Poland.

We should know this well, all these have strong farmer lobby groups.
When farmers set your trade policy.

I do wonder if France also is a bit mixed due to farmer concern about Ukraine eventually in EU.
Bingo, France, Farmers, LePen and Google delivers a list like.
https://www.politico.eu/article/french-farmers-flock-to-marine-le-pen-hope-for-the-best-agricultural-policy/

Poland has elections coming up, so you have to deal with that.

Russia knows all about working elections playing both UltraLeft, UltraRight, directionless discontented etc.
Positions up for grabs on future gas, fuel supply boards, once things are normalized for the avaricious.
The old KGB hands know opportunity for their craft when they see it.

Anyways we took Australia to World Trade Court over Apples, they send us 501's and we are still friends ?
We lost out on the Māori word Manuka for some reason.

Poland has some interesting things going on with EU as well, and there was the funny stuff with charges on German Tank repairs.
Suppose it will be quite lumpy until election seasons are over.

Putin, has a large hope chest, maybe time delivers him an election, or a phone call from an old friend etc.

Great line: "you can tell these Russian tanks fake inflatables because they still have their turrets"

Russia Deploys Realistic Inflatable Decoy T-72 Tanks in Donetsk -- With Some Telltale Flaws

Suchomimus

A Ukrainian drone in Donetsk spots a group of Russian inflatable T-72 tanks. The tanks look pretty good at first glance, and would likely fool cheaper spotter drones. There are some telltale signs that give them away.

From Wikipedia: "Tor, short for The Onion Router,is free and open-source software for enabling anonymous communication. It directs Internet traffic via a free, worldwide, volunteer overlay network that consists of more than seven thousand relays.

Using Tor makes it more difficult to trace a user's Internet activity. Tor protects personal privacy by concealing a user's location and usage from anyone performing network surveillance or traffic analysis. It protects the user's freedom and ability to communicate confidentially through IP address anonymity using Tor exit nodes."

How Russia is trying to block Tor

DEFCONConference 2021

In 2022, some ISPs in Russia started blocking the Tor Network to try to make it harder for people in Russia . Some months later, there's a steady-state where Russia trying to find new IP addresses to block and Tor network is rotating IP addresses to keep up.

Here's what steps the Russian censors have taken. Then the arms race goes from here, what new techniques the anti-censorship world needs if we're going to stay ahead of future attacks, and what it means for the world that more and more countries are turning to network-level blocking as the solution to their political problems.

US shutdown averted with a stop gap.

It does not include any funding for Ukraine so not  sure the implications of this.

When did the US Republican party get so pro-Russian?

Putting aside "better dead than red", they compete directly with the US as on oil producer. I thought Republicans loved protecting big oil.

United States --- 21%
Saudi Arabia -- 13%
Russia --- 10%

A lot of money flowed from Russia to various PACs etc which funded Republican candidates. The NRA for instance was found to be acting as one such middle man.

I'd like people to post evidence to their claims - the same request I made in the 2023 Elections thread.

I will help here but in the future, clams without supporting evidence will be challenged or removed.

NRA finally admits taking money from 23 Russian-linked sources (americanindependent.com)

I think most of the time Republican policy is determined by being contrary—find out what the Democrats support, then support the opposite out of sheer bloody-mindedness.

Problem is the temporary funding bill excludes Ukraine funding.
Gives Putin something for his hope chest that by holding out he will get what he wants.
Slows down any concessions Putin might give for peace, because he will see waiting gets him more, maybe everything.

Its not that Ukraine spending would not pass a vote, it would, but McCarthy is to scared to put the bill forward.

The linked article says US$2500. That's hardly much compared to the budget of the NRA. Are you aware of larger amounts or allegations to that effect?

Yeah but that's like, the total annual Russian military budget in rubles...

The Moscow Times: Russians Pay Final Tribute to Prigozhin 40 Days After Mercenary Chief's Death
...
“He was a true hero who wasn't afraid to tell the truth about existing problems,” he continued, referring to Prigozhin's vocal criticism of the Defense Ministry's handling of the war effort.

“Now, there is no such person anymore.”
...
This opacity has given rise to the theory that Prigozhin’s death was orchestrated by Russia’s top leadership, who saw the onetime Kremlin ally as a traitor following his aborted armed uprising against the Russian military’s top brass in June.

“It’s the government who did it, I am 100% sure,” said Andrei, 57, a Wagner supporter who came to pay tribute at Prigozhin’s grave.
...
Many of Prigozhin’s supporters expressed hopes that his death was staged and that he and the other Wagner leaders are still alive.

“Prigozhin and Utkin wouldn't fly together on the same flight,” said Anna, 35, who came to the graveyard with her young son. “We don’t want to believe they are dead.”

“We didn’t see his body, nor is there any proof that he boarded that plane,” agreed Alexander Kolos, a local entrepreneur and Wagner supporter.

The Moscow Times previously reported, citing Russian officials, that the Kremlin was concerned by Prigozhin’s growing popularity following the mutiny, prompting authorities to keep his funeral a secret from the public.
