freitasm:

At her sentencing hearing Wednesday, Howell said that she had been told by GOP officials that she would be rewarded for her dedication to keeping Trump in office.

She has been rewarded, but unfortunately only with a misdemeanor conviction. It's a permanent mark which will make some things more difficult for her, but not as bad as a felony conviction would have. Even in red states, which she's bound to be from, she can still vote, for example.

Oh no! Anyway.

Annie Howell Sentenced to 60 Days in Jail for Jan. 6 (lawandcrime.com)

A Pennsylvania woman convicted of breaching a “sensitive space” of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 told a sentencing judge on Wednesday that people close to former President Donald Trump “promised” her a White House job. Instead, she received a jail sentence that she fears could lose her custody of her kid.

....... etc

At her sentencing hearing Wednesday, Howell said that she had been told by GOP officials that she would be rewarded for her dedication to keeping Trump in office.

If the conviction is a Federal Conviction, my understanding is she can no longer apply for a Federal job - I could be wrong here though.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

kingdragonfly: No word on what "Trump advisor" promised her a job.

I'd guess she's probably already started writing a book about it.

Plenty of time in prison for that.

She's only in  for 60 days. It'll take her that long to earn a typewriter.

The Washington Post - Opinion: Donald Trump looks increasingly like a stray orange hair to be flicked off the nation’s sleeve

today  (extracts)

Floundering in his attempts to wield political power while lacking a political office, Donald Trump looks increasingly like a stray orange hair to be flicked off the nation’s sleeve.

His residual power, which he must use or lose, is to influence his party’s selection of candidates for state and federal offices.

This is, however, perilous because he has the power of influence only if he is perceived to have it. ...

A European war is unhelpful for Trump because it reminds voters that Longfellow was right: Life is real, life is earnest. ...

Trump’s strut through presidential politics was made possible by an American reverie; war in Europe has reminded people that politics is serious. ...

For Trump, a suppurating wound on American life, and for those who share his curdled venom, war is a hellacious distraction from their self-absorption.

Fortunately, their ability to be major distractions is waning.

(my bold - good stuff!)  😶

At least some Republicans have morals and ethics - also I see he says it's a waste of time talking about the election Trump lost, for the umpteenth time.

Odd reasoning from a Trump appointed judge and member of the federalist society allows Madison Cawthorn to run for office. Judge says legislation removed the 14th amendment insurrection bar for all future insurrections. Appeal is likely.

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/03/04/politics/madison-cawthorn-north-carolina/index.html

It will be a tricky one if appealed. It's not a good idea to have state boards randomly deciding any candidate is an insurrectionist. Candidates like AOC etc no doubt meet the fox news talkshow republican criteria for insurrectionist on any given issue.

Pence could be shaping up as a Republican presidential candidate:

The Hill: There is no room in this party for apologists for Putin. There is only room for champions of freedom," Pence will tell a gathering of Republican National Committee (RNC) donors, according to excerpts shared with The Hill

Uh, no. Pence was put next to Trump because he's a human no-op, someone who's never going to be a threat to the Dear Leader. That's his only role.

Even no-ops have a function. They take up space and they waste time.

Trump continues to be a disgrace and pander to deplorable. Trump muses about illegally bombing Russia using Chinese flags - The Washington Post

At a speech in New Orleans on Saturday night, Trump mused that we could simply apply Chinese flags to our F-22s and then “bomb the s--t out of Russia,” setting off a conflict between those two countries.

“And then we say, China did it, we didn’t do it, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch,” Trump said, according to a recording obtained by The Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey.

How much of the American public are left that actually still like him, and everything he stands for?
Most presidents kinda fade away after leaving office. Trump would never do anything like that as he thrives on the attention - but is his base as big as it was in, say, 2016? Or 2020?

Edit: I meant, I wonder what the percentage of the population is?

The same type deranged people that in New Zealand supported the whole "I am sick with covid symptoms but it's the government rays killing me, so I will wear a tinfoil hat" and the same US deplorables that support Putin by saying "he's actually going into Ukraine to destroy some New World Order chemical factories" or whatever they say now.

In other words, stupid people. And there are lots of them.

I think a better summary would be "Trump continues to live in his own personal fantasy world". That's the sort of plan my neighbour's six-year-old grandson would come up with.

Seriously.

OK, there would probably be dinosaurs in there somewhere, but the rest is pure six-year-old.

Note, the Trump interview video was pulled from Youtube, because it violated Youtube's community guidelines :)

CNN: Donald Trump was asked about the future of Ukraine. He started talking about windmills

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump sat down with the "Full Send" podcast for nearly an hour.

Why? Who knows! (It does have more than 1 million YouTube subscribers and the likes of Donald Trump Jr. and MAGA favorite Candace Owens have appeared on it.) During that conversation, the topic of Ukraine -- and Russia's invasion -- came up. Which led to this exchange between host Kyle Forgeard and the 45th president:

Host (dumb)

"What do you see happening next then? 'Cause it seems like the tensions are high. How does this all end? Is this going to be like a long-term thing? How do you see it unfolding?

Trump (and dumber)

"Well, and I said this a long time ago, if this happens, we are playing right into their hands. Green energy. The windmills. They don't work. They're too expensive. They kill all the birds. They ruin your landscapes. And yet the environmentalists love the windmills. And I've been preaching this for years. The windmills. And I had them way down. But the windmills are the most expensive energy you can have. And they don't work. And by the way, they last a period of 10 years and by the time they start rusting and rotting all over the place, nobody ever takes them down. They just go on to the next piece of prairie or land and destroy that."
