What I find quite depressing is a fairly sizeable chunk of the American voting population have absolutely no problem with his language, believe (because he said so) the election was stolen from him, and why the hell isn't he their president anymore? He's (somehow) the best thing that ever happened to their country. Never mind Lincoln, Washington, Kennedy, oh no, Trump is the man. Because? He said so.

We shouldn't be too hasty in blaming Donald for what comes out of his mouth.

It's a little-known fact that his digestive system works in reverse.

What's even more sad is a number of the voting population - despite America really going downhill while Trump was in charge - would fall over themselves to vote for him again and want him to be their president again. But are they really better off than when before he took office? Did he really "make America great again"? Because if he did, I sure as hell ain't seein' it.

quickymart:  Did he really "make America great again"? Because if he did, I sure as hell ain't seein' it.

That's certainly the question about Trump's self-proclaimed superiority. What did he do to make America a better place for its citizens?

Let's have a poll\quiz about the pluses and minuses of Trump's short reign.

Copy my answers and add your own, so that the totals accumulate with each post:

America is greater because:

1) Can't think of any right now...

America is NOT greater because:

1) Trump turned lying into an acceptable form of communication.

Not all Trump voters were/are deplorables. Good people also voted for him for bad reasons. For those who are deplorables, they like him because he mirrors what they think they would be if they had his resources. He talks and behaves like every other vulgar, low-class, ignorant, prejudiced, self-righteous fundamentalist hypocrite who thinks he has been unfairly treated by life. If Trump lost his money and privilege, he would be your next-door neighbour in the down and out redneck trailer park.

In 2020, Donald "no one knows more about missiles than me" Trump said of Musk: "“He’s also doing the rockets, he likes rockets. He does good at the rockets, too, by the way.”

The Guardian: Elon Musk pledges to overturn Twitter’s ban on Donald Trump

Elon Musk has said he will reverse Twitter’s ban on the former US president Donald Trump if the Tesla boss completes a takeover of the social media platform.

Twitter permanently banned Trump in January 2021, citing repeated violations of company rules and its judgment that his tweets were “highly likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place at the US Capitol on 6 January 2021”, referring to the attack on the building by his supporters.

Musk, the world’s richest man because of his stake in the electric car company Tesla, revealed his initial stake in New York-listed Twitter on 4 April, and agreed to a $44bn (£36bn) deal on 25 April after several weeks of rapid negotiations.

“I would reverse the permanent ban,.. I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump,” he said. “I think that was a mistake. It alienated the country and did not result in Donald Trump not having a voice.

So? Doesn't America already have enough narcissistic, entitled, bigoted loudmouths as it is? How many do you need in one country?

Also...found this tonight. Laid out a bit like Wikipedia, but makes following the current elections in America this year (Governor, senate, etc) really easy:

The menu bar down the left hand side is really useful.

The Sydney Morning Herald -  Trump must pay $144,000, meet conditions to end contempt finding, judge says

today

New York: A New York judge has stopped the clock on Donald Trump’s $US10,000-a-day fine for failing to turn over documents in a state civil investigation and said he’ll lift the former president’s contempt finding altogether if he meets certain conditions, including paying $US144,000 in fines he’s racked up so far.

Judge Arthur Engoron said on Thursday (AEST) he will conditionally lift Trump’s contempt finding if, by May 20, Trump submits additional affidavits detailing efforts to search for the subpoenaed records and explaining his and his company’s document retention policies; a company he hired to aid the search completes its work; and he pays the fines.

Engoron found Trump in contempt on April 25 and fined him $US10,000 per day for not complying with a subpoena for documents in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation into his business practices ...

As a baby, Trump was scared by a pinwheel :)

Rolling Stone: Trump Kept Asking if China Was Shooting Us With a ‘Hurricane Gun’

Near the beginning of Donald Trump’s time in office, the then-president had a pressing question for his national-security aides and administration officials: Does China have the secret technology — a weapon, even — to create large, man-made hurricanes and then launch them at the United States? And if so, would this constitute an act of war by a foreign power, and could the U.S. retaliate militarily? Then-President Trump repeatedly asked about this, according to two former senior administration officials and a third person briefed on the matter.

“It was almost too stupid for words,” said a former Trump official intimately familiar with the then-sitting president’s inquiry. “I did not get the sense he was joking at all.”

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations, tell Rolling Stone that Trump began interrogating national-security officials and other staffers about the alleged weapon during the first year of his presidency, and his question would pop up sporadically until at least 2018. Two of the sources recalled that as Trump got deeper into the second year in his term, he started to drop the topic, and occasionally joked about it.

In certain circles within the upper ranks of Trumpland, the then-leader of the free world’s query became such a mockable occurrence that it became known among some as the “Hurricane Gun” thing.

“I was present [once] when he asked if China ‘made’ hurricanes to send to us,” said the other former senior official. Trump “wanted to know if the technology existed. One guy in the room responded, ‘Not to the best of my knowledge, sir.’ I kept it together until I got back to my office… I do not know where the [then-]president would have heard about that… He was asking about it around the time, maybe a little before, he asked people about nuking hurricanes.”
