Stuff: "In any future agreement, Israel must have security control over the entire territory from the sea to the Jordan River," Netanyahu said Thursday. "This is a necessary condition, and it clashes with the ideas of sovereignty" for the Palestinians.

What an amazing coincidence - that is the same phrase used in Netanyahu's Likud Party manifesto when the party was formed in 1977:

Likud Party Manifesto 1977: "between the Sea and the Jordan [River] there will only be Israeli sovereignty"

Failure of successive governments to respect established and legally documented Palestinian property rights and maintenance of traditional water access rights for agriculture is one of the key contributors to alienation and conflict.

Not dissimilar to another high profile conflict. About one person's desire instead of human rights and legality.

SJB: Lets hope this is the beginning of the end for Netanyahu.

Eisenkot: Key Israeli war leader challenges Netanyahu over Gaza strategy - BBC News

It looks like it is:

BBC: [Eisenkot] also said Mr Netanyahu shared "sharp and clear responsibility" for failing to protect his country on 7 October and urged fresh elections, saying there was "no trust" in Israel's current leadership.

Netanyahu cannot be allowed to continue his cycle of radical coalitions with his crazy aligned right engaging in constant religious and territorial provocations and then using the inevitable extremist response as an excuse to attack Israeli Palestinians near radical settlements and continue the cycle of alienation.

Poll finds Netanyahu and his party will be out of government if a vote is held tomorrow:

Times Of Israel: If elections were held today, some three and a half months into the war against Hamas in Gaza, Minister Benny Gantz’s National Unity would be the largest party in the Knesset with 37 seats, up from its current 12, according to a poll published Sunday.

The poll finds Netanyahu's Likud party will get 16 seats if he continues to lead it. It will get 21 seats if it dumps him as leader.

Just maybe one or more of the more moderate coalition parties will jump ship to join with the National Unity party. At 37 seats that's well short of the majority needed of 61.

Israel has to get rid of Netanyahu or they will be fighting the various Islamist groups forever.

That is correct. But, that is just one party. No single party in Israel has a simple majority for a while. Ie; All coalition governments.

The poll also shows the opposition more or less the previous governing coalition which includes Bennett of National Unity would get 69 seats if an election was held today. A very healthy majority.

In a few hours the International Court of Justice will issue a ruling on South Africa's request for an injunction requiring the Government of Israel to:

South African Government: immediately cease its military operations in Gaza, take reasonable measures to prevent the genocide of Palestinians, ensure that the displaced return to their homes and have access to humanitarian assistance, including adequate food, water, fuel, medical and hygiene supplies, shelter and clothing, take necessary steps to punish those involved in the genocide and preserve the evidence of genocide.

The Government of Israel's lawyer at the initial hearing claimed of statements made by members of the Government of Israel: "Some of the comments that South Africa have shown us are clearly rhetorical,". Given the dictionary definition of rhetoric is persuasive speech intended to inspire people to act this seems like a bad defense. It could be the government of Israel is saving its guns for the trial itself.

Netanyahu has already indicated he will ignore any injunction.

This is not a good look but maybe not all that surprising.

In response to 3 American soldiers killed in a drone attack in Jordan.

Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas said that "the only answer to these attacks must be devastating military retaliation against Iran's terrorist forces, both in Iran and across the Middle East".

And how has that sort of response worked out for you in the past?

Israel is alleging that 12 UNWRA employees took part in one way or another in the Hamas attack but as there are 13,000 UNWRA employees in Gaza I'm surprised it's not more. It is unacceptable but so is punishing 2.5 million people for the transgressions of a dozen.

It certainly suits Israels apparent objective of making the Gaza Strip uninhabitable to stop humanitarian aid, especially the wackos in Netanyahu's cabinet.

Those pesky terrorists hide everywhere don't they.

At least half of Gaza's buildings damaged or destroyed, new analysis shows - BBC News

And from the same article it appears the IDF are doing exactly what they said they would do before most of this happened.

In a video posted online on 4 November, Col Yogev Bar-Shesht, deputy head of the Civil Administration, said in an interview from inside Gaza: "Whoever returns here, if they return here after, will find scorched earth. No houses, no agriculture, no nothing. They have no future."

BBC: Biden says he has decided US response to Jordan attack

President Joe Biden says he has decided how the US will respond to a drone strike that killed three American troops in Jordan at the weekend.

Mr Biden did not elaborate in his remarks at the White House, but added: "I don't think we need a wider war in the Middle East."

An Iran-backed militia group has claimed responsibility for the attack at a US military base.

Dozens more were injured in Sunday's strike near the Syrian border.

What options does US have to respond to Jordan attack?
The overnight drone attack was the first time US soldiers were killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the Israel Gaza war erupted on 7 October.

Asked by reporters on Tuesday morning if he had decided how to respond to the attack, Mr Biden said: "Yes."

He was also asked if Iran should be blamed. "I do hold them [Iran] responsible in the sense that they're supplying the weapons to the people who did it," he said.

Iran has denied any involvement.
...

Al Jazeera: Opinion: Jordan drone strike: Is the US being pulled into another Mid East war?

On Sunday, January 28, The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group that includes the militias Kataib Hezbollah and Harakat al-Nujaba among others, claimed responsibility for a drone attack that killed three US military personnel and injured 34 others in a base in northeastern Jordan, near the Syria border.

In the media coverage of the attack, it was repeatedly mentioned that these militias have launched 165 attacks on US troops – 66 in Iraq and 98 in Syria – since October 2023. While it helps put the attack in context, this is a misleading figure. This conflict began much earlier than last October, and thus the total number of attacks the US has faced from these militias is actually much higher.

Indeed, Sunday’s drone attack was just the latest episode in an undeclared war between the United States and Iran-affiliated Iraqi Shia militias that has been raging across the region for more than five years.

Trump (◔_◔)

“This attack would NEVER have happened if I was President, not even a chance.

Just like
  • the Iranian-backed Hamas attack on Israel would never have happened,
  • the War in Ukraine would never have happened,
  • and we would right now have Peace throughout the World.
Instead, we are on the brink of World War 3.”
