gzt:  With the marines arriving in the gulf next week I'm guessing Trump will have another go at a market calming victory declaration around landing time.

Where will they go and what will they be able to achieve?

Why the U.S. is sending 2,500 marines to the Gulf — and what they might do there

Latest "happiest country" list is out. I can't believe Israel is in the top 10!

That gives Trump 256 days to sort Iran, before the mid-terms.

'Cause there's nothing like dignified transfers, flag-draped coffines removed aircraft at Dover Air Force Base, to remind voters who did what.

I don't wish to see anyone put in harm's way. But here's some historically facts about Iran.

Iran’s mountainous plateau is defensible and naturally cohesive. Of course this predates modern warfare, but with "boots on the ground" I can't imagine a worse battleground.

Over 2,500 Iran/Persia broadly has had large, centralized states; strong cultural continuity. Iran was often an empire.

Not saying they have good government; just mostly stable given the region.

Compared to Israel/Palestine, which has had repeated conquest, fragmented rule, intense geopolitical competition. The Levant was often a frontier.

I suppose Trumps dirty tricks team has been checking with Billionaires and odd Trillionaire.
If conflict can be kept going until midterms and Trump can say SMO = no elections ?

Pending an early total victory and Trump can ride on the fickle American voter bathing in victory.

Otherwise it just keeps going until said victory when elections can be held.

Iran will want to extract revenge, so I can't see them up for early deal that just lets Trump shuffle slowly off with no consequence.
Probably feeling they have the cards with Hormuz.

Iran's South Pars field attacked by Israel - provides 80% of Iran's domestic gas:

https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2026/3/19/why-are-irans-south-pars-gasfield-qatars-ras-laffan-so-significant

It's pretty obvious that is intended to impact normal life in the country.

That is surprising. Perhaps the most unhappy people are leaving:

In a world of logic and reason, but this is Trumpworld.

SMO's go by different rules as Putin demonstrates with Geneva Convention violations etc.

You make up SMO rules to suit you.
Like the song 'There's no business like SMO business'

China was big on fertilizer exports.
""
China is clamping down on fertilizer exports to protect its domestic market, a number of industry sources have told Reuters, putting an additional strain on global markets that were already grappling with shortages caused by the US-Israeli war on Iran.

China is among the largest fertilizer exporters, shipping more than $13bn worth of it last year, and it has a history of controlling exports to keep prices low for farmers.

In Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar", Cassius admits he now believes in omens because the signs around him are too dire to ignore

Ravens and crows fly overhead “as if we were sickly prey,” and shadows lie “most fatal” over the army.

Back in modern times, "stagflation" is an economic condition combining slow growth (stagnation), high unemployment, and high inflation.

It represents a "nightmare scenario" for policymakers, as actions to fight inflation like raising interest rates can worsen unemployment, and vice versa.

Gold usually rises when investors are scared. Copper usually falls when growth slows. If both fall, it suggests something deeper: Investors fear an economic slowdown caused by an oil shock, but inflation is still high.

Copper joins gold in broad commodities sell-off. There’s a worrying reason behind it: CNBC

Both precious and industrial metals fell in Thursday trading as investors are starting to worry this oil shock will go on long enough to cause an economic slowdown or recession.

An unusual stagflation scenario is occurring with rates rising on inflation fears, while economic growth expectations are being lowered.

IRGC spokesperson says Iran is continuing to build missiles - contradicting Netanyahu's big success press conference earlier today:

https://aje.news/gt5gwr?update=4418858

The IRGC spokesperson was killed in a missile strike a short time later. There is no doubt that Iran is keeping up a regular stream of missiles towards Israel. That has not changed.

Handle9:

The biggest problem with getting this whole mess to de-escalate is Israel. Trump complained that the didn’t tell the US about the South Pars attack which fits with them doing whatever the hell they like while the US follows. They are a much bigger threat to stability in the region than Iran but they carry on with zero consequences.

You really hit the nail on the head here. The Zionists/Israelis have been a major irritation n this area one way or another since 1949.

Note that no publicly available, reputable sources indicate that any child of a current U.S. Cabinet Secretary or Senior White House staff member is serving in the military.

From Truth social:

"Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk. COWARDS!”

[Satire, page 2]

"By executive order, to show what cowards NATO is, on every ship going through the Strait of Hormuz, there will be an observer from the pool of children of White House Cabinet/Senior White House Staff.

The following children of these officials will report to US Naval port Bandar-e-Jask, located in the Gulf of Oman, under penalty of jail time in Alligator Alcatraz (convenient for parents already visiting Mar-Largo).

These Cabinet members have publicly stated they have children:

My own dear child
Peter Hegseth, U.S. Secretary of Defense
J.D. Vance, Vice President
Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State
Howard Lutnick, U.S. Secretary of Commerce
Douglas Collins, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs
Kristi Noem, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security
Scott Bessent, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury
Pamela Bondi, U.S. Attorney General
Douglas Burgum, U.S. Secretary of the Interior
Lori Chavez-DeRemer, U.S. Secretary of Labor
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services
Linda McMahon, U.S. Secretary of Education
Sean Duffy, U.S. Secretary of Transportation

All of the above have publicly acknowledged children in interviews, congressional bios, or official profiles.

The relaxed excursions, with salt air, sun and safety through Strait of Hormuz will do all children a world of good."

ChatGPT AI, in my opinion, is slightly biased toward pro-American views, and tends to spin controversial stories in a softer, more US friendly way that other AI's.

To give Trump the best chance, the most positive spin, here's what ChatGPT says about Trump's Truth post.

“NATO could easily open the Strait of Hormuz”

Assessment: misleading / incorrect on multiple points

Any “opening” operation would require direct military confrontation with Iran, risk major regional escalation or war

This is not a “simple maneuver” and carries significant risk, including attacks on shipping, missiles, and mines.

Claim is false.

“Very little danger” in military action there

This is factually incorrect.

The region has Iranian anti-ship missiles, fast attack craft, naval mines, drone and proxy capabilities

The U.S. Navy treats the area as high-risk.

Claim is false.

Iran has no cards ?

So USA allows Iranian tankers to pass freely throughout this war.
Now its sanctions taken off so not just China and India can buy Iranian LNG and Oil, everyone can.

Do they sell refined diesel, maybe we can trade some sheep with no tariffs?

Lyndsay Graham thinks he just needs to put 'No Boots on the Ground' on Karg island.
90% of Iran's oil exports apparently.

Not really heard of 'if I can't have it you can't have it' has he.
Plus there is still the strait.

Marines strolling through fields of full highly flammable fuel tanks, surely Iran would not?

Never happened before.

Second load of Marines, their ship just leaving USA , so 3 weeks more to arrive?
Expecting a fast exit?

In my opinion, the Levant/the Eastern Mediterranean has been f____ed even before Christ's arrival.

But saying "The Zionists/Israelis have been a major irritation in this area one way or another since 1949" is reductionist

It's similar to the oversimplification "The Sunnis/Shias have been a major irritation in this area one way or another since 632."

Both slip into sectarian generalization, even if that’s not your intention.

I have no problem with blaming leadership such as Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump, Pete Hegseth, Israel Katz ...

But broad statements about entire peoples start sounding like dog whistles, and they don’t help us understand what’s actually going on.

I'd suggest blaming the true culprits: choices of governments, parties, and leaders, not whole peoples.
