The NY Times - Judge Orders Redacted Affidavit Used in Trump Search Warrant to Be Unsealed

breaking

WASHINGTON - A federal judge on Thursday ordered that a redacted version of the affidavit used to obtain a warrant for former President Donald J. Trump’s Florida residence be unsealed by noon on Friday - paving the way for the disclosure of potentially revelatory details about a search with enormous legal and political implications.

The decision by Judge Bruce E. Reinhart came just hours after the Justice Department submitted its proposal for extensive redactions to the document, in an effort to shield witnesses from intimidation or retribution if it is made public ...

The ruling is a significant legal milepost in an investigation that has swiftly emerged as a major threat to Mr. Trump, whose lawyers have offered a confused and at times stumbling response.

Sorry I haven't been following this properly - in short, is this good or bad for Trump's cause?

Trump asked to release the search warrant.

Most think it was a face-slap moment for any lawyer still trying to keep him out of jail

...or if you want to be kind, Trump trying to get ahead of using very damning information

This is what I think

According to a Fox Business report, the company is in a "bitter battle" with its web host RightForge, with a bill of around US$1.6 million (NZ$2.6m) unpaid.

Maybe they should just cut them off?
Christ, does he ever pay any bills, ever? Doesn't pay his lawyer, doesn't pay his web host...how does he get away with it?

Also - one of the top people at BMW is quite concerned about Trump winning again in 2024 and is doing his best to prevent it from happening: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/billionaire-bmw-heir-urges-europe-153715457.html

For people who don't get the reference, Trump threw rolls of toilet paper into a crowd in Puerto Rico.

kingdragonfly: Infamous Mar-a-Lago portrait

Reminds me of this David Low (I think) cartoon, although since Trump is a narcissist he doesn't need the second person that this other politician needed:

The Washington Post - Takeaways from the redacted affidavit used for the Mar-a-Lago search

breaking

1. 184 classified documents, including some top secret, were once at Mar-a-Lago

2. The Justice Department is suspicious of obstruction by Trump or his allies

3. It’s possible Trump allies were talking to the FBI about all this

4. What’s missing ? *

5. We still don’t know why Trump wanted these documents

6. The full affidavit is a road map to potential prosecution

* Of the 38 pages in the affidavit, nearly half are entirely or mostly redacted.  This will act as a Rorschach test for Trump supporters and opponents - they will simply see what they want to see in the blacked-out spaces.

The Guardian - The FBI’s Mar-a-Lago affidavit paints an unsettling portrait of Trump

today

The final paragraph ...

Earlier this week, Jared Kushner scrambled to distance himself from Ivanka’s dad.

Asked by Fox News about Trump’s handling of classified material, Kushner demurred. “Like I said, I’m not familiar with what was in the boxes,” he answered. “But I think President Trump, he, uh, he governed in a very peculiar way and when he had his documents, I’m assuming he did what he thought was appropriate.”

And if Trump can’t count on his son-in-law to deliver something other than a potpourri of word salad, who can he trust?

President Biden announced student loan forgiveness for Pell student loans. Pell loans are only given to extremely low income students. Conservatives, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, have been losing their minds, though they have had their own COVID related government loans forgiven.

Despite being a loan for low income students, Pell loan payments can take decades, with the first years only covering interest. While a low income worker may ask for a payment vacation, interest continues to accumulate.

CNS News : White House calls out Republicans who criticized student loan cancellation but had thousands in PPP loans forgiven

The White House is not taking criticism of the decision to forgive student debt lying down. After some Republican lawmakers tweeted or went on broadcasts to condemn the decision, the White House Twitter page responded by quote tweeting their comments – and sharing just how much each of them benefited from having their COVID reflief "PPP" Paycheck Protection Program loans forgiven.

The uncharacteristic Twitter thread from the White House came shortly after President Biden announced his plan to erase thousands of dollars in student loans, a move that will help more than 40 million people who have a combined $1.7 trillion in student loan debt. Under the plan, borrowers who earn less than $125,000 will be eligible to have $10,000 in student loan debt forgiven. Those in that income range who had Pell Grants in college will be eligible for an additional $10,000 in forgiveness.

It was a decision that triggered criticism from GOP lawmakers, and even a few Democrats.

[Notorious] GOP Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene went on NewsMax to talk about Mr. Biden's plans, and said that forgiving student loans isn't fair for those who didn't go to college.

"For our government just to say, 'OK, well your debt is completely forgiven'...it's completely unfair," she said, according to a clip of the broadcast that was shared by the White House. "And taxpayers all over the country, taxpayers that never took out a student loan, taxpayers that pay their bills and maybe even never went to college and are just hardworking people, they shouldn't have to pay off the great big student loan debt for some college student that piled up massive debt going to some Ivy League school. That's not fair."

The White house tread posted "Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had $183,504 in [COVID] PPP loans
forgiven."
...

IndyStar: Republican Greg Pence criticizes student loan plan after having nearly $80K PPP loan forgiven

U.S. Representative Greg Pence was among those Republican members of Congress who have criticized President Joe Biden's decision to wave $10,000 in student loan debt for millions of borrowers, despite his ties to a company that had thousands of dollars worth of federal loans forgiven itself.

...The government forgave $80,180 worth of loans and accrued interest for Pence Group, LLC....
