MSNBC: Key Republican congressman fears student debt relief will undercut military recruiting

In the wake of President Joe Biden unveiling his new policy on student loan debt relief, there’s been plenty of policy responses, ranging from glowing praise to condemnations....

Take Republican Rep. Jim Banks, for example, who published this message yesterday:

“Student loan forgiveness undermines one of our military’s greatest recruitment tools at a time of dangerously low enlistments.”

Once in a while, I’m surprised by what prominent Republicans are willing to put in writing. This is one of those times.

To be sure, concerns about military enlistments are legitimate. Politico recently published a report on the issue, noting that there’s bipartisan pressure on the Pentagon to address “what is widely considered the worst recruiting environment since the end of the Vietnam War.”

But for the Indiana congressman to connect student loan forgiveness to enlistments is deeply problematic.

In practical terms, Banks effectively seemed to argue that leaving millions of young adults under a mountain of debt would be a good thing, since they may turn to the military in desperation.

Here's a fun fact: Trump used to have Hells Angels at the ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ after parties but they found Trump too sleazy and eventually just wanted to get their money and leave.

Fortunately, as depicted below, Manfred von Richthofen, "The Red Baron", and the "Battlestar Galatica" fighters do support Trump

I also puzzled over this until the truth suddenly hit me. Applying the principle of Occam's Razor, it is glaringly obvious that the Republican party has been taken over by lizard people. The statements of prominent Republicans are precisely what lizard people would say. The policies are lizard policies. The behaviour is lizards  behaviour.  Just look at the antics of Republicans like Josh Hawley and Marjorie Taylor-Greene. Pure lizard. Or Matt Gaetz. Exactly what a horny lizard would do. Forced childbirth? More lizard food. They Live!

Trump's "Truth" platform; was always going to be as successful as Trump's other business ventures. Perhaps the liquidators can get some money for the office equipment he didn't rent.

CBS News: Trump's Truth Social trademark rejected because name isn't unique

A U.S. government agency has rejected a trademark application by Donald Trump's Truth Social because the social network's name isn't unique enough.

In a filing from August 2, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said Truth Social's name is too similar to other businesses, which could cause consumers to be "confused, mistaken or deceived as to the commercial source of the goods and/or services of the parties."

The trademark snafu is another stumbling block for the fledgling social media service, whose parent company has drawn regulatory scrutiny and recently warned that its success could be impacted by a decline in Trump's popularity or via "further controversies that damage his credibility."

Re the demise of Trthu (my keyboard just wouldn't type the word) AntiSocial, any problems it has will be someone else's fault. The blame list would be a long one and would have the FBI added now.

Trump's bad defenses and bad lawyering

LegalEagle

Being sarcastic, "Don't freak out about Trump's classified documents, because when the President does it, it's not a crime ...

Or the FBI planted the documents,

Or Trump declassified all of the documents. He just didn't tell anyone.

Like so much spaghetti, the Trump world is throwing all kinds of defenses against the wall, but do any of them stick?

So, today, we're gonna talk about the various, completely coherent, and not at all mutually exclusive defenses that former President Trump is asserting"

He didn't get to the unsealed affidavit

Top secret documents scattered widely, including in boxes in public walkway to pool, unsecured basement rooms, and "office 45"

Politico: What a photo of Trump’s "45 office" reveals about how he wants to be remembered

includes a sharpie pen plus reading glasses

a large knife (easy clean, when removing from friend's backs)

a statute of himself

"Challenge coin rack": "Challenge coins are coins often given to a recipient by a part or branch of the military, and they represent that division of the military. As president, Trump, who frequently extolled his buildup of the military, received numerous challenge coins."

Not sure if one featuring his foot's "bone spurs" which got him excluded from military draft

You can also buy them by the truckload on eBay, for as little as a dollar or two, anything you want.
