Jackson water system is failing, city will be with no or little drinking water indefinitely

At a press conference Monday night, Gov. Tate Reeves said the city’s largest water treatment plants may be completely down.

“Until it is fixed, it means we do not have reliable running water at scale,” Reeves said. “It means the city cannot produce enough water to fight fires, to reliably flush toilets, and to meet other critical needs.”

Well how can you expect him to keep the water safe when he's busy filing lawsuits to have the 2020 election results overthrown, undermining Covid precautions, trying to kill Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act), figuring out how to prevent black/hispanic people from voting, and pledging his undying loyalty to the Dear Leader? He's working flat-out on all the things that matter, there's no time for anything else.

I have been watching on MSNBC an interview with one of the Mueller investigators. He points out that by requesting a Special Master, Trump has shot a cannonball-size hole through his foot. It is this demand, and nothing else, that has made it possible for the DOJ to publicly present dramatic overwhelming evidence that Trump is without any possible doubt a liar, thief, fraud, hypocrite, and criminal. The stunning photos showing top secret documents scattered around the floor are only a small part of this. Regardless of what happens in court, and I do now believe Trump will be charged and most likely convicted, it has become utterly impossible to mount any kind of rational defence of Trump’s actions. He has been well and truly caught with his hand in the cookie jar and there is no way to spin around that. His cult will go down with him desperately trying to explain the obvious away, but few others will stick with him after this. In true Trump fashion, his is the agent of his own demise. Shakespeare could make a hell of a play about this.

I dunno, his MAGA crowd can be pretty rabid if something winds them up, and I can see a good proportion of them hanging on to the "wah wah wah! This is all a witch hunt!" line he's been spinning since the FBI visited him. Remember he's constantly got to play the poor, hard-done-by victim, and (for some reason) his minions seem to lap it up.

Don't forget if any of them wind up on the jury they will steadfastly cling to not guilty even in the face of overwhelming evidence. Leading to at best a hung jury. Of course if they manage to keep the hard line cultists out then that will be seen as evidence of the courts being stacked against him and therefore not legitimate.

Best we can hope is a felony conviction, without jail time, and no terrorist attacks / mass killing attempt on various justice agencies.

No one will have the balls to throw him in jail, even for a few days.

Once he's a convicted felon, perhaps he and his family will see prison time.

Unfortunately I doubt he will ever see the inside of a cell. He will die of old age while the case or cases against him are tied up in court.

LINDSEY GRAHAM WARNS BIDEN’S PRO-DEMOCRACY RHETORIC COULD LEAD TO VOTING IN THE STREETS

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Blasting Joe Biden’s plan to give a prime-time speech on Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham warned that the President’s “incendiary pro-democracy rhetoric” could lead to “voting in the streets.”

“President Biden needs to watch his words very, very carefully,” the senator from South Carolina said. “People are on edge right now. Say the wrong thing, and this nation could witness unrestrained, uncontrolled voting.”

Graham described a “doomsday scenario,” in which million of Americans from all walks of life line up to vote "on a whim".

He said he was “not alone” in sounding the alarm about a dangerous outbreak of voting this November. “I don’t know of a single Republican who wants to see this happen,” he said.

More proof that aliens haven't visited the US: If any of them accidentally strayed near it, they'd wind up the windows, lock the doors, and do a quick U-turn.

U.S. Life Expectancy Falls Again in ‘Historic’ Setback

The average life expectancy of Americans fell precipitously in 2020 and 2021, the sharpest two-year decline in nearly 100 years and a stark reminder of the toll exacted on the nation by the continuing coronavirus pandemic.

... and the opioid crisis, and the lack of access to good healthcare, and poverty, and ...

In contrast, NZ's average life expectancy has continued its steady upward trend regardless of whether there was a pandemic on or not.

Sarah Palin loses comeback bid in Alaska upset to Democrat - BBC News

Sarah Palin has lost a special congressional election in Alaska, in a district that was Republican-held for nearly five decades.

The winner, Democrat Mary Peltola, will be the first Alaskan Native to serve as a lawmaker in Congress for the state.

The race was to fill a vacancy left after the former officeholder died. The seat is up for grabs again in November.

Former Alaska governor Ms Palin, 58, rose to prominence as a vice-presidential candidate in 2008.

Ms Peltola, 49, was declared the winner on Wednesday by three percentage points in a state that ex-President Donald Trump took by 10 points in 2020.

I'd said most Republican voter are 10% embarrassed by their candidates, and should be at 70% or better

While it's good she lost, Mary is only going to have the job for a few months or so. I guess this was what we would call a by-election.

The full-blown thing will be held in November, and I guess there's a chance Palin could win in that one.

The NY Times - Trump’s Lawyers Renew Push for Special Master in Documents Inquiry

31 August

WASHINGTON - Former President Donald J. Trump’s legal team on Wednesday aggressively renewed its push for an independent arbiter to review documents the F.B.I. seized in its Aug. 8 search of his Florida residence, telling a federal judge that he had merely possessed “his own presidential records.”

The NY Times - Trump’s Legal Jab Left Him Open to Justice Dept. Strike

31 August

Former President Donald J. Trump may have thought that he was playing offense when he asked a federal judge last week for an independent review of documents seized from his residence in Florida - a move that, at best, could delay but not derail an investigation into his handling of the records.

But on Tuesday night, the Justice Department used a routine court filing in the matter to initiate a blistering counteroffensive that disclosed new evidence that Mr. Trump and his legal team may have interfered with the inquiry. ...

It was as if Mr. Trump, seeming not to fully grasp the potential hazards of his modest legal move, cracked open a door, allowing the Justice Department to push past him and seize the initiative.
