A good point raised here - why is Trump running again, exactly?

https://www.thebulwark.com/the-real-reason-trump-runs/

This struck me as interesting as well: https://morningshots.thebulwark.com/p/trump-will-burn-it-all-down

Republicans now know that they cannot win with Trump; but they also know that if he torches everything in sight, they can’t win without him either.

Major catch-22 situation here for Republicans.

Rupert Murdoch and Donald Trump in 2016

The Guardian - Murdoch tells Trump he will not back fresh White House bid

15 Nov 2022

Rupert Murdoch has reportedly warned Donald Trump his media empire will not back any attempt to return to the White House, as former supporters turn to the youthful Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

After the Republican party’s disappointing performance in the US midterm elections, in particular the poor showing by candidates backed by Trump, Murdoch’s rightwing media empire appears to be seeking a clean break from the former president’s damaged reputation and perceived waning political power.

Last week, Murdoch’s influential media empire, including right-leaning Fox News, his flagship paper the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post, each rounded on Trump, calling him a loser and a flop responsible for dragging the Republicans into “one political fiasco after another”.

Rupert knows a Loser when he sees one!  🙃

quickymart:  YAY! Goodbye and good riddance to the nasty piece of work dubbed "Trump in a dress". ...

+1   Kari Lake, AKA The Empress of Trollistan, the Queen of MAGA, the heir of Trumpistan, First Of Her Name ... joins Trump on the Loser dump.  🙃

EDIT

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix - Kari Lake’s loss is the biggest 2022 blow to MAGA yet

If one quip defined Kari Lake’s now-failed 2022 campaign for governor, it was what she said about the late Sen. John McCain.

We don’t have any McCain Republicans in here, do we? All right, get the hell out,” she said as far back as December 2021, adding: “Boy, Arizona has delivered some losers, haven’t they?

A good argument for why Ron may not be the Republican party's magical solution to its Donald Trump problem. Yes, he won in Florida, but can he replicate that win nationwide?

But pinning all Republican hopes on DeSantis may not work for the GOP. Florida is not the rest of the United States, and DeSantis has embraced much of Trumpism himself. If voters are rejecting not just Trump, but his approach to politics, then a Trumpy alternative to Trump is no solution. Most importantly, broad and lasting success for the party will not be so simple as trading one cult of personality for another.

The Florida Man stereotype exists for a reason, it could well be that DeSantis is unsellable to most of the rest of the US.

Imagine 2024 if Ron runs instead - and loses. Trump would be absolutely ecstatic, "you should have chosen me instead! Haha! Choke on that, losers!" ("losers" being the GOP).

Breaking News

The world's worst-kept secret: Trump has filed to run again in 2024. It's going to be interesting to see how much he screws things up again - or if he has the backing and support this time to make it to the end.

I know everyone said he wouldn't go anywhere in 2016, but things are quite different now.

The NY Times - Trump Announces 2024 Run, Despite Widespread G.O.P. Misgivings

breaking

Former President Donald J. Trump is giving a rambling speech, repeating false claims and wildly exaggerating his achievements after saying he will seek another term.

He ignored Republicans’ concerns that he was to blame for the party’s weak midterm showing.

There is very little new here. ...

Trump just called for an elimination of all early voting, absentee voting and electronic voting machines. “Only paper ballots,” he said.

No surprises then.   😕

Be careful what you wish for - we might get both.  🙁

Or, with luck, Trump may die before 2024.

Maybe a stray missile will get him. Does he have any golf resorts in Poland?

You're actually listing three, not two: Trump starts World War III triggering armageddon and then Jesus returns in the rapture.

And then all the evangelicals who've been eagerly awaiting this find out a bit too late that it was actually the Jews who had it right.

Batman:

That was earlier today, current thinking is that it was a stray Ukrainian SAM fired at an incoming Russian missile.
