Fact-checking Trump's announcement speech. As usual he speaks a load of bs, which his base just laps up like it's the absolute truth.

So once again Trump dominates the media landscape. Do we really have to go through this again?

People were trying to get out before he even finished speaking. Maybe he simply doesn't have the pulling power anymore?

Hell, you couldn't pay me enough to listen to him ramble on like that. It was bad enough having to listen to him for free on the news.

Yet here you folk are spending time, energy and emotion talking about him.

Whilst impossible to completely avoid anything about him, like it's impossible to avoid anything else that might annoy you, like ads or the weather, you can choose to ignore most of it.

Unless of course you actually do enjoy the cringe and coming here to rant about it.......which is OK tooπŸ™‚.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

BBC News - Donald Trump 2024: Why it will be harder for him to run this time

today (condensed +++)

Six ways it's harder for Trump to run this time:

1. Running with a record - While Mr Trump had some notable policy achievements during his four years in office, he also had some prominent failures.

2. The shadow of 6 January - Trump will have to defend the way he handled the end of his presidency and his role in the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

3. Legal headaches - Trump is currently defending himself against a criminal election-tampering inquiry in Georgia, a civil fraud case targeting his business empire in New York, a defamation lawsuit involving a sexual assault allegation, and federal probes into his role in the Capitol attack and his post-presidential handling of classified material.

4. A tougher opponent - The Florida governor could emerge as the consensus pick among the party faithful not interested in giving Mr Trump another shot.

5. Popularity woes - According to exit polls from the recently concluded midterm elections, Mr Trump is simply not very popular - including in the key states he would need to win to secure the presidency in a general election.

6. Father Time - If he wins the presidency, Mr Trump would be 78 years old when he's sworn in.

Massive burn from Rupert Murdoch towards Trump. Rupert's made it pretty clear which side he's on now. Guess Trump's not such a favourite anymore - it definitely won't be 2016 all over again, that's for sure:

https://thespinoff.co.nz/live-updates/17-11-2022/murdochs-new-york-post-reports-florida-retiree-announcement-on-page-26

With just 720 days to go before the next election, a Florida retiree made the surprise announcement that he was running for president. Avid golfer Donald J Trump kicked things off at Mar-a-Lago, his resort and classified-documents library. Trump, famous for gold-plated lobbies and for firing people on reality television, will be 78 in 2024. If elected, Trump would tie Joe Biden as the oldest president to take office. His cholesterol levels are unknown, but his favourite food is a charred steak with ketchup. He has stated that his qualifications for office include being a “stable genius”.

Trump also served as the 45th president.

The NY Times - Live Updates: Republicans Gain Control of the House

With a victory in California, Republicans captured the 218 House seats required to take a narrow majority and frustrate President Biden’s agenda.

In Los Angeles, Karen Bass [Democrat] became the first woman elected as mayor of the nation’s second-largest city.

They might have the House but it's not much of a margin really, is it? Democrats still have the Senate - and if they win Georgia next month it will be a lot easier for them.

Interesting interview about the Pizzagate conspiracy that goes into a lot more background detail than the basics, 1990s satanic child abuse panic crashes into Terry Gilliam fictional movie drug inspired by a surreal druggie book. It's an hour long but they really need all that time to cover the sheer mass of crazy that's present.

The Washington Post - Opinion - At long last, Trump gives his concession speech

16 Nov 2022

It was rambling. It was vain. At times, it was weird. ...

Still, Donald Trump’s hour-long speech Tuesday night should be remembered not just for the things he said, including his announcement that he will seek another presidential term in 2024.

What mattered most was what he did not say ...

At no time did he repeat his false claim of massive cheating in 2020, nor did Trump say Biden holds office illegitimately ...

He even indirectly acknowledged the reality of the 2022 results by boasting that “by 2024,” when he intends to head the ticket, “the voting will be much different.

In short, by Trump standards, this was a concession speech.

The concession was to reality - the reality that voters on Nov. 8 spoke in free and fair elections ...

DeSantis can announce on his own schedule. Unlike Trump, DeSantis is not in imminent danger of being charged, arrested and convicted and does not need to raise money for legal fees.
