And Now For Something Completely Different:

BBC News - Kanye West announces 2024 presidential bid

breaking

Rapper Kanye West has said he intends to run for US president in 2024, despite facing several scandals over his recent behaviour.

The star, who has legally changed his name to Ye, posted a video of his campaign logo to social media, alongside the caption Ye 24.

He also claimed to have asked Donald Trump to be his running mate.

West previously ran for president in 2020, but that campaign flopped, attracting a meagre 70,000 votes.

We really need a new variant of the Nuremberg Defence, "I was just following orders", this time the Mar a Lago Defence, "I've never met this person before in my life".

This is a common thing Trump does when backed into a corner with this sort of thing; he trots out the "I don't know this person" or "I barely/hardly know this person" line. Of course with all the lies he tells it's hard to know whether he actually does know the person (short of photographic evidence) or he genuinely doesn't know them from Adam.

Exactly, which is why it should have a proper name, like the Nuremberg Defence does.

This must sting Trump quite a bit.

Also, the fallout from his dinner with someone "I didn't know anything about" who just happened to be a white supremacist continues: https://www.axios.com/2022/11/26/chris-christie-donald-trump-nick-fuentes-dinner

The Washington Post - Opinion - Congress gets to see Trump’s tax returns. It shouldn’t have taken so long.

26 Nov 2022

After a Tuesday Supreme Court ruling, the House Ways and Means Committee will, at long last, get former president Donald Trump’s tax returns, nearly 1,400 days since the panel started asking for them. ...

Alas, the court’s decision does not assure that Mr. Trump’s tax records will ever become public or that future presidents will not follow his lead in refusing to voluntarily disclose their own.

Restoring the norm under which presidential contenders voluntarily disclose their tax returns - followed by nearly every major-party nominee since Nixon - is important. ...

And in Mr. Trump’s case, those records were especially relevant, given that he headed a sprawling and secretive privately held business.

In addition to his tax records, he should have provided a detailed accounting of his holdings and interests. ...

Americans could only guess how its provisions might personally enrich the president and his family.

Colour me unsurprised.

Also - https://www.politico.com/news/2022/11/27/republicans-against-trump-2024-00070632 I would say "oh, Trump's a write-off this time, for sure" but he has surprised me too many times previously. Once bitten, twice shy, etc - but does he have another act (or surprise) left in him this time around?

Honestly I thought I knew the meaning of the word carpetbagger, from the US civil war. However I guess now in the US it means a politician who claims to runs in a district where he doesn't live.

"Carpetbagger" is a loaded term. I wouldn't use it.

Herschel Walker claims Texas as his primary residence on taxes, not Georgia where he's running

Translation: "WAHHH! LOOK AT ME! I'M A VICTIM! ME ME ME!"

And as usual, most Republicans in power say absolutely 0 about their wonderful, orange Dear Leader dining with a white supremacist (Kevin McCarthy? Mitch McConnell, anyone?) https://www.axios.com/2022/11/27/republicans-trump-fuentes-dinner-silence

I find it amusing that Kanye expected Trump to take him seriously to be his running mate. Not in a million years.

Great entertainment. The worst possible insult that can be hurled at Trump is to ask him to be second fiddle.

The more votes, GOP selection & Nov 22/24, taken away from trump the BETTER.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
