More Trump delusionhttps://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/royals/300831738/donald-trump-claims-queen-elizabeth-and-princess-diana-among-those-who-kissed-my-ass

Reminds me of this Trump quote:

“I remember a very famous pollster, very well known, John McLaughlin, came to my office just prior to the plague coming and he said, ‘Sir, if George Washington and Abraham Lincoln came alive from the dead and they formed a president-vice president team, you would beat them by 40 percent.’ That’s how good our numbers were.”

It's probably a lie, because Trump famously lies when he says "they say"

But even if Trump didn't lie about McLaughlin's quote, previously CNN had this to say about the pollster

"CNN is well aware of the reputation of John McLaughlin and McLaughlin & Associates. In 2014 his firm famously reports that Eric Cantor was leading his primary challenger Dave Brat by 34 points only to lose by 11 points – a 45 point swing. The firm currently has a "C" to "D" rating from FiveThirtyEight."

Let's also remember the other line of his: "lots of people are saying/talking about it". Presumably this "lots" is the 6 people inside his tight inner circle. No one outside of that is saying anything of the sort.

Consider this quote from Peril, when Mike Pence contacted Dan Quayle about - apparent - election fraud in Arizona, being espoused by Trump and his "circle":

Quayle turned to Trump’s assertion that the election had been stolen from
him. He told Pence those statements were ridiculous and eroded public trust.

“There’s no evidence,” Quayle said.

“Well, there’s some stuff out in Arizona,” Pence said, updating Quayle on the
Trump campaign’s legal efforts there. There was a lawsuit in federal court to
compel Arizona’s governor to “decertify” Biden’s win in the state, which had
enraged Trump ever since Fox News called Arizona for Biden at 11:20 p.m. on
election night.

“Mike, I live in Arizona,” Quayle said. “There’s nothing out here.”

But if you asked Trump, oh, there was election fraud everywhere 🙄

Definitely worth a read:

“What,” writes Nick Catoggio, “would you get if you asked ChatGPT to craft a Ukraine policy optimized to pander to Tucker Carlson viewers rather than to maximize American interests?”

“This. You’d get this.”

DeSantis wants voters to see him as a fighter, a punch-the-libs-in the face warrior, but what if he’s just a jumped-up chatbot? Here’s Catoggio:

DeSantis’ entire career might profitably be understood as a ChatGPT response to populist inputs. In 2012, when grassroots right-wingers were spoiling for entitlement reform, ChatRON spat out some argle-bargle about raising the retirement age. In 2022, when grassroots right-wingers were spoiling for culture war, it spat out contempt for an alphabet soup of woke acronyms (CRT, DEI, ESG …) while assuring voters that entitlements are safe.

In 2012 ChatRON would have insisted on projecting strength abroad, treating dovishness as distinctive of Democratic weakness. In 2022 it’ll mumble something about “blank checks” and ending endless wars.

It may seem sentient but it’s really just autocomplete on steroids.

The NY Times - Judge Rules Trump Lawyer Must Testify in Documents Inquiry

17 March 2023

A federal judge has ruled that prosecutors overseeing the investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s handling of classified documents can pierce assertions of attorney-client privilege and compel one of his lawyers to answer more questions before a grand jury ...

In making her ruling, the judge, Beryl A. Howell, found that the government had met the threshold for a special provision of the law known as the crime-fraud exception

That provision allows prosecutors to work around attorney-client privilege when they have reason to believe that legal advice or legal services have been used in furthering a crime. ...

It remains unclear what crime prosecutors are asserting may have been committed - or who may have committed it.

Former President Donald Trump will follow the normal procedure in surrendering to face criminal charges if indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, his lawyer said.

And what does Don Trumpo say?

And the cat came back ...  😒

CNBC - Trump posts on Facebook for first time since Jan. 6 Capitol riot

17 March 23

  •     Former President Donald Trump posted to Facebook for the first time since the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

  •     Trump has been expected to return to the Meta-owned platform and Twitter after both companies lifted their suspensions of his profiles.

  •     His new Facebook post came hours after YouTube said it would lift its own restrictions on Trump’s account, allowing it to post new videos.

I’M BACK!” Trump wrote in the post, which included a short CNN clip of him from the night he was elected president during which he said: “Sorry to keep you waiting. Complicated business. Complicated.”

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/18/trump-protest-arrest-tuesday-00087738

Translation: "blah blah blah, wah wah wah, I'm such a victim, look at me, I need attention"

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/03/18/politics/donald-trump-manhattan-da-arrest-protests/index.html

His call for a protest in response to a potential arrest echoes his final days in office, when he repeatedly urged his supporters to reject the results of the 2020 presidential election, culminating in the deadly January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

Some of Trump’s advisers had urged him privately not to call for protests, concerned about the optics of a mass protest in the streets of Manhattan growing out of control or resembling the 2021 insurrection.

As usual, the moron doesn't listen to his advisers (why does he even have them?) and thinks he knows everything about everything.

I hope no one turns up or does anything at all - once bitten, twice shy for most of the January 6 insurrectionists?

The Guardian - Trump Media executives worried over murky $8m loans, emails reveal

17 March 2023

Top executives at Donald Trump’s social media company started to become concerned last spring about $8m that they had accepted from opaque entities in two emergency loans when its auditors sought further details about the payments ...

The payments had come at a critical time for Trump Media – which runs the Truth Social platform – because it was running out of cash ...

But the financing, which came in the form of a $2m loan from an entity called Paxum Bank registered in Dominica, and a $6m loan from an entity called ES Family Trust, had been arranged in a hurry and Trump Media knew next to nothing about the emergency lenders.

The executives had good reason to be concerned: a subsequent examination revealed that the trustee of ES Family Trust was simultaneously a director of Paxum Bank, and one of the part-owners of the bank would turn out to be the relation of an ally of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. ...

The implications and, more generally, the optics of Trump’s company borrowing money from potentially unsavory sources through opaque conduits are significant considering they could cast a pall over the former president as he seeks to recapture the White House in 2024.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Donald Trump ..."

The Guardian - Trump deregulated railways and banks. He blames Biden for the fallout.

18 March 2023

In true hypocritical manner, the ex-president has quickly forgotten why the two sectors are in shambles.

When a fiery train derailment took place on the Ohio-Pennsylvania border last month, Donald Trump saw an opportunity. The former US president visited East Palestine, accused Joe Biden of ignoring the community and distributed self-branded water before dropping in at a local McDonald’s.

Then, when the Silicon Valley Bank last week became the second biggest bank to fail in US history, Trump again lost no time in making political capital. He predicted that Biden would go down as “the Herbert Hoover of the modrrn [sic] age” and predicted a worse economic crash than the Great Depression.

Yet it was Trump himself who, as US president, rolled back regulations intended to make railways safer and banks more secure. ...

Critics said his attacks on the Biden administration offered a preview of a disingenuous presidential election campaign to come and, not for the first time in Trump’s career, displayed a shameless double standard.

Liberal outrage is pointless and self-defeating. Trump has already demonstrated that. He pisses on his supporters and they suck it up like nectar. If there is to be any hope of winning this war, there has to be a new approach.
