https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/568005/kiwis-lucky-to-have-premium-butter-as-only-option-but-have-to-pay-market-price-for-it-federated-farmers

Federated Farmers Dairy Industry Group chairperson Karl Dean said New Zealanders had to pay the market rate.

"We are lucky we get a premium product as our only option... the rest of the world would love to have grass-fed butter all the time," he said.

That's strange, I don't feel "lucky" paying double what I did for the same product only 12 months ago? Another tone-deaf reply, which our Government - of course - expects to exactly nothing about? 🙄

What is it that you want the government to do?

No but at least my taxpayer dollars won't be going towards supporting them. I can choose not to eat butter. But right now I am still paying them anyway even if I don't.

Cool story. It's not related to the price of butter which is what the complaint was about.

Of course it is. We, the taxpayers, save them hundreds of millions of dollars every year by not having to participate in the ETS like everyone else does. And in return for that taxpayer subsidy, we get treated the same as every other customer.

Now, as I said way above, I have no problem with them treating us like every other customer. As long as they don't turn around expect us to treat them specially unlike any other business.

Quid pro quo: if NZ is nothing special to them, why should they be anything special to NZ?

Nah, it's just that you don't like farmers.

The comment I replied to, which was not from you, complained the government wasn't doing anything about the price of butter doubling. I'd like to know what the government should be doing to reduce the price of butter.

I've seen Lurpak in New Zealand. Not sure if they are there anymore.

I have no problem with farmers. What I don't like is people who want it both ways. It just so happens that the most vocal farmers - and Fonterra - quite definitely want it both ways.

I find his lack of support remarkable. Dame Jacinda Ardern had her supporters, no matter what. Sir John Key had an adoring fanbase. And Helen Clark had her rock-solid fanboys and girls. I’m yet to meet one person who is a fan of – and backs – Luxon.

He’s a man alone, without the charisma, charm or policies that are convincing New Zealanders they should stick with him. At this stage, mid-electoral cycle, voters are starting to look around and seeing that National has fulfilled few of its campaign promises.

Duncan Garner makes a case that the current National government will be a one-term-er.
