kingdragonfly: Former President Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, stands out from the rest of the Republican field on the issue for his active minimization of the threat of climate change. ...
Denial is very effective mechanism for ignoring an unpleasant reality - until you can't ignore it any more. 😲
Signs of Denial
Does this sound like somebody we know? 🤔
PS: Denial is much easier if you are an obscenely wealthy Narcissistic moron.

HA HA! Right in the middle of the primary season too!
As usual with Trump, the devil is in the detail ....
The NY Times - Trial in Trump Documents Case Set for May 2024
21 July 2023
In her order, Judge Aileen M. Cannon said the trial was to be held in her home courthouse in Fort Pierce, Fla., a coastal city two-and-a-half hours north of Miami that will draw its jury pool from several counties that Mr. Trump won handily in his two previous presidential campaigns. ...
The date Judge Cannon chose to start the trial - May 20, 2024 - falls after the bulk of the primary contests. But it is less than two months before the start of the Republican National Convention in July and the formal start of the general election season.

The Washington Post - Trump prosecutions consume campaign funds and messaging as charges mount
21 July 2023
Any distinction between the former president’s White House bid and his criminal defense is vanishing as the charges against him mount.
Fighting those prosecutions is increasingly dominating his time, resources and messaging, making the centerpiece of his candidacy an appeal to stay out of prison. ...
To illustrate how Trump’s criminal defense is swallowing his campaign, just over half of the money he raised last quarter went to an affiliated PAC that is footing the legal bills.

The NY Times - Opinion - The Moment of Truth for Our Liar in Chief
22 July 2023
WASHINGTON - A man is running to run the government he tried to overthrow while he was running it, even as he is running to stay ahead of the law.
That sounds loony, except in the topsy-turvy world of Donald Trump, where it has a grotesque logic.
The question now is: Has Trump finally run out of time, thanks to Jack Smith, who runs marathons as an Ironman triathlete? ...
Now, Mr. Smith goes to Washington. (That classic movie remembers a time when politicians got ashamed when they were caught doing wrong. How quaint.)
This special counsel is another straight arrow trying to deal with a slippery switchblade: In a masterpiece of projection, Trump has been denouncing Smith as a “deranged prosecutor” and “a nasty, horrible human being.”
Trump has been zigzagging his whole life and now, unbelievably, he’s trying to zigzag back into the White House, seemingly intent on burning down the federal government and exacting revenge on virtually everyone.

kingdragonfly: President Warren Harding was elected during the "roaring 20's", and was one of the most popular presidents.
He urged the reduction of income taxes, increased tariffs, anti-labor unions, and invisible hand economics. As a typical hypocrite, he was very keen on giving out government subsidies to the wealthiest and/or corrupt businesses.
Harding himself wasn't actually that bad, he was just totally uninterested in being president when there was gambling and womanising to occupy his time. He was appointed through a notorious smoke-filled back room session as a compromise candidate that'd be easy to control, keep covering his hush-money payments for his endless affairs, turn a blind eye to him using the White House to carry out some of them, and he'd let you do whatever you wanted. In his first year or so in office he pushed for things like better race relations and similar, if he'd died in about mid-22 instead of a year later he'd have gone down as one of the better presidents.

The Guardian - Never Trumpers get ‘brutal wake-up call’ as Republican candidates flounder
24 July 2023
For Asa Hutchinson, former governor of Arkansas, there were boos and chants of “Trump! Trump!”. For Francis Suarez, mayor of Miami, there were jeers and cries of “Traitor!” And perhaps most tellingly, there was no Florida governor Ron DeSantis at all. The recent Turning Point USA conference brought thousands of young conservatives to Florida and there was no doubting the main attraction: former president Donald Trump, who made a glitzy entrance accompanied by giant stage sparklers. In a less than rigorous poll, 86% of attendees gave Trump as their first choice for president; DeSantis, who polled 19% last year, was down to 4%.
Events and numbers like this are cause for sleepless nights among those Republican leaders and donors desperate to believe it would be different this time. ...
DeSantis’s campaign is flailing and leaving some with buyers’ remorse. Hutchinson and Chris Christie, outspoken Trump critics, are polling in single digits, sowing doubts about voters’ appetite for change.
Never Trumpers have reason to fear that his march to the Republican nomination may already be unstoppable.

Many people who have worked in proximity to Trump have come away saying he is a moron, idiot or imbecile. Quite simply, he lacks depth and intelligence though he does have the ability to whip up supporters with emotive slogans and rambling word salads.
Trump is dumb. He is also lucky. He started off with a silver spoon and good connections and they have protected him from his stupidities ever since. But because he is dumb and has always got away with things, he isn’t very good at covering his tracks. Thanks to his talent (maybe the only one) for screwing himself, he is currently doing Jack Smith’s work and thoroughly miring himself in his lies, inconsistencies, and inability to see the bigger picture. He is slow walking into his cell and closing the door behind him. Even he can see this but he lacks the wit to stop it. He has never been able to comprehend the mysteries of chess and he is the prosecution’s greatest asset, a mushy dumb loser who can’t understand why he can’t get off the train.
