gzt: USA already has a base in Greenland. Denmark is part of the NATO alliance.

Why does the US need to 'own' it when the US already has military bases there?

A pure show of force to demonstrate to Putin how it's done correctly ... just like in Venezuela. Only with a slight scratch on a helicopter and no casualties, unlike in Ukraine. And now they have the oil (which they don't really need, because they have their own).

That's just how it is with the clown. He wants to force open doors with all his might, just so he can say ‘mine’.

A general video. The extremely expensive cutting edge NATO tanks did very badly in early days, because NATO doctrine didn't consider Russian drones.

The video states " According to National Security Journal reporting from August 2025, only 4 of 31 M1A1 Abrams remained operational by June 2025. The Challenger 2 suffered similar losses, tied with Abrams for 'one of the least effective Western tanks in the entire war' based on survival rates. "

This is hearsay, because that Journal cites Ukrainian news reports from June 2025. So take it with a grain of salt.

It does suggest a broader vulnerability of high-cost platforms to low-cost autonomous systems.

I'm sure all navies are rethinking their investments too.

Ukraine Is Using Western Tanks in a Way No One Planned For - Russia didn't expect this

MilitaryCentra

Western tanks like the Leopard 2, M1 Abrams, and Challenger 2 were designed for fast breakthrough warfare across open battlefields. That’s not how Ukraine is using them.

The main problem IMHO was the painful slow escalation gave Russia tons of warning of increasing capability.

Russia entered the war using almost everything, ballistic missiles on downward, civilian targets, torture, executions.
Pre-escalation if you will.
The west delayed on even training to get 6-12 months ahead while Ukraine had people queuing up to train, but little resource, without the systems.

Nothing kills recruitment than idea you will end up alone with just an empty clip.
Once congress held up support for 8 months or more and Ukraine in heavy rationing of basics, it had chilling effect Putins people in USA wanted.

Time for Russia to develop drone capability, develop partners in China, North Korea and Iran to scale up.

In the time that west admitted the million-shell program had failed, barely 250K in one year.
Russia has its 8 million or so shell drop from North Korea, ballistic missiles in addition to Shaheeds, training from Iran.
Failure rate, not that big a problem when they are 8 million more just waiting for next shipment. Feedback and Russian technical help, helps North Korean factories get better.

Ukraine had early offensives relying on captured weapons and drip feed of new capability, so while massive, ran out of steam earlier than they should have. Get Putin when overconfident.

If Allies had just stopped on the beaches of Normandy and said, see we surprised you, give up, we will wait months for your answer.
We will just sit here with no re-enforcements and wait. No need to hurry Mr H.

Biden was far too cautious. He should have been much more assertive. This whole mess could have over and done with by now, with the possible exception of sorting out the aftermath in Russia.

Russian LNG tanker attacked and on fire in the Med. Might also go in the Luxon thread considering just another example of why everyone advised them not to build an LNG terminal for energy security.

Numerous commentators have noted Ukraine is liberating more land than Russia is occupying since Russian Starlink terminals were disabled.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0q3ndj7052o

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/02/25/elon-musk-russian-army-starlink-00793742

"In the days following the shutdown, Ukraine recaptured roughly 77 square miles in the country’s southeast, according to calculations by the news agency Agence France-Presse based on data from the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War."

Also, Russian casualties continue to mount but Putin still resists a general mobilisation of the public. The financial incentives to get volunteers to sign up are bleeding Russian coffers dry, but Putin knows from history that conscription will be very unpopular, ala 1917.

It seems invading Ukraine is his number 1 aim, but his number 1 aim, like all despots, is actually to stay in power and keep his head attached to his body.

FWIW, the only commentators I bother with for Ukraine updates are:

Artur Rehi who presents positive news where possible - https://www.youtube.com/@arturrehi

Anders Puck Nielsen - https://www.youtube.com/@anderspuck - a Danish military analyst

Perun - https://www.youtube.com/@PerunAU - tends to comment on military production with a strategic view

"Putin asks oligarchs to donate to Russia’s dwindling defence budget. At least two businessmen have told Putin they would be willing to make contributions to the defence budget after talks on Thursday, the newspaper reported."

More like "Here, there is a window here. Let me help you with opening it."
