Most Trump supporters - and especially the MAGA nuts - seem to be totally unaware of, or are just refusing to confront the reality of, Trump's legal situation. Short of 'Divine Intervention' (which I'm sure many Trumpers are expecting, ROFLMAO) there's no way he can become the next US President.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the looming fiasco.

I wouldn't count on it.

I agree. This YouTube video from the Hoover Institute is a good discussion of the legal cases that Trump faces and why they won’t stop him.

Batman: The trouble is nobody there likes Biden.

81 million voters last time would beg to differ. Yes 2024 will be different but that doesn't exactly mean everyone there loves Trump, either. Far from it.

what is the total number of eligible voters in the USA?

what is the total number of eligible voters who turned out in 2020 to vote?

what was trumps voter count in 2020, being that Biden was 81 million?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Apparently:

168.42 million people were registered to vote in the United States (in 2022)

66.6% voted in 2020

Trump got around 74 million votes.

Note that Hoover bias is right-center.

More accurately they are libertarian. They are very antigovernment, so-far right, that they have some left-wing principles around reducing drug laws and increased access of birth control.

Just a brrief glance shows very strong "pro-Trump" bias. Hoover Institute fellow Victor Davis Hanson is very pro-Trump having written a book called “The Case for Trump"

Another fellow wrote an article called "Presidential Payback For Media Hubris" which says Trump doesn't get fair treatment in the press, with the additonal charge that Obama received overly optimistic media coverage.

They have also parroted Republican talking points like Benghazi, Hillary’s crookedness, ...

They've written articles like "Coronavirus Overreaction: The hasty and disproportionate responses to COVID-19 will prove far more devastating than the disease."

The board members had/have tight ties with Trump's economics team.

So yeah, take anything they say with a big grain of salt.

Apparently, Trump does well and is expected to do well in strong Evangelical areas.

Trump is chosen of God and talked in Godly terms or new Profit. Despite the years of obviously far from it.

Evangelicals I once thought as mainly mostly harmless years back, first stone and turn the other cheek and all.

They will happily go into 'autocratic slavery' for power and riches that come with it now being focused on wealth.

Like mostly harmless playful Smegal on finding the one ring and becoming Gollum.

Many great truths come disguised as typos:

Trump definitely prefers new profit to being a new prophet.

The Oxford Dictionary:

prophet: a person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the will of God.

profit:  financial gain, especially the difference between the amount earned and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something.

On these issues, it is good to take everything anyone says with a big grain of salt.

But it is also good to respond to the substantive content of their discussion rather than dismissing their views out of hand because of factors outside the discussion.

I’ve read and watched a lot of presentations and discussions and I found that this video gave me good insights into the legal issues.

They also talk about why Trump’s current support will not weaken if he loses in court. I might not like their assessment on this point but I value their viewpoint because it doesn’t appear to be a straw man like many other arguments.

Knowing how the other side thinks is a lost art, and I don't disagree with your point.

But libertarians, like the Hoover institute, are strange beasts.

A great example of libertarians' contradictory thought patterns is Elon Musk. He throws his hat into the libertarian ring, but he has not shrunk from government help when it has been good for business.

I've talked to a number of libertarians and found they can be quite reasonable, until you stumble into into some strange rabbit hole like gun rights, or legalization of all hard drugs.

quickymart: His lawyer isn't winning any plaudits from the judge.

Judge responded, “Mr. Trump has the right to be present here. That right can be forfeited and it can be forfeited if he is disruptive, which what has been reported to me consists of. And if he disregards court orders, Mr. Trump, I hope I don’t have to consider excluding you from the trial.”

Trump threw his hands up in response.

“I understand you’re probably eager for me to do that,” Judge Kaplan said.

Reporters in the courtroom heard Trump say, “I would love it.”

“I know you would,” Judge Kaplan said. “You just can’t control yourself in this circumstance apparently.”

God Made a Dictator

The "Never Trump" Lincoln Project has responded to the recent "God created Trump" ad with an alternative version:

"God made a dictator. God said I need a wicked man to lead the common folk with hatred and fear, so God made a dictator. God said I need a corrupt man who is above the law and immune from justice. So god made a dictator. God said I need a man who will use violence to seize power. So God made a dictator. God said I need a man whose followers will call black 'white,' call evil 'good,'and call criminals 'hostages.' So God made a dictator."

Politico: Trump goes back to court as E. Jean Carroll’s defamation trial begins

Hours after trouncing his rivals in the Iowa caucuses, Donald Trump wasn’t out fundraising or turning his attention to next week’s New Hampshire primary. Instead, he was back in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday morning, where for hours he sat silently, observing the selection of a jury that will determine how much money he should pay a rape accuser he defamed.
...
It is Trump’s second trial against the writer E. Jean Carroll, who won her first case against the former president last year when a jury found him liable for sexually abusing her in the 1990s and then defaming her in 2022. That jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $5 million in damages.

The current trial concerns separate comments that Trump made about Carroll in 2019, while Trump was president. The jury’s job is to determine not whether Trump defamed Carroll in those comments — U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan has already ruled that he did — but simply how much Trump should pay her in damages. (Any award would come on top of the $5 million awarded in the 2023 trial.)

Trump said in 2019 that Carroll, who had publicly claimed he raped her in the dressing room of a luxury department store decades earlier, had falsely accused him and suggested she was motivated by money. “I’ve never met this person in my life,” he said at the time. “She is trying to sell a new book — that should indicate her motivation. It should be sold in the fiction section.”

The NY Times - Maine court puts hold on one of Trump’s primary ballot cases

breaking

A Maine judge on Wednesday put off deciding whether Donald Trump’s name can appear on that state’s primary ballot, saying the Supreme Court needs to rule on the issue first in a similar case out of Colorado. ...

[The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the Colorado case on Feb. 8. Its ruling on the issue is likely to apply to all states.]

Delay, delay, delay ...  🙄
