My apologies, on reflection of my comment it was a bit unnecessary and personal. Sorry about that, I should try not to lower myself to Trump's level 😕

Something a bit less controversial - a lot of Americans feel like this at the moment:

Sideface: When he predictably loses,” Gillers said, “he will claim he is the victim of the deep state.”

What matters is not backing down, he added.

There are many ways to be a fool.

In the Old Testament, in Hebrew, there are 5 kinds of fools
  • simple fool
  • silly fool
  • sensual fool
  • scornful fool
  • steadfast fool
The most dangerous type of fool is a steadfast, or committed, fool.

In Christianity there is faith, believing something even with contradictory evidence. If there were good supporting evidence, then faith would not be needed.

Closer to home, in a casino, in the card game blackjack, 21, an early surrender option allows you to quit a hand and pay only half of your initial bet before the dealer checks for a blackjack.

The early surrender option is the best one for blackjack players, as it reduces your losses (by about 1%; the house always wins.)

Lastly in economics, the sunk cost fallacy is the tendency to continue with an endeavor even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. It could be invested money, effort, or time. Only a fool won't "cut his losses."

Again, the worst kind fool is a steadfast fool.

freitasm:

@SJB I have removed your comment. It was defamatory and unless you have evidence and post it here, don't try it again.

@quickymart your supporting comment is abhorrent.

This whole thread is a loooong series of defamatory comments.

I mean, I agree with most of them, but just saying...

A couple of commentaries from around the web today:

https://abovethelaw.com/2024/01/alina-habba-moves-for-bad-court-thingy/ >> I think she may have tried to do this a couple of times too many now.

https://newrepublic.com/post/178262/trump-all-presidents-need-immunity >> this article also raises the point that, well, Biden would also be covered too!

The Guardian - Fascism is everywhere on the march. And it’s Trump who sets the pace.

20 Jan 2024  (extracts)

As matters stand, Trump is on course to win a third consecutive Republican presidential nomination and a possible second White House term.

The bigger, worldwide picture is more alarming still.

Far from being an exception to the rule, Trump reflects, amplifies and popularises a regressive global trend towards authoritarian, totalitarian, dictatorial, nationalistic and religiously, ethnically and culturally majoritarian forms of rightwing governance. ...

Trump epitomises the big man, the national strongman, who vows to defend and support the little guy and his threatened shibboleths of identity and community. In return, he demands a dictator’s unlimited power and fealty. ...

The liberal moment, it appears, is passing; the fascist nightmare looms anew. Under darkly lowering skies, the post-democratic age dawns.

I recommend reading the entire article - a 5-minute read.

Also worth watching this serious, intelligent patriot. First 15 comments below

Excellent speech! All Americans need to hear it.

Thumbs way up Mr. Schmidt. You said it right Americans need to wake up to this danger to our country and our freedoms. You earned my sub and the thumbs up.

I pray Steve is right, that ppl will, in the end, vote for what is best for our country.

As a European , it boggles the mind why all those people cannot see what this man is all about and are willing to vote for this awful person who doesn't give a damn about them.

Well spoken my brother

I want a president that doesn’t spend 25% of his presidency playing golf, and requires “executive time” to watch fox news.

I hope and pray people will vote as if the life of our Country is at stake.

Another strong editorial from my hero Mr Schmidt.

Thank you for speaking out, and for continuing to speak out. I’m so glad you agree with me, because your eloquence is scarily powerful. Please carry on, Mr. Schmidt.

Excellent speech!  I hope it reaches those who can still be awoken.

Well said, Steve. Democracy and the Rule of Law are at stake.

Steve, you are the voice of reason.

geekIT:  Steve Schmidt explains why Donald Trump will be defeated in 2024

Schmidt's final sentence summarizes the whole 12 minutes:

...  Donald Trump, "the most dangerous American who has ever lived."

Why does this remind me of the three volumes of Lord of the Rings that I read after they were published? I would never have thought that I would experience the growing threat from Mordor described there in a similar way.

No, the most dangerous Americans are those who vote for him!

However, these chafing rounds could also be caused by excessive practice with a large-caliber handgun. Is he right-handed? 😉
