Tinkerisk: However, these chafing rounds could also be caused by excessive practice with a large-caliber handgun. Is he right-handed?

Though I'm loath to admit it, I used to shoot very large caliber target pistol, 308, and never got callouses.

I disdained either rifles or scopes as unsportsmanlike. It was a gopher pistol. Various rodents are pests, and would pull there head into a burrow when they heard a gun shot. The 308 bullet was supersonic, so it would hit their head before they could hear the sound. Though I only shot rodents, the pistol could easily kill a bear.

I'm also loath to admit it, but I would shoot with maniacs who would carry "Dirty Harry" 44 magnums, and even the Israel Military Industries Desert Eagle, and they never got callouses either.

Real injuries I saw on others were shoulder bruises from large caliber rifles. Occasionally I'd see someone hit themselves in the face if they were not holding a pistol correctly.

@kingdragonfly

It was more or less meant as a kind of gallows humor. 😉 My .40 S&W would hold back just as well. It is also for pure self-defense against attacking wild boars in a thicket where no rifle can be used.

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/01/20/politics/trump-haley-new-hampshire/index.html

But over more than 90 minutes, Trump delivered the vengeful message that he has made the focus of his campaign, moaning about the lost 2020 race; defending the January 6, 2021, rioters; pushing again for the Supreme Court to declare him and all presidents immune from prosecution; mocking President Joe Biden; and, with the most gusto, lashing out at Haley, his former UN ambassador and the candidate closest to him in Granite State primary polls.

Don't the masses (even the diehard MAGA crowd) ever get sick of hearing Trump harp on and on and on about the 2020 election being stolen from him? For God's sake man, it wasn't - you lost all your court cases - and it was almost 4 years ago. Get over it and move on with your life.

On the other hand, I'm also hoping that he keeps it up, as a fair number of Republicans have said that they don't see how they could win in the general election with a candidate that keeps banging on about the past - specifically the last election, which is most definitely in the rearview mirror for most Americans by now, even for a majority of Republicans. It's just mostly that one mouthy guy who keeps on bringing it up like a broken record.

Since no training needed in the States, hopefully Germans are not as reckless as Americans.

When I was 16 years old, a friend shot himself in the leg with a 44 magnum pistol while solo hunting a boar. He was climbing over a barbed wire fence. Luckily it was only grazing wound.

Be careful in case your Trump wins. The internet never forgets and what is legal today is quickly illegal tomorrow. There was a time here when a joke about the GröFaZ was enough to get you picked up by the GeStaPo and a one-way ticket to a concentration camp.

OT: To be allowed to hunt here, you have to pass a state examination as a hunter in 12 subject areas, only 2 of which relate to firearms knowledge and practical shooting skills. Any danger during the practical handling of a weapon inevitably leads to a failed result. After 3 years, the examination allows you to work as a professional hunter (although this is rarely the case today). Hunting game with handguns is prohibited here, only defense and interception shooting is permitted.

He broke a lot of commonsense rules, including don't go hunting without a buddy, and don't hunt pig without a dog (boars are dangerous; not as bad as a bear, but close).

Way off subject, but in case someone is writing crime novel, and someone gets shot with a revolver.

Crime fiction book: Do Revolvers Have Safeties?

...
The short answer is no, revolvers do not have safeties in the same way some semi-automatic pistols do. There isn’t a switch or other device to press before the revolver can be fired. Usually.

If it's a revolver is it not a fundamental rule to make sure there is no bullet in the chamber? I don't know. I know nothing about guns but one sees a lot on television.

OT: The hammer of a revolver must not be cocked. Then it is at least secured against unintentional operation and dropping. My pistol has three safeties, none of which I have to activate separately or can forget to activate when I need to use it. I could even throw it to you cocked and loaded without it going off.

The Washington Post - Loyalty, long lines, ‘civil war’ talk: A raging movement propels Trump

21 Jan 2024

Voters have proved far more loyal to the former president than his Republican critics hoped at the beginning of last year, allergic to criticisms of his record and behavior - including what prosecutors say is evidence of criminal wrongdoing - and rushing to his side in the face of legal jeopardy. And Trump has trounced GOP rivals offering similar policy agendas, boosted by a fervent base that treats him with singular veneration.

Rallygoers wait all day to see him. Supporters dismiss video evidence of his inconsistencies and echo his grievances and falsehoods. Competitors have long written off as much as a third of the GOP electorate as set on Trump and utterly unpersuadable. A majority of Republicans believe Trump’s disproven claims that he actually beat Joe Biden in 2020, and in interviews, some Trump supporters appeared unwilling to accept a loss in 2024. In Trump, many see a movement leader giving voice to their struggles and settling scores on their behalf.

That fealty to Trump has alarmed some in the GOP and beyond. ...

No other candidate inspires quasi-religious statements of devotion like “Jesus is my savior, Trump is my president” and “I stand for the flag and kneel for the cross - TRUMP 2024” - two slogans on T-shirts regularly sold outside Trump rallies.

A perfect definition of a cult leader:

But you're European :) Double action revolvers are common in the US, and almost everyone carries either completely empty or fully loaded in the US.

It would be very unusual to leave a single chamber empty.

The holster is supposed to keep it safe, by protecting (hiding) the trigger.
