I consider this to be a vanity project by Winston Peters. And an anomaly in the MMP system where the proportional part of the vote 6 months ago is set aside. Winston is already an MP, why should someone who isn't even being voted for in the byelection get into Parliament. Yet another flaw in my opinion.

On the flip side it is a shame the balance wasn't shifted before the legislation endangering meal and rest breaks, and good faith bargaining was enacted.

A lot can change in six months, so I totally disagree that a historical election result should be applied to a now vacant electoral seat.

The beauty of taking it to the polls is that if the majority of Northland voters agree with your view, Winston hasn't got a chance of getting in.

However, if the majority of voters have a different view ....

Well that was an almighty hiding for the government. It'll be interesting to see if this makes effects any change or if the Key government follows most third term governments by descending into chaos.

They really did run a party hack for Norhland.

The Nats were arrogant enough to run a second-rate candidate against an old pro in an electorate that they had neglected.
They have paid for their arrogance.

No, this is incorrect.

There is however a disconnect between local party and central party. If it was up to the central party, Osborne will not be chosen.

What exactly are the good people of Northland going to get from electing Peters? It is pathetic.

Now we are back to bad politics and back room shady dealing to get legislation through. Major modernisation of the RMA will probably not happen now so the costs to mums and dads of any Council type service will continue at crazy levels.

Want an example of a crazy power ridden Council..check out Kapiti District Council.

Not to mention the effect his by-election win has had on the Black Caps. 33 for 3 for goodness sake!
