Saw it on TV at lunch time. Looks like the Peak Engineering Party..

Colours have been shifted around. I think I get what he's trying to do there.
Sounds like a load of kitty litter to me.
It is not actually the red peak flag, with the colours shifted. It is another design that they came up with before the flag shortlist.

I don't care particularly about cats (and that was more a media beat-up than anything else).
I found that there's not much that I disagree with in his "Vision" and "Issues" pages. If he can get some traction, this will be a disaster for Labour. Whether he can actually deliver anything remains to be seen.

Yes different designs with different proprotions. If you check the shortlist of the top 50 flags chosen, both should be on it. I think the GM one was in a narrower flag format, and the red peak was the wider format.
Well, the great thing about Political Parties is that you get to vote for the one you like (or in some cases, the one that you dislike the least...)
Gareth Morgan is a divisive figure and even though I don't particularly subscribe to most of his views, I think you need some polarising figures for people who fancy those views, to attach themselves to.
Some of Gareth's forays include travelling through North Korea and finding;
"In Gareth’s view, what North Korea has achieved economically despite its lack of access to international money has been magnificent."
Then there is his views around Palestine/Israel relationships;

Colin Craig and Kim Dotcom have both shown that throwing money at an election doesn't win you a seat. Gareth will need to get a volunteer base that can spread a clear concise message around what you will get if you vote for this party.
On a lighter note, here are some portfolios that Gareth could fill;
- Minister of Conservation. All cats gone
- Minister of Foreign Affairs.

What a crock. Is this party for real or is it something to do? It will get few votes, none of them expect to get anywhere. Too much money, too much free time if you ask me. Adds no value
Hey - Come on - he is a smart enough guy with some good ideas (even if has has upset some daft cat owners). Whether he gets a political party off the ground will remain to be seen.
He has put quite a lot of his own personal money and effort into the Pacific - Building classrooms, setting up healthcare etc.
Also quite a bit of his own money into conservation in NZ.
He was doing a dollar for dollar match with a fund to build classrooms and provide books for children in conjuncton with UNICEF in the Solomon Islands after the one charity - I was quite proud to see how money was used.
Dis him if you like - but find out what is actually doing rather than just trash him outright.
Thats the thing. He wants to get things done, and stop the lack of inertia with career politicians etc. Why start a party? That wont help. They wont govern, they wont get any seats. What he should be doing is supporting young politicians and preparing them for Govt. Then any efforts he does will have more impact as they will be "in" Govt in the future. But making a party wont really accomplish anything. It strikes me as a cool thing to muck around with, as he must know he can't make an impact with yet another little party. In the next or election after that, he could well have a number of groomed young politicians who can run in the party he supports

I do too. Labour and National on top, him in the middle, disrupting

The thing about mmp is you don't need to be the party with the most seats to have influence and bring in policies, in exchange for support. Eg. Look at Act , united future, NZ first etc. they have had quite a lot of influence. We wouldn't have the gold card without NZ first. But I think his views on cats are going to get a lot of people off side. Potentially it alienates half the population that likes cats. He does have a lot of good points with some of the plans he prefers. He sees the property problems NZ has, and the tax benefits property has over productive investments.
Career politicians are a huge problem, they should get a set maximum number of terms. The problem is most seem to stay in well past their use by date, so that they qualify for the pension and benefits that longstanding ones get. They really need to do away with that. Pay they more instead, so they have their own pension scheme, and limit them to 3 terms.
It is stupid though that you need 5 percent to get in under MMP, or you need to win an electorate seat. 5 percent is a high threshold. If they don't get 5 percent, those votes are wasted. So really the only way to get a new party in is on the back of a winning electorate vote. this is a lot easier if the person is well known. It is the celebrity effect. It isn't a great system.
I agree, but he needs big votes, and even then it wont really matter. he should make his name grooming politicians for service for the Nats

And hand all real power over to the National Party MP selection panel?

Yes - but at this point in time he's talking rather centrist, which isn't really disruptive.
Perhaps he's got plans - else we've just read too much into the his "flag" logo.

He's been disruptive across political party lines with enough of his ideas to give us some confidence that he's capable of doing it in the electoral arena as well.
