I'm surprised they're still around, TBH. Is Kim still bankrolling them?

I don't understand how could he, based on news like this.

(13 June 2017): "Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom shouldn't be allowed to recover seized assets, argues a Justice Department filing with the US Supreme Court. The brief, filed on Friday, cited his fugitive status as well as a lack of evidence supporting claims that poor health was preventing him from entering the US."

Fugitive of some where he's never been to....

"Dotcom, the party's founder, resigned from the executive committee in February and has not been a member of either the policy or campaign committees, she said." -NZHerald

Not the same as bank rolling, but not involved in the decisions any more by the sounds of it.

jamesrt: Whilst I agree that the-party-formerly-known-as-the-Kim-DotCom-Club has continued to make itself look foolish with it's choice of head wierdo "leader", I was also asking a more serious question:

Why do we seem to allow people who don't reside in NZ to get involved in our National Politics? Surely NZ Citizenship AND being a current NZ resident should both be mandatory for leadership roles in political parties,

FWIW, you're (with some minor exceptions) qualified to be an MP if you're qualified to vote. And the eligibility for voting is pretty lightweight. You're entitled to vote if you're a citizen or permanent resident, AND (at some stage, not right before the election) you've lived in New Zealand for more than a year AND you've been in NZ (even for a visit) at some stage in the last 3 years (citizens) or last 12 months (PRs).

It think this is probably right? If you're on an OE for a few years, you're still allowed to vote. If you've been gone a decade without a visit, you're not. But maybe it would be better to tighten up at least a little those who can stand for parliament.

Further reading for those that are interested: sections 47, 74 and 80 of the Electoral Act.

AFAIK you need to be a citizen not just a permanent resident to stand for Parliament.

I was thinking of offering my services as leader - until I heard this.

They had some real prospect for the future-
Going from a party that started badly, but could actually have a future now since they have gotten rid of Kim and Hone Harawira. But instead they are going down the path of conspiracy and stupidity.

Just dumb.

Watch the playing with people's names please folks.

As you were...

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Geektastic:

Does membership come with a free Tin Foil Hat instead of a baseball cap?

Foil baseball cap best of both worlds.

But it only works if you also have your foil hoodie up, wear those jeans that make the wearer look like they have soiled themselves and refer to the 'youff' vote.

I wonder if this special person is intelligent enough to see the irony in seeking asylum in Russia, where the acts she imagines she is being persecuted for are actually illegal and punished with imprisonment: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2015/12/Russia-Peaceful-activist-sentenced-under-repressive-new-law-must-be-released/

Whereas, in NZ, they are tolerated.

As in many countries, there are two dominant parties. But a minority party can make a difference. Maori, NZ First, Dunne's one. But, good to get rid of the marketing hype ones, but as you say, its stupidity. Get real, get honest, and get votes. Make a difference. We can all read conspiracy.com ourselves if required.

You obviously are a beginner. You'd read Infowars for real conspiracies...
