Aaah - those crucibles of contemporary conservative ideology.

The former, a kind of a binary rorschach test - where if you think you can make sense out of the insane irrational ramblings of the afflicted - when the sum total is no more than a dirty inkblot stain on humanity - then you're quite possibly over the edge / at risk of being dragged fully into the abyss.

As for /r/The_Donald, the sheer hypocrisy of creating a public forum for those afflicted with the alt:right disease, pack of conspiracy theorists sharing the mass delusion that "the "swamp/globalists/liberals" have conspired to snuff out their first amendment right to free speech. But wait - on that forum any post critical in any way of Donald J Trump results in deletion of the post and a ban for the person posting it. It's an echo-chamber for the terminally stupid. That includes Trump - who's tweeted memes that originated from /r/The_Donald posts.

Take a look at some of the posts on Breitbart.

The posters are quite obviously a lot more deranged than the shooter. I'm sure glad they live on a different continent. Just a shame it's not a different planet

They're now saying he was found due to the smoke alarm going off.

I could well believe that, in the chaos it would be pretty difficult to spot somebody firing from a 32nd floor balcony.

I heard one argument thrown around by US gun nuts: "if more people had guns, they'd be able to defend themselves."

I'm going to use a figure of 0.9 square meters for one side of surface area per person, and guess there were about 24,000 people attending the festival.

That means to hit a person he had to shoot a bullet in about a target larger than 2 rugby fields.

He was shooting at least 11 shots per minute, and it was 72 minutes before the police breached his room.

No concert goer was allowed anything larger than a medium backpack, so no concert goer probably had a scoped rifle on site, even at a country music event.

But let's be unrealistic, and say that 12,000 people had handguns, and everyone knew his position instantly, and took their handguns, and attempted to shoot back at the hotel.

Considering it was after 10 pm, how many shots would have hit the sniper and how many would have landed in other guest's hotel rooms, or even missed the hotel entirely, and starting raining down throughout Las Vegas?

If there is a bright side, it's that the US bill making it way to Trump's desk to make it easier to own silencers hasn't passed yet.

Imagine the chaos if no one heard the shots over the loud music, only saw people falling down?

In my opinion, it is tasteless and insensitive to politicise this tragedy. Especially while the bodies are still warm.

This was horrifying, brutal and devastating for so many people from all walks of life. To be using it as another opportunity to make a snide dig at Trump (as if anyone is short of more appropriate opportunities to do that!) or to push an agenda of any sort... Well, lets just say it makes me very sad.

Don't worry, this thing was already politicised the moment Sarah Huckabee Sanders decided to use a press gathering to speak about this event to gratuitously proselytize by dribbling on and on from the bible when some of those who died or were injured undoubtedly were not Christians. Oh and let's not forget that this is a President who has clearly made his bed with the NRA. People can argue about the effectiveness of gun control in specific cases but there is simply no reasonable argument to be had against the proposition that the extremely over-permissive gun laws in America allowed this nutbag to gather up an arsenal of ridiculous proportions far too easily. Moreover, there is also no reasonable argument to be had against the proposition that America suffers disproportionately from these kinds of mass shootings, even when compared to broadly similar western countries that also have high gun ownership rates but much tougher gun laws.

Hmm I was under the impression that full auto weapons are illigal to have since the 80s in the usa looking at the footage that was full auto no mistake.

Another sad day for the world honestly I doubt anti gun laws would have helped the continent is saturated in firearms and Americans don't want it.

Hmm I was under the impression that full auto weapons are illigal to have since the 80s in the usa looking at the footage that was full auto no mistake.

Another sad day for the world honestly I doubt anti gun laws would have helped the continent is saturated in firearms and Americans don't want it.

It's pretty easy to get them - or even to alter something like a civilian AR15 that is not fully auto to be semi auto if you have gunsmithing skills.

There's a place in Vegas where you can go and pay to shoot all kinds of crazy stuff as a night out. Just about any gun you ever saw in a movie, they have.

I'm going to hazard a guess that someone prepared to commit mass murder is not going to be too concerned that his suppressor is technically illegal...!

It would not be feasible to suppress a weapon effectively to fire that many rounds: it would burn out the baffles in the suppressor and cease to be effective very quickly at that rate of fire.
