I swear Hoskings and Jones must be related, they are equally objectionable.

get over it guys and gals....its free speech. If you don't like what someone says dont watch/read it. Simple. In many ways what he said was right imo.

Hate speech and speech inciting racial unrest is not part of free speech. If you believe that was he said was right then frankly you have a disturbing issue.

So anything you disagree with is a hate speech? Hmm.

Suggesting someone might mow your lawn is no more hate speech than a joke about Irishmen or Australians.

I think your sensitivity meter needs calibrating, Mike...

no it does not. My Mokopuna was very upset at the inferences and content of that writing. Coming from a gent that has a "title" which is supposed to carry Mana and authority such speeches gives approval to racists for their actions and beliefs. NZ already has a disturbing level of racism and someone

in Jones position should know better. It was not funny like all jokes belittling race, creed, gender, religion and disability. It was a disgraceful racist outburst.

Another thought occurs - there was widespread demand that Sir Douglas Graham lose his knighthood as well. Sir Bob arguably hasn't even done anything illegal here (although that may remain to be seen). But I don't recall tens of thousands of people asking for Sir Ngata Love to be stripped of his.

So which is worse? Saying bad things about Maori or stealing from them?

Didnt Jones really just say that he was not really in favour of the billions pumped into everything Maori exclusively every year? Wasnt the rest of what he said in jest?

Maybe someone should start a petition about removing the knighthood from Sir Ngatata Love who didnt just say offending words, he spent time in jail for his offence.

I just re-read the full text of Jones' comments and I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. I didn't happen to find the piece funny or clever (unlike some other things he has done) but I don't see how it is racist, either. It is pure satire, turning something around to provoke a response. The idea of having Maori wait on (presumably) white people does evoke an uncomfortable suggestion of slavery in America. I think it is tasteless but not something to be taken seriously. Everyone is entitled to respond to this in whatever manner they deem appropriate, but I still don't have a huge problem with it. He is just an old fart spouting off. Lots of those in the world.

Try talking to the targets of these attituded, jibes and so called humour and you may find a different story.

So that will be all of Australia, all of Ireland, all of England, all of Scotland, all of Wales? Newfoundland (the Canadian joke equivalent of Ireland)? etc etc.

Maybe it's a NZ thing - the rest of us have been taking the mick out of each other for so long we regard it as banter not offensive racism. When someone burns down your house because they don't like your race, that's racism. When they claim the English are responsible for deliberately murdering New Zealanders by sending them to Gallipoli (something which I have personally been accused of more than once, despite not being born then and despite it being patent nonsense) or they write a newspaper article intended to be satire that falls flat, that isn't racism, that's just human interchange.

If there is any fault, the fault lies with the Editor who approved publication for not being plumbed into the snowflake zeitgeist and saying to Bob Jones "Thanks for the article Bob - I had a chuckle, but I am not sure it will go down too well; would you mind terrible re-writing it or writing about something else?"
