and you'd be happy to have your rates bill doubled or tripled to fix it then.
cant easily fix issues from 50+ years ago
cant magic wand infrastructure to fix the issue, at zero cost .

Rather than waste more money making the entities why doesn't central government loan the money needed to local councils and take the money back via tax? They are going to spend the money anyway

There's any number of examples of this with councils.

They aren't going to fix these issues anytime soon - if they raise rates to pay for it they get booted out at the next election. They also are largely indebted to the eyeballs and can't easily raise money.

If only there was another option that isn't "seize control of the assets from the ratepayers who paid for them and maintain them and insert another level of governance between them and the actual running and building of the infrastructure".

I maintain: You can't say Local Govt is responsible for not meeting population demand loaded onto them by Central Govt without Central Govt providing the extra infrastructure funding to sustain that population, and then use it as a justification for Central Govt to take over the process. You're putting the cart before the horse, and then when it doesn't go anywhere, insisting that adding more carts will solve all our problems.

Meanwhile faeces run down the street of the capital. Having a whinge that it’s central governments fault doesn’t solve that problem.

The discussion here is over-complicating the issue. The Three Waters Reform won't happen because it's more efficient, or because it provides a better level of service, or if it costs more or less. These considerations are secondary, to the point of being irrelevant. It's all about He Puapua, and the support the present government relies on to retain power under our electoral system. The level of enthusiasm that we see for forcing this proposal through says it all.

I really don't think so. The statement from ACT party Newman above looks inaccurate and over the top to me.
