You mean this? I want to see what policies or changes he's going to bring, but chances are I would still vote for him. I think the did quite well standing in as required during the first lockdown in 2020.

i wonder if this is another Ardern masterstroke.
labour looked down and out and a guaranteed loss in the elections
Chris might make everybody forget why
we will know in October

Perhaps people tired of the softness and kindness and want a more assertive leader. Hipkins is halfway been the soft side and the old white male theme of National, so perhaps a sensible fit.
In any case with politics, its all marketing
I still predict a National win, but its likely to be closer now. See how tangible policies match up, and how the personalties match up.

Quite a few interesting points in that article. The main one is that he isn't a new PM taking over, he will run it his way, so its not just a change of letterhead
Although I am biased for progressive politics in general, and a big fan of Jacinda Ardern, I have no feelings whatsoever about Chris Hipkins. He seems likeable enough and competent at his job, but at this time I am completely neutral towards him as a politician. My feelings will probably change as his tenure progresses.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
If anyone was gong to get a nickmane of Chippie, I would have thought it was Ms Arderrn based on prior work history, but I digress.
Hipkins will remove the "Make Ardern Go Away" sentiment that was becoming rife in gutter politics of the very vocal far right and/or professional shit stirring anti Govt protesters. As demonstrated in this thread and in general street interviews on the news, there is very little negative baggage around Hipkins, that he even drank from a mug at the podium with his "spread your legs" gaffe on it shows he is at least not so far up himself.
No leader would attract me to Labours policies which for the last 5 years have worked hard to divide NZ and remove any semblance of responsibility / consequence for actions, but I suspect he will win back some of labours lost ground, its just whether he takes that from the National/Act pool, or he takes tham back from the Greens and/or other minor parties.
Polls in about 6-8 weeks could get interesting
Yes, looks like Carmel will be the deputy. So what will Grant do now? Still Finance minister (only)?

Arguably he is the only capable finance minister from all parties. He didnt want PM, so if he was "only"the Minister of Finance, thats a still a big deal
Fair enough, that will make October a slam dunk.

networkn: Can we just leave the swearing out of these discussions? I feel they are already plenty abrasive enough. I'd hardly a saint but just feels... Unnecessary.
Sorry, who is swearing? Your last 2 sentences dont make sense, I'll put that down to typos/spellcorrect

You could have just replied with why you disagree? An example or two of what you think he has done better than anyone else?
Sure. You stated that Hipkins is moderately capable, the media sees otherwise
GR he IMO has performed very very well. Like Hipkins who we all know has a right leaning has supported businesses, so the wage subsidy could easily have been, sorry its tough, if you become unemployed when the businesses fail in lockdown we will pay you the dole. Same for failed businesses. Not the case. Had that been the case you have a depression, pure and simple. Was his direction correct? Who knows, but every other country had to support the economy, so seems ok to me. There was little alternative. Businesses dont rule NZ. Neither do workers, you need both
As to my brief comment, you disregard Robertson and you disregard Hipkins. Plus Hipkins while only moderately capable is not now a Minister of a portfolio. Fair points. So, hence my comment that October is a slam dunk, i.e easy win for National
