I have zero interest. I was brought up with the Royal family, the Queen, seen her close up. Amazing. She ruled when the Commonwealth ruled, and over the decades she managed it as countries moved away, to the point where there was no ruling. It became a Commonwealth of independent countries like NZ, that maintained ties. Family. She has gone, so has her legacy. While I have no issues with Charles, he is just now realising his dream to be King. He has no legacy. Without QEII its now a private individual family in the limelight. No more. Medieval times it was No.1, thats reduced over the years and decades and centuries. QEII was one of a VERY small number people that stood out. That is no more, leaving the Royal Family as a part of history, with zero control, just the last remnants of an important legacy for many of us. Sad thing is, is that they will cling to this remnant of importance, rather than let it lie as an huge part of history that has ended.

Because it's the system that would involve as little constitutional upset as possible. Just call the GG president and cut the monarchy cord.

President signs legislation into effect and opens hospitals. Life goes on.

IMO a President would sit under a Constitution just as we sit under the GG. If election rules are met, then 1. President rules like a PM, 2. GG gives standard Royal Assent, same deal

President or PM don't know everything, thats why there are SME's as part of the public service, who advise the lawmakers.

Rule ? Hmmm, brings up the question, when was the last time any British Monarch Ruled ?

I expect King Edward would have just told the nation to 'suffer in their jocks' about Wallace Simpson, if he had the capability to Rule ?

My rubber stamp thinks it runs things, but when I slam it down hard it knows who is really the boss.

Apparently, as from my birthday 1649. The ruling by a monarchy ceased. Surprised about that. IMO the influence of the Monarchy remained high throughout QEII's reign. She oversaw the reduction of the British Empire. While having basically zero power, there was a strong influence, steady hand. Charles, no. To me he takes on a job the Queen has completed, what he has been building up to. Its now just a private family with family issues. It was before, but the Monarch was someone  extremely special. I wont be watching, and I am a Royalist, but that era has ended.

If we had a President it would have to be entirely ceremonial with no political power whatsoever. Maybe we could have a TV programme like The Voice and the winner takes the post to trivialise it even more. Electing a President would be extremely devisive in this country in these social media driven times.

If anyone can quote a country where having a President who has political power has worked out well I'd be interested to hear it.

I'm ambivalent when it comes to the monarchy. Charles and Camilla, partly because of their ages and the environment they were born into, feel like they come from a bygone era and generate very little empathy with the general public. That's not their fault. It's possibly down to societies obsession with all things youthful. If it was the coronation of Wills and Kate or, god forbid, Harry and Meghan, public sentiment might be considerably different.

I'm pretty sure I'll see a King William in my lifetime. As you say, the general public might be a bit more interested in that, as opposed to a King Charles.

It's kind of weird that someone who is way past retirement age is only just starting out on his first job.

Purely ceremonial and historic, unrelated to governance.

Im white, European descent, first 4 ships or the next ships. But while I embrace royalty as in QEII, its now well past the use by date. QEII concluded the British Empire so it became like minded countries that have a bond. If she were here, that continues, but with Charles it all changes. It becomes, IMO, a classy version of the Kardashians. It has nil value without QEII. There are very few people that we can embrace like her, so that period is now over. Its 6-30pm, so I assume King Charles III was coronated...

Watched it now, first one I've seen in my life (and for my boys too). Probably won't be the last, however - even if he lives as long as his Mum, he'll only be king for 23 years, and I plan to still be around by then 🤞
