Frankly at the moment, I would argue that ideology is irrelevant and the ability to actually do something, anything that a party promises is more important than whatever they are promising.

Take West Auckland for example. Has seen plans scaled back from Light Rail by 2028 to 'Light Rail sometime' to 'Not sure if it'll be light rail eventually but you'll get a busway' to 'you're getting some bus lanes' to 'your bus lanes have been delayed two years and we're not building anything else before 2030 at best'.

The Westgate precint has also just been included in the high-rise development changes. So that's next to the transport corridor the current government wanted to build but just quietly backs away from.

What is National's proposal? Who knows, because they don't care. I can only assume it is to avoid embarrassment for having selected Jake Bezzant for the area and not wanting to pretend Bennett used to have an iron-grip over it, so it's easier to pretend it doesn't exist.

End result for voters: No infrastructure, no accountability, no change, country stagnates and living standards go backwards. If it wasn't for Chris Penk National would be almost invisible in Auckland.

Yes, but at what point does something change.

National can't even captain their own ship, let alone right the course of a ship that seems determined to run itself aground.

Wholesale staffing change, from the top down. Actually have a vision rather than economic stewardship which means do nothing and show off the surpluses. Have a vision to attend to the many issues this country has. The only detail they show to us is negating everyone else's

What is National's proposal?

I would hazard a guess their typical, go-to one: "more roads".

Wait for the shower head / light bulb moment.

When centralisation gets too much.

When the 'I know what's best for you' talk goes too far.

Her quip about him leaving two leaders ago actually does more to bring home his points about the failing leadership of the party than refute it.

And as I select this subforum right at the top of the page there's an ad for National with their "demand the debate"...thing. What is that about again? I'd never click on an ad for National.

The no1 problem nation has...

They forgot that they need Joe Average in order to be voted in.
And need a leader who Joe Average can relate to .
They seem stuck in the old Nat dogma of Business's first .

A party aimed at Business & right wingers wont get the Joe Average votes they desperately need.
As Labor move to the more extreme Left, Nats should be moving in to take the Middle of the road that labor is leaving behind .
Moving into more Right politically, wont help them .

So another week another culture wars attack. It's not working, I don't know why they continue to bother.

In contrast they have come up with a coherent and clear immigration policy that might get some traction if it isn't drowned out by the nonsense.

The government is profoundly vulnerable but while they keep playing the race card National is going nowhere.

Voting against leg one of the conversion therapy ban is a huge mistake.

If the bill is deficient then send it to select committee and make changes there.

I won't vote for them so long as they hold this stance, nor will many other liberals outside the party cocoon.

National are spending their efforts on culture war crap rather than issues that actually effect New Zealanders. This is another symptom of their malaise.

A good example of how to loose a large portion of what you have left of your voter base in 3 easy steps.

  1. Vote against conversion therapy bill
  2. Keep Longfellow
  3. Have a board with no rural members cause it's all about the white collars.

Dumb arses 🤣
