One party has a longer track record of genuine negotiation and engagement. That's for sure.
For sure; the only reason Iran was going down the path of increased enrichment over the last few years was because effing Trump tore down the deal they previously agreed to (and even US intelligence said they were sticking to) because a black man made it. After that, why would anyone possibly think that Iran would agree to a new deal while Trump or his plausible successors were in power in the US? They may be hardcore theocratic bastards but they aren't completely stupid.

IRGC's greatest frustration at the moment would be Trump delaying so long the 'Boots on Ground' and 'forcing the strait'.
Pretty sure they look forward to blood revenge on an opponent who can't take casualties to degree they can.
As ANZAC day approaches, expect this will be still going on.
Trump who's only study of history is a collection of Hitler's speeches by his bedside.
Invoking Winston Churchill, while taking about 'forcing the narrows' and boots on the ground.
Israel at the moment is more realistic indicating this has a lot more weeks to go.

Mark Rutte also expressed full support for the military campaign against Iran.
I think Mark Rutte needs to pull his head out of daddy's arse.

gzt: CNN takes a look back in time at the late 80's "Tanker War" in the Strait of Hormuz:
USA Navy arrived to support the belligerent Saddam Hussain's Iraq - against Iran. USA Navy suffered two ships destroyed and very nearly lost them at sea. One was destroyed by some very keen friendly fire from Iraq and maybe does not count so much.

Finally there has been some positive news with Trump backing away from the power plant attacks and saying that there are talks to end hostilities.
I'll believe it when it's done but at least it's a step in the right direction.
And Iran are denying there are such talks. It's rather frustrating that you cannot trust either party here to be reliable.
If thats true, that there are no talks, then this is a signal to Iran that Trump no longer wishes to continue the war and wants to calm the markets.
This would encourage Iran to continue the war to achieve a better position at the table when that time comes. The Iranians might hope that continuation of the war and ensuing economic pain in the US will affect Trump at the ballot box.
I am sure they are not the only country to wish for regime change.

USS Samuel B. Roberts was not destroyed. It did get catastrophically damaged by an Iranian mine and almost sank.

Mark is incredibly slippery. He knows exactly how to handle Trump without getting bitten. He's not a head of state, but a kind of diplomatic harlequin (in a positive sense). 😁
I get the feeling that the US pause in the stupidity is to allow time to rearm, rotate personnel and to repair assets. Then they will resume the insanity
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
