freitasm:

That subpoena of wrong person is either incompetence or just trying to get more delays.

Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Remember this was his primary lawyer in the past.

“Somebody said to me ‘Alina, would you rather be smart or pretty?’ and I said ‘Oh easy, pretty… I can fake being smart’.

Don't piss off the judge. If this is a ploy, he won't be fooled and he will be mightily pissed off. I think it is far more likely to be just stupid incompetence, which seems to define a lot of Trump's legal actions.

The NY Times -  Stephen Colbert Mocks Trump’s Failed Bid to Delay Hush-Money Trial

Colbert said Donald Trump’s lawyers wanted “an impartial jury who knew nothing about the events in America over the last nine years.”

So are you saying members of the jury can’t have seen any news about Donald Trump’s crimes?  His crimes are the news!

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon joked about Trump visiting a chicken fast food chain called "Chick-fil-A"

“Get this. Today, former President Trump held a fundraiser in Atlanta, and on his way to the event, he stopped at a local Chick-fil-A”

Footage of the visit shows Trump ordering 30 milkshakes “and some chicken,” telling staff, “We’re going to take care of the customers.”

Fallon wasn’t sure if Trump could foot the bill, given his cash troubles.

“After Trump placed the order, the cashier said, ‘Uh, we’re gonna need to see the money first,’” he quipped. “‘We heard some things.’”

Seth Meyers:

"Trump filed 10 motions to delay on just one case. Combine that with his three other criminal trials, his civil cases, his various appeals, and he is piling up legal bills at a truly shocking rate

Donald Trump has spent -- are you ready for this number? -- more than $100 million on legal bills since 2021.

$230,000 is a huge amount of money.

That's how much Donald Trump's 'Save America PAC' has spent per day on the former president's legal bills in February.

First of all, it's very funny that you have to pay all the lawyers for all your criminal trials through something called 'Save America'. 'Save America' from what? You?

Also, $230,000 a day. For comparison's sake, you can buy a pristine 1967 Chevy Corvette for roughly the same price, which is perfect because that's Joe Biden's favorite car.

Biden should pull that thing up in front of the courthouse every day. 'Hey, Donny, what'd you spend your $230K on?'"

Every day that Trump drops have much money on lawyers, you should have to hear Joe Biden say the words 'vroom, vroom, motherf___er.

The Daily Beast -  Trump Bond’s Cayman Connection ‘Stinks to High Heaven’

12 April 2024

Former industry regulators and investigators told The Daily Beast that Knight Specialty Insurance Company being financially backed by a firm based in the Cayman Islands should raise eyebrows at the New York AG’s office - particularly because companies frequently organize in the Cayman Islands not just to avoid taxes, but also to minimize visibility into its business practices, avoid more stringent U.S. regulations, and make liability harder should things go wrong. ...

The risk here is the company will not have the liquidity to pay on the bond when demanded, and the beneficiary of this bond, the New York AG, may not have a direct claim against the reinsurer,” said former New York Department of Financial Services superintendent Maria Vullo.

That the reinsurer is in the Cayman Islands compounds this issue as it is a non-U.S. jurisdiction, which makes collection very difficult.”

Sounds like a perfect financial environment for The Don.  😁

Trump’s wake-up call

Washington Post, 12 April 24

EDIT

Reuters - Trump's hush money trial will not be delayed because of publicity, judge rules

13 April 2024

NEW YORK, April 12 (Reuters) - The New York judge overseeing Donald Trump's hush money criminal case rejected the former U.S. president's bid to delay Monday's scheduled trial on the ground that substantial pre-trial publicity would make the proceedings unfair.

Trump had sought an indefinite delay, saying media coverage was prejudiced against him, and finding an acceptable jury in Manhattan would be tough because the borough was "overwhelmingly biased" against him.

But in a decision on Friday, Justice Juan Merchan said an indefinite adjournment was "not tenable."

"The situation defendant finds himself in now is not new to him and (is) at least in part, of his own doing," Merchan wrote.

Well, if past performance is anything to go by where he exaggerates everything by a factor of 2 or 3....8 inches..... and we go down from there.

Atlanta is 39% white alone, 47% African American alone

African American reporter: Why should the people of Atlanta vote for you?

Trump: "Because I've done more for the people of Atlanta than any other president by far I've done more for the black community than any other president since Abraham Lincoln, and maybe including Abraham Lincoln frankly, but since Abraham Lincoln"

1973 The US Department of Justice sued the Trump Management Corporation for violating the Fair Housing Act. Federal officials found evidence that Trump had refused to rent to Black tenants and lied to Black applicants about whether apartments were available, among other accusations.

1980s Kip Brown, a former employee at Trump’s Castle: “When Donald and Ivana came to the casino, the bosses would order all the black people off the floor. It was the eighties, I was a teenager, but I remember it: They put us all in the back.”

1989 In a controversial case that’s been characterized as a modern-day lynching, four Black teenagers and one Latino teenager — the “Central Park Five” — were accused of attacking and raping a jogger in New York City. Trump immediately took charge in the case, running an ad in local papers demanding, “BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!”

The teens’ convictions were later vacated after they spent seven to 13 years in prison, and the city paid $41 million in a settlement to the teens.

But Trump in October 2016 said he still believes they’re guilty, despite the DNA evidence to the contrary.

1991 Trump: “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. … I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.”

1992 The Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino had to pay a $200,000 fine because it transferred Black and women dealers off tables to accommodate a big-time gambler’s prejudices.

and so on

He was referring to the wrong president. What he was trying to say was "I've done more for the black community than Jefferson Davis".
