kingdragonfly: Speaking of which, just now a monologue from Jimmy Kimmel.

Trump is still furious at Jimmy Kimmel for reading Trump's Truth post on air 5 weeks ago. It got 15 minutes of fame, and everyone moved one.

Well almost everyone; Trump is still trying to spin the story, similar to Old Man Yells at Cloud

That was hilarious. Trump will be furious! 😂

So does jury selection continue tomorrow, or is that part all done now?

Trump mafia techniques work on one juror who left because she was intimitated.

Luckily New York is used to dealing with vengeful and unscrupulous crime bosses, and had already sent a second summons for 6,000 more jurors, even before this happened.

I guess Trump will be getting more "Rip Don Winkle" sleepy-time in court as he's forced to attend more juror questioning.

RNZ NZ: Trump's hush money criminal trial loses two jurors, five remain

The judge overseeing former US President Donald Trump's criminal trial dismissed two jurors on Thursday, as lawyers struggled to assemble a panel of 12 jurors and six alternates for one of the most high-profile trials in American history.

Justice Juan Merchan excused one juror after prosecutors said he may not have disclosed prior brushes with the law. Merchan did not specify why he dismissed that juror.

The judge had previously excused a juror who said she felt intimidated because some personal information had been made public. She said family, friends and colleagues had contacted her after deducing she was on the jury.

Apparently they now have all 12 jurors, at least for the moment. Still working on the alternates.

Trump just made his post-trial appearance, waving sheafs of printouts around that he claims show criticism for the prosecution from a wide range of media. He looks and sounds increasingly desperate. He also looks very tired.

In other words, the American equivalent of British landed gentry, educated at elite boarding schools, and instilled with the belief that they'll eventually be the lord of the family castle complete with servants. Think Jacob Rees-Mogg and his ilk.

The difference is the British aristocracy is imbued with what is sometimes referred to as 'breeding'. Growing up born to be superior, they also acquire hard to define qualities and mannerisms that give them a subtle air of difference. This is something new money like Trump can never achieve. He is irredeemably crude, vulgar, unsophisticated, ignorant, and just plain dumb. He walks on the wrong side of the queen. He is loud and obnoxious. He is the worst kind of brash American. The cultured people may tolerate having him around sometimes for his clownish amusement value, but they will never let him in.

You missed out the "in" at the start of the word.

(It's hypothesised that the reason no European country ever banned marriages among close, often very close, relatives is because the nobility relied on it so much).

I'm not saying you're wrong about Trump but centuries of 'breeding' also produce characters like this barmy lot.

At this point I was expecting a link to this.  "He doesn't know when he's beat, he doesn't know when he's winning either, he has no sort of sensory apparatus known to man".

Couple of other Trump-related stories I found around the web today:

https://abovethelaw.com/2024/04/donald-trump-stand-up-jury-hush-money/ >> if Trump doesn't stand up when the jury walks in (like everyone else does in the courtroom), will it work against him?

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-gets-bad-legal-news-dc-while-new-york-court-1891948 >> Trump tries to stop yet another court case. Yet again he fails.

also: https://www.newsweek.com/joe-biden-gaining-donald-trump-florida-according-new-poll-1891935 >> could Trump's lead in Florida be on the way out? Are people getting sick of MAGA there?

bonus: https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-falling-behind-joe-biden-battleground-state-campaigning-1889429 >> this one is pretty obvious, bit hard for the orange buffoon to do any campaigning when he's stuck in a courthouse because of, well, what he did 🙄
