Trump Media Group says stock market is being manipulated to drive down their stock price

The Ring of Fire

Shares of the Trump Media Group (Truth Social) stock are continuing to lose their value, and now the company says they've figured out what's happening.

According to a letter from CEO Devin Nunes, the stock market is being intentionally manipulated to drive down the price of their company's stock.

This makes absolutely no sense, and Nunes' logic behind his claim is even more laughable.

But they will do anything to pretend that the company is not on life support

The NY Times - Trump and Attorney General Agree on Minor Changes to $175 Million Bond

22 April 2024

The New York attorney general’s office and representatives for Donald J. Trump agreed in court on Monday to slightly modify the terms of a $175 million bond posted by the former president in his civil fraud case after the state questioned the qualifications of the company that provided it and sought to have it rejected.

The deal will keep the bond largely unchanged, with the $175 million in cash that Mr. Trump deposited as collateral remaining in a money-market account, while adding new terms stipulating that the $175 million must remain as cash, and not be transferred into mutual funds, for example.

The two sides also agreed to give the California firm that provided the bond, Knight Specialty Insurance Company, exclusive control over the money-market account.

SaltyNZ: Unfortunately there's zero chance he will be called to testify by the defense

It's not at all uncommon for psychopaths/sociopaths to fire their incompetent defence lawyers and take over their defence themselves.  Unfortunately since their own and the court's opinions of their legal brilliance differs markedly, this strategy tends to fail catastrophically.

It would be kinda cool to see Trump try this though.

kingdragonfly: Forbes: Will Trump’s Jurors Be Stuck In A Hotel? What To Know About Sequestration—And Why It’s Unlikely.
...
Mitchell Epner, a former federal prosecutor currently at Kudman Trachten Aloe Posner LLP, told Forbes he doubts a jury would be sequestered since prospective jurors were not given a warning in advance.

He noted that the jury could still be sequestered at a later time, such as during deliberation

He bemoaned that possibility, calling it a “deprivation of liberty” and the “functional equivalent of putting the jury in jail.”
...

Don't know about that. Whatever the case I hope the jury get police protection through the whole thing and the assigned officers are vetted as thoroughly as the jury. Potentially this is as bad as a mafia trial.

Trump posted this while the judge was considering his penalty for recent gag order violations!

Literally, asking for trouble.   😦

Maybe he really wants to be in jail, in the hope of gaining public sympathy.

Or maybe his psychiatric problems are getting worse.

I don't understand, he has said numerous times he would be happy to take the stand in his defense. Surely he can say his piece then?

Political JunkieGasbag   (free link)

22 April 2024

For a second week in a row, a silenced Donald Trump is forced to listen to what others think of him in court, writes Claire Bond Potter.

He is a “gasbag,” ... a person who is almost physically unable to enter a public space without dominating it verbally.

But Trump is extreme in this regard: grammatically mangled, cognitively garbled, dishonest, unpunctuated and verbally inaccurate, his declarations are a firehose of gasbaggery.

And one of the benefits of filling the air with your own opinions is that you never have to listen to, or think about, anyone else’s views.

Not surprising, but if you ever wondered "What does someone who's taken way too much cocaine sounds like?" this video of Donald Trump Jr will answer.

Of course, everything Donald Trump Jr less interesting than listening to a 10 year discuss "Smens" scented pens

Listening to him talking like a machine gun is funny.

Could be compared to a New Yorker getting a jury of his peers in Alabama.

It's like being a pickpocket at a mixed martial arts event, and complaining of your injuries when caught. It's hard to be sympathetic.

How Did They Choose a Jury for A President?

The Washington Post - Opinion -  Trump was going to dominate the courtroom. Instead, he is shrinking.

by Jennifer Rubin

(conclusion)

23 April 2024

The trial has barely begun.  One wonders how Trump will hold up.  The time and energy expended in the courtroom, the humiliating lectures and the recapitulation of his misdeeds have already taken their toll.

Whether he wigs out when witnesses such as Michael Cohen take the stand or keeps running afoul of the gag order (both strong possibilities), Trump’s temper tantrums only underscore his dilemma.

Unable to mask his emotions in the midst of a narcissist’s worst nightmare, Trump has never looked so small, so weary and so feeble.

Previous quotes from Trump

"This crime wave ends when Donald Trump becomes president. Believe me."

"Crime and violence is an attack on the poor and will never be accepted in a Trump administration."

"I have a message for all of you. The crime and violence that today afflicts America will soon - and I mean very soon - come to an end."

"It is essential that we aggressively pursue all criminal offenders, especially those who commit these heinous crimes against women - and seek the maximum penalties under the law."

"Our country is now a cesspool of crime. We have blood, death and suffering on a scale once unthinkable because of the Democrat Party’s effort to destroy and dismantle law enforcement all throughout America."

The Hill: Trump brushed off warnings he’d be charged in documents case: Unsealed filings

Former President Trump brushed off warnings he could be charged for keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence, promising to pardon one of his now co-defendants if charges were filed, according to new court documents.

The details, laid out in unsealed documents as part of a broader legal battle in the Mar-a-Lago case, lay bare the candid advice from an unnamed witness as well as other details about the federal investigation.

The witness, identified only as Person 16 in the documents, told Trump he should cooperate with federal investigators looking for classified documents, saying doing so could prevent him from being indicted.

“Whatever you have, give everything back. Let them come here and get everything,” the witness said they told Trump. “Don’t give them a noble reason to indict you, because they will.”

But Trump seemed unfazed, according to the witness
...
The interview counters a defense from Trump that there was a standard order to declassify anything the former president had, with the witness saying they heard that for the first time only after Trump was facing charges.

The witness said they urged Trump multiple times to return the records being sought then by the National Archives, telling Trump something to the effect of it “was not worth all that aggravation.”

The witness also said they had urged Trump’s children to give him the same warning, noting that the former president “sometimes needed to be messaged the same thing from multiple people close to him.”

“There are issues with the boxes. They belong to the government, talk to your dad and about giving them back” the witness said he had told Trump’s children.

The witness also addressed conversations with Trump’s valet, Walt Nauta, who has since been charged with aiding the former president in moving boxes as well as for lying to investigators.

The witness said Nauta was told by those close to Trump that the documents case was politically motivated and “much ado about nothing” and that even if he faced charges for lying to the bureau, Trump would pardon him in 2024.
