kingdragonfly: ... I'd bet repo-king "Knight Specialty Insurance Company" [wish] that they never met Trump. ...
22 April 2024
The New York attorney general’s office and representatives for Donald J. Trump agreed in court on Monday to slightly modify the terms of a $175 million bond posted by the former president in his civil fraud case after the state questioned the qualifications of the company that provided it and sought to have it rejected.
The deal will keep the bond largely unchanged, with the $175 million in cash that Mr. Trump deposited as collateral remaining in a money-market account, while adding new terms stipulating that the $175 million must remain as cash, and not be transferred into mutual funds, for example.
The two sides also agreed to give the California firm that provided the bond, Knight Specialty Insurance Company, exclusive control over the money-market account.

SaltyNZ: Unfortunately there's zero chance he will be called to testify by the defense
It's not at all uncommon for psychopaths/sociopaths to fire their incompetent defence lawyers and take over their defence themselves. Unfortunately since their own and the court's opinions of their legal brilliance differs markedly, this strategy tends to fail catastrophically.
It would be kinda cool to see Trump try this though.

...
Mitchell Epner, a former federal prosecutor currently at Kudman Trachten Aloe Posner LLP, told Forbes he doubts a jury would be sequestered since prospective jurors were not given a warning in advance.
He noted that the jury could still be sequestered at a later time, such as during deliberation
He bemoaned that possibility, calling it a “deprivation of liberty” and the “functional equivalent of putting the jury in jail.”

Trump posted this while the judge was considering his penalty for recent gag order violations!
Literally, asking for trouble. 😦
Maybe he really wants to be in jail, in the hope of gaining public sympathy.
Or maybe his psychiatric problems are getting worse.

I don't understand, he has said numerous times he would be happy to take the stand in his defense. Surely he can say his piece then?
Political Junkie - Gasbag (free link)
22 April 2024
For a second week in a row, a silenced Donald Trump is forced to listen to what others think of him in court, writes Claire Bond Potter.
He is a “gasbag,” ... a person who is almost physically unable to enter a public space without dominating it verbally.
But Trump is extreme in this regard: grammatically mangled, cognitively garbled, dishonest, unpunctuated and verbally inaccurate, his declarations are a firehose of gasbaggery.
And one of the benefits of filling the air with your own opinions is that you never have to listen to, or think about, anyone else’s views.

(conclusion)
23 April 2024
The trial has barely begun. One wonders how Trump will hold up. The time and energy expended in the courtroom, the humiliating lectures and the recapitulation of his misdeeds have already taken their toll.
Whether he wigs out when witnesses such as Michael Cohen take the stand or keeps running afoul of the gag order (both strong possibilities), Trump’s temper tantrums only underscore his dilemma.
Unable to mask his emotions in the midst of a narcissist’s worst nightmare, Trump has never looked so small, so weary and so feeble.
