Rikkitic:

It happened to Hillary!

Rikkitic: In view of the behaviour of Donald Trump in particular and Republicans in general, what happens if Biden loses the popular vote but wins the electoral college? Would they accept such an outcome? Would it mean blood in the streets?

Trump would simultaneously talk it up and talk it down. I would expect a few nutjob incidents but nothing too serious hopefully.

For Biden it would be won one, lost one. Biden puts up a good fight. I can't see that being humiliating at all. But yeah I really hope he doesn't lose.

CNN: Peter Navarro’s get-out-of-jail request is again rejected by the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday for a second time shot down a request from former Trump adviser Peter Navarro to avoid further prison time over his contempt of Congress conviction.

In an emergency request last month, Navarro asked the Supreme Court to let him remain free while he challenged his conviction at the federal appeals court in Washington, DC. Chief Justice John Roberts denied that request on March 18, and Navarro reported to prison the following day.

Attempting a procedural maneuver that has not worked in decades, Navarro [tried and failed again].
...
Two lower courts turned down similar appeals.
...
A Federal chief jJustice Roberts rejected the request with a brief opinion last month. The chief justice said that the federal appeals courts concluded Navarro had forfeited any challenge to the idea that, even if he was entitled to executive privilege,
...
Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison after a jury found him guilty of failing to respond to congressional subpoenas for documents and testimony in the House’s investigation of the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack

Every time I see that bloke's name, it cracks me up as I'm reminded of this 😀

I'm fairly sure that Trump is doing exactly 0 to help this guy out as he sits in prison.

The "USA Today" is very much centrist, middle-of-the-road, and rather bland, news coverage. It's a non-controversial newspaper often given free to hotel guests.

USA Today: Trump's hush money trial reveals his sordid, cynical manipulations behind the scenes
...
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s evidence may be defensible as far as a jury is concerned. But that evidence likely will go a long way to telling in detail − with real-time text messages and even a voice recording of Trump − a seamy story of payoffs to mistresses in an agreement with a tabloid publisher. And all of it will be told in the context of a criminal trial, with witnesses testifying under oath.
...
National Enquirer helped to kill stories unfavorable to Trump
...
Text message is key evidence about election scheme
...
Again, the legal consequences for this sort of real-time insight into Trump’s operation might not matter when it comes to convincing a jury that the former president is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of falsifying business records. And it remains untested whether voters in a general election can and will be moved by learning more unsavory aspects of a man whose unsavory character is well-known and baked into their perception of him.

A made-up example of Trump and advisors on the first amendment, freedom of speech. :)

Politico - Trump quickly fundraises off judge’s contempt ruling in hush money case

30 April

Minutes after the gag order ruling, Trump sent out an email to fundraise from it.

“A Democrat judge JUST HELD ME IN CONTEMPT OF COURT!”

“I was fined $9,000 for 9 gag order violations. THEY WANT TO SILENCE ME!"

"They think they can BLEED ME DRY and SHUT ME UP, but I’ll NEVER stop fighting for YOU.”

The email included a link to donate to the Trump National Committee.

It should be hard to complain about legal expenses after spending a life in crime.

But he is correct; he should have been thrown in jail for contempt instead of getting a tiny fine.

$9.000 is
0.02% of one year's legal expenses, or $60 million, of other people's money paid in 2023.

or to put in perspective, this crooked scheme in his past:

Trump purchased a golf course, and 65 members attempted to resign. The problem is the resignation process could take up to 10 years, and Trump illegally dictated anyone resigning could not get access to the golf facilities or even the restaurant, but must pay dues of at least $9,800/year.

Courthouse News: Trump Golf Course Must Pay $5.7 Million to Ex-Members

A Florida golf course owned by President Donald Trump must repay $5.7 million to 65 former members denied membership refunds after he bought the South Florida club in 2012, a federal judge ruled.

Trump purchased the club from the Ritz Carlton and rebranded it the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter.

According to a 2013 class action filed on 2013, immediately changed changing its terms of membership.
...
The complicated resignation process could take 10 years to complete.

First, resigning members had to request to be added to a waiting list in their membership classification.

After every fifth membership Ritz-Carlton sold in one classification, the person at the top of that resignation list would get their deposit refunded and be removed from the club rolls.

Meanwhile, members on the waiting list were still obligated to pay dues ranging from $9,800 to $21,800 per year.
...
Trump told members on the resignation lists that while they waited to resign they would no longer be allowed club access.

They would still be expected to pay dues until they reached the top of the resignation list. (again up to 10 years)

The members said that by cutting off their access, Trump owed them their deposits within 30 days, citing a clause in their contracts.

When the company refused to abide by this clause, the lead plaintiffs sued.

Summary of Time Magazine article: Trump says he would
  • carry out a deportation operation to remove more than 11 million people from the country

  • use the military to build migrant detention camps

  • let states monitor women's pregnancies and prosecute those who violate abortion bans

  • at his personal discretion withhold funds appropriated by Congress

  • fire any US attorney who wouldn't carry out his order to prosecute

  • possibly pardon for everyone who attacked the capital January 6th

  • possibly not come to the aid of an ally if he felt that country wasn't paying enough

  • gut the Civil Service (non-political long term government workers)

  • close the White House pandemic preparedness office

  • staff his administration only with those who believe the election was stolen from him

Time: How Far Trump Would Go
...
Whether or not he was kidding about bringing a tyrannical end to our 248-year experiment in democracy, I ask him, Don’t you see why many Americans see such talk of dictatorship as contrary to our most cherished principles? Trump says no. Quite the opposite, he insists. “I think a lot of people like it.”

Trump still denying he had sex with porn star Stormy Daniels or former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal .

Despite these two "catch-and-kill" payoff from National Enquirer Pecker, and paid by fixer Michael Cohen

Here's an interview from 6 years ago.

And here's a recent article

ABC News: Who is Karen McDougal and how is she connected to Donald Trump's hush money case?
...
Executives at the National Enquirer contacted McDougal in June 2016 with an exclusive offer to tell her story, though the paper allegedly never intended to publish it, according to prosecutors. The practice is known in the tabloid industry as "catch-and-kill."

American Media Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer, eventually paid McDougal $150,000 and multiple articles published under her byline -- in exchange for her not speaking out about the affair.

AMI made the payment with the understanding that the Trump Organization would reimburse them for the payment, according to prosecutors.
...
AMI Chief Executive David Pecker testified in court that he thought McDougal's story should be purchased because "it would have been very embarrassing to [Trump] and also to his campaign."
...
Pecker also testified about a March 2018 phone call with White House officials Hope Hicks and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, both of whom encouraged him to extend AMI's contract with McDougal.
