Meanwhile, back in Trump Fantasyland ...

Reuters - What guilty verdict? Unfazed Republican donors focus on Trump's polling

May 30 (Reuters) - Major Republican donors say they are likely to keep pumping cash into supporting Donald Trump's presidential run, excited by polls showing him in the lead and undeterred by his unprecedented criminal conviction, according to interviews with around a dozen donors and fundraisers.

Many conservative donors already viewed the New York hush money cash as political persecution, echoing the Republican presidential candidate's claim that Democrats are trying to weaken him ahead of the Nov. 5 election ...

And therein lies the problem, Trump supporters simply don't care about his criminal trials. I can see the election this year playing out like 2016, a deeply flawed (and now convicted felon) Trump up against a deeply flawed Democrat opponent.

So there is a God, after all. Whew.

But...that means there must be a Devil.

Oh, of course...

Great verdict so why am I not jumping up and down? Previous posts answer that.

And that gutless btard hides behind his police guards while all the others in this prosecution/trial have to worry about their safety.

SJB:

Could we change the 'sleeping with a porn actress' in the title to 'paying a porn actress for sex'?

It's a much better description of what happened. And much seedier.

I can see Canada wishing they had a wall, and Mexico glad they have one that they did not have to pay for.

"Sleeping" is inaccurate as I understand it. "Paying a porn actress for sex" implies Daniels engaged in sex with Trump for money which is not the case at all.

I think The Guardian gets extra points for the most factual headline:

"Donald Trump found guilty of hush-money plot to influence 2016 election"

I've edited the subject to reflect this.

Do you think given who he is and who his supporter base are the knowledge of him having sex with a pornstar would have made any difference in 2016?

The prosecution case was based on the coverup actions. They didn't judge him for having sex with a pornstar. They just had to prove he had sex with a pornstar, that he made payments for her to be quiet so he could go through the election and that he tried to hide these payments.

Conversely, I am not sure his support base would bother with that.

Nixon resigned over the coverup. Trump couldn't care less about it, and neither could his supporters. Just look at the entire GOP reaction.

This is the part of this process I'm a bit uncomfortable with. It's fairly clear who Trump is and was back then, it was no secret he had flings with other women, much of which came out prior to the 2016 election. As you have said I don't think there is any chance the Stormy Daniels story would have really made much difference to the election, but no doubt would have placed even more strain on his personal family life. So, was she paid off to keep quiet so it wouldn't hurt his election chances or was she paid off just like he had no doubt paid off other women in his past just to avoid further issues at home?

The words used in communications show he paid off to make sure it didn't hurt his elections chance.
