The NY Times - For Trump, ‘Guilty’ May Not Matter

30 May 2024

[Trump] took his hyperbole and histrionics to new heights, wrongly claiming last week that the Biden administration had authorized his assassination when federal agents raided Mar-a-Lago in search of the classified documents that Trump was keeping there. With a verdict looming, Trump was reminding his supporters and repeating the lesson: I am quarry. I am victim. My predators are ruthless. That’s the only lens through which to view what’s happening. That’s the only relevant prism.

He has persuaded them of that to this point. Why would it change now, especially when he caught the lucky break of having the least damning, least compelling of the four criminal prosecutions against him be the first one up (and almost certainly the only one to go to trial before Election Day)?

It’s the case most easily characterized as an overreaction - as much ado about rutting.

The words used in communications show he paid off to make sure it didn't hurt his elections chance.

To be honest I haven't really followed the trial or the in's and out's, no doubt he is reaping what he has sown over the years. The US is such a mess from the top down, the whole political and justice system is corrupt with money and political influence. The Supreme Court Justice's are all elected due to political leaning's by the government of the day and the s**t just flows downhill from there, what a s**t show.

"This is unprecedented," said @freitasm, BDFL and admin at Geekzone.

"I had to edit our database to make the subject topics longer just to be able to list the bad stuff Donald Trump has been involved with inside the limits of the forum - the two impeachments, the four indictments, the rape liability, the financial fraud conviction and now the guilty verdict on a felony hush-money case where his fixer paid a porn actress to be quiet about a sexual affair that could prevent Donald Trump from being elected if people knew about it. And that sex affair happened while his wife was giving birth or something. If this was a novel, people would say it's too far-fetched to be believable."

You know 💩 is getting serious when the BFDL needs to alter the database tables to support this.

Supreme Court Justices are not elected, they are appointed by the president of the day subject to Senate approval. Three were appointed by Trump and some others seem to favour him.

How about 'Donald Trump, career criminal, former president'?

Yeah, poor wording but you get my point. They are all appointed along political lines. I think the majority on there at the moment would be considered 'conservative', some being appointed by Trump. Even local law enforcement leaders are often elected as well as prosecutors, bizarre system. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to run elections to appoint cops?

Grifter news:

The NY Times - Trump’s campaign donor website crashes after guilty verdict.

WinRed, the payment processor for Republican campaign donations, crashed after former President Donald J. Trump’s felony conviction, a technical issue that his campaign attributed to the number of people trying to donate in the immediate aftermath of the verdict. ...

Mr. Trump began soliciting donations off his felony conviction almost immediately after the verdict was read from the Manhattan courthouse. ...

[The donor website] describes Mr. Trump as a “political prisoner” and called on “TEN MILLION pro-Trump patriots” to donate by the end of the day.

All horribly predictable - Trump might even reach his target.  🙁

So, was she paid off to keep quiet so it wouldn't hurt his election chances or was she paid off just like he had no doubt paid off other women in his past just to avoid further issues at home?

The affair was in 2006. The hush money payment was in 2016, ten years later, and weeks before the election. There is no reasonable conclusion other than that it was the upcoming election that he cared about. If it was his family he cared about, he would have paid the hush money immediately after the affair. Or - just maybe - not had the affair in the first place.

Interesting point, will this make much of a difference? I imagine most of Trump's support is already basically baked in.

And as seen elsewhere... 😄

Slate: The Donald Trump I Saw on The Apprentice

For 20 years, I couldn’t say what I watched the former president do on the set of the show that changed everything. Now I can.
...
Over at Trump National Golf Club, where I am stationed, it is sunny and bright, set against luscious fall colors. I am driven up to the golf club from Manhattan to scout. With me are the other producers, all of whom are men. We meet Trump at one of the homes he keeps for himself on the grounds of the club.

“Melania doesn’t even know about this place,” he says out loud to us, snickering, implying that the home’s function is as his personal lair for his sexual exploits, all of which are unknown to his then-fiancée Melania Knauss.

We are taken around the rest of the club’s property and told what to feature on camera and what to stay away from. The clubhouse is a particularly necessary inclusion, and it is inside these luxurious confines where I have the privilege of meeting the architect. Finding myself alone with him, I make a point of commending him for what I feel is a remarkable building. The place is genuinely spectacular. He thanks me.

“It’s bittersweet,” he tells me. “I’m very proud of this place, but …” He hesitates. “I wasn’t paid what was promised,” he says. I just listen. “Trump pays half upfront,” he says, “but he’ll stiff you for the rest once the project is completed.”

“He stiffed you?”

“If I tried to sue, the legal bills would be more than what I was owed. He knew that. He basically said Take what I’m offering,” and I see how heavy this is for the man, all these years later. “So, we sent the invoice. He didn’t even pay that,” he says. None of this will be in the show. Not Trump’s suggested infidelities, nor his aversion toward paying those who work for him.
...
We lay out the virtues and deficiencies of each "The Apprentice" finalist to Trump in a fair and balanced way
...
“Yeah,” Trump says to no one in particular, “but, I mean, would America buy a n*g**r winning?”
...
