Fun fact: Trump can't appeal till Judge sentences him in July. The reason: the trial is not finished till sentencing.

Trump could in July, conceivably, be sentenced instantly to jail time or community service such as highway cleaning.

Personally I'd love for him to be cleaning highways rather than in jail, as the image of Trump holding a garbage bag, garbage stick and wearing a hi-viz vest doesn't make a good tshirt to hawk to his sycophants.

Probably the Secret Service would prefer jail time, as it's safer, so my guess are the Judge would likely take that into account.

And yes, the Secret Service is making plans in case Trump goes to jail. Second fun fact: it's an open secret they don't like him, as he frequently insults them to their respective faces because Trump knows they can't retaliate in kind.

As mentioned the appeal process is a long process; years is not unusual. He could spend all his time in jail while appealing.

Even now, if he threatens anyone involved in the trial, including the former jury members, there's no shortages of laws that could get him throw in jail.

After all Trump isn't the first mob boss found guilty in New York, and wouldn't be the first mob boss to instigate violence in retaliation, directly or indirectly.

But I'm guessing Trump won't be able to stop himself as usual.

Donald Trump’s New York attorney Todd Blanche. should have stuck with Fox News. On that appearance he pledged fealty/loyalty to Trump, and swore it wasn't his fault.

He had a pathetic stumbling interview on CNN.

The losing attorney does practically bad when asked why defense didn't ask why Keith Schiller, Trump's Bodyguard, to testify.

Keith was literally standing outside the door and could have testified that Stormy Daniels was never there, as Trump repeatedly stated.

For some reason Todd says it's America's fault that he didn't call the bodyguard to testify ?!?

kingdragonfly: Slate: The Donald Trump I Saw on The Apprentice

Author: During that time, I signed an expansive nondisclosure agreement that promised a fine of $5 million and even jail time if I were to ever divulge what actually happened. It expired this year.

Great article about the reality tv and Trump. I have not yet read all of it.

Something I have read elsewhere - there is apparently miles and miles of tape with Trump saying all kinds of disgusting and horrible things all edited off the show. I wonder if similar NDAs apply to the tapes and if those expire this year. It will be spectacular.

Like other Trump things I expect video will generate outrage in the usual places with only a very small portion having any ability to change minds about voting in some contexts.

Trump is a convicted felon, and when the inevitable appeal happens it'll likely be over a year before there's a tiny chance that appeal will work.

So what rights has Trump lost?

Not all states don't distinguish in-state or out-of-state felonies (The state where the alleged crime occurred has jurisdiction to prosecute the offense.)

Note in Florida that fraud is a "felony conviction of moral turpitude" meaning he loses even more rights than usual in Florida (though I expect the two-tier "haves/have nots" justice system in Florida will give him a pass.)

Legal Match: Convicted Felon Rights

There are often places where individuals are required to indicate whether they have been convicted for a felony, such as when they are applying for:
  • Certain jobs;
  • Housing; and
  • Other things that require applications.
Do Convicted Felons Have Restricted Rights?
In some circumstances, but not always, convicted felons may have some of their civil rights restricted. This will depend on the laws of the state, which may vary.

For example, some states restrict the voting rights of convicted felons. Other states make it illegal for convicted felons to possess a firearm or even body armor.

In other situations, a felony conviction may affect an individual’s rights in terms of:
  • Employment;
  • Driving privileges;
  • Child custody;
  • Child visitation; and
  • Other areas.

US Vote Foundation: Can felons vote? Can prisoners vote in jail?

Florida: If you are convicted of a felony not of moral turpitude, you lose your right to vote...

You permanently lose your right to vote if you are convicted of a felony of moral turpitude [including fraud] in Florida. Your right to vote can only be restored by a formal pardon from the Governor.

Common felonies of moral turpitude include felonies involving murder or sexual abuse.

[Kingdragonfly includes fraud in Florida, even if out-of-state]

During a controversial speech at the Jan. 6, 2021 rally near the White House before a pro-Trump mob attacked the Capitol, then Alabama congressman Mo Brooks told the crowd to “start taking down names and kicking ass.”

Here's what he has to say about Trump now.

Yes Mr Brooks and Trump aren't mates any more, as the former espoused a different view on (I can't remember what) to the latter. Brooks immediately became a very vocal Trump critic, after the two of them were BFF's for a while.

Having said that, I don't see the Republican party letting go of the orange buffoon anytime soon. Maybe 2028 will be the time they finally deem fit to get rid of him and nominate someone, well, good?

Being Florida the Pardons are probably already on the Governor's desk waiting for his signature.

Some of his base would tolerate him jumping every woman in the US so long as abortion wasn't involved.

The NY Times - Trump Announces $34.8 Million Fund-Raising Haul After Guilty Verdict

31 May 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign announced that he had raised $34.8 million in the wake of his felony conviction, shattering online records for Republicans and an early sign of the extent to which the base was rallying behind him.

The campaign said in a statement that nearly 30 percent of the donors who gave online were new to the party’s online donating platform, WinRed, giving the former president an invaluable infusion of new contributions to tap in the coming months.

The Trump campaign said the haul was double its previous best day ever on WinRed.

And the one-day haul was nearly 10 times the $4 million Mr. Trump raised when his mug shot was released in 2023, after his booking in Atlanta for his indictment there.

One thing that Donald is very good at - ripping off his followers.  😶

There was a dramatic confrontation on CNN today when George Conway, an 'old-fashioned Republican' who despises Trump, seemingly had a melt-down as he repeatedly accused CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings of lying until anchor Kassie Hunt had to step in. This was very unusual for Conway, who usually comes across as fairly controlled. I don't know if this will affect his future appearances on CNN. He has been a regular 'never Trump' contributor up to now and has seemed to personify how Republicans used to be before Trump poisoned the well.

I expect George Conway knows Scott Jennings well from his time deep in GOP.
Hearing someone who you know has a brain, and not an idiot just repeating Trumps alternative facts.
There is probably a lot of, 'I know you Scott, you don't believe this' going on in your head at that point.

I think the blatant misrepresentation of fact that is just accepted by the host as the other side.
Scott Jennings is paid by CNN as a regular Republican writer/contributor, so has some duty to facts?

It probably gets to you as a big part of the problem, people who know better blatantly denying fact and not getting pulled up for it.

Sensible discussion goes out the window at that point.

Bit I saw was not much of a meltdown, nothing like a Winston Peters meltdown. :-)
We have all seen even the cool Picard put his face in his hands.
