kingdragonfly: when the inevitable appeal happens
Extra, extra: some light reading as a number of experts weigh in on the GUILTY (love saying that!) verdict:
Yes Mr Brooks and Trump aren't mates any more, as the former espoused a different view on (I can't remember what) to the latter. Brooks immediately became a very vocal Trump critic, after the two of them were BFF's for a while.
Having said that, I don't see the Republican party letting go of the orange buffoon anytime soon. Maybe 2028 will be the time they finally deem fit to get rid of him and nominate someone, well, good?
kingdragonfly: Florida: If you are convicted of a felony not of moral turpitude, you lose your right to vote...
You permanently lose your right to vote if you are convicted of a felony of moral turpitude [including fraud] in Florida. Your right to vote can only be restored by a formal pardon from the Governor.
Being Florida the Pardons are probably already on the Governor's desk waiting for his signature.
Some of his base would tolerate him jumping every woman in the US so long as abortion wasn't involved.
The NY Times - Trump Announces $34.8 Million Fund-Raising Haul After Guilty Verdict
31 May 2024
Former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign announced that he had raised $34.8 million in the wake of his felony conviction, shattering online records for Republicans and an early sign of the extent to which the base was rallying behind him.
The campaign said in a statement that nearly 30 percent of the donors who gave online were new to the party’s online donating platform, WinRed, giving the former president an invaluable infusion of new contributions to tap in the coming months.
The Trump campaign said the haul was double its previous best day ever on WinRed.
And the one-day haul was nearly 10 times the $4 million Mr. Trump raised when his mug shot was released in 2023, after his booking in Atlanta for his indictment there.
One thing that Donald is very good at - ripping off his followers. 😶

There was a dramatic confrontation on CNN today when George Conway, an 'old-fashioned Republican' who despises Trump, seemingly had a melt-down as he repeatedly accused CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings of lying until anchor Kassie Hunt had to step in. This was very unusual for Conway, who usually comes across as fairly controlled. I don't know if this will affect his future appearances on CNN. He has been a regular 'never Trump' contributor up to now and has seemed to personify how Republicans used to be before Trump poisoned the well.

Interesting piece about that exact point here: https://www.thebulwark.com/i/145164089/ron-to-the-rescue

I expect George Conway knows Scott Jennings well from his time deep in GOP.
Hearing someone who you know has a brain, and not an idiot just repeating Trumps alternative facts.
There is probably a lot of, 'I know you Scott, you don't believe this' going on in your head at that point.
I think the blatant misrepresentation of fact that is just accepted by the host as the other side.
Scott Jennings is paid by CNN as a regular Republican writer/contributor, so has some duty to facts?
It probably gets to you as a big part of the problem, people who know better blatantly denying fact and not getting pulled up for it.
Sensible discussion goes out the window at that point.
Bit I saw was not much of a meltdown, nothing like a Winston Peters meltdown. :-)
We have all seen even the cool Picard put his face in his hands.
