The Philadelphia Inquirer has trolled the New York Times with the publication of an editorial encouraging Donald Trump to leave the presidential race for the good of the country.
The piece mirrors the language of the Times editorial. (see my recent post)

CBS News Poll – June 28-29, 2024
breaking
For months before the first debate, the nation's voters repeatedly expressed doubts over whether President Biden had the cognitive health enough to serve.
Today, those doubts have grown even more: now at nearly three-quarters of the electorate, and now including many within his own party.
And today, after the debate with former President Trump, an increased number of voters, including many Democrats, don't think Mr. Biden should be running for president at all.
Nearly half his party doesn't think he should now be the nominee.
(Trump does better, but still only gets half the electorate thinking he has the cognitive health to serve.)
This poll is bad news for those of us who oppose Trump, and I would urge you to read it in full. [free link]
Gerontocracy is the enemy of Democracy. I am an old man, and I know this to be true. 😟

Trump begs for immunity hours before the Supreme Court's verdict is due :

Well, we assume the Supreme Court will reach a verdict shortly as it is the end of the term. But I don't think there is any promise is there? The "best" strategy from the MAGA judges would be to simply put it off till after the election. Then they can safely decide the President is not immune. Safely because Trump will already have been re-elected and thus makes himself untouchable, whilst also still making the "right" decision.

Again, I come back to the argument that if that was case, Biden could have Trump assassinated and then claim "presidential immunity". Absolutely ridiculous 🙄
Every sane person knows it's ridiculous. But the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

That is what makes Biden a sane choice despite everything else.
Trump is proposing this kind of immunity as he knows and trusts Biden would never use it.
This is from someone who mostly trusts no-one.
Trump knows Biden is basically at his core a decent human being who follows rules and process of Government.
Doing things properly if thats attending memorial for fallen
or facing assembly of soldiers that may include those disabled by their service.
Trump wants to turn Presidency into a dictatorship for him and his family to follow.
The fascination he has for Kim and the dynasty, and Putin and his power.
Biden term may be as unexciting and 'normal' as his past with a cabinet that is not radical.
Is that so bad.
Has Tv and Streaming turned us all into wanting to live in and experience that fantasy dystopian future first hand.
Anyway presently a President is not a dictator.
There is power in Cabinet, House and Senate especially with their ability to create, change and veto.
House and Senate are actually, or were the powerhouse of legislation.
MAGAS much like a Government of Sov-Cits end up being unable to do anything.
So yes they do need a brutal Dictator, the rest of us don't.
I have seen more than one person say that if Trump gets in again this year, it could be the last election the US ever has (or words to that effect), although I don't know how accurate that is though.
The Supreme Court decision - Trump's get-out-of-jail-free card :
The BBC Guide: Trump has some immunity from prosecution, Supreme Court rules [a good summary]
- The justices ruled 6-3 that Trump has immunity from prosecution for official acts that are part of his core constitutional duties as president, and that he has zero immunity for unofficial acts
- They have sent the special counsel's case back to lower courts to decide what is official and unofficial, but they have also given guidance on the case
- The three liberal justices dissented, with Justice Sonia Sotomayor writing that under this decision "the President is now a king above the law"
- Trump sees this as a major victory. So do most court-watchers
What was an official act in the 6 January case?
- Justices decided there are two official acts in this case: Directing the Justice Department to discuss investigating purported election fraud with some states and talking to then-Vice President Mike Pence (Trump pressed him to not certify the results of the 2020 election)
- They also said the speech Trump gave on the morning of 6 January 2021 encouraging rally attendees to march on the Capitol and suggesting he might join them was an official act, as were the tweets he sent that day
- They raised questions about whether pressuring state officials to change their states' electoral votes for Trump and creating what is commonly called the "false electors" lists for some states were unofficial, but they leave it to lower courts to decide
- In another blow to Jack Smith, they ruled that Trump's private records - and his advisors' - "may not be admitted as evidence at trial"

Let's hope Judge Merchan takes note and sends him directly to jail for several years next week. That case is free and clear given it all happened before he was elected the first time round.
