Trump can not order the army to free him, or if he does try that will trigger a civil war with potentially him being the 1st casualty.

If we get to the point where he becomes President again it will be because there are literally tens if not hundreds of millions of American morons who voted for him. He already sent thousands of armed idiots to storm the Capitol. He does not give a flying function about starting a civil war. He knows he can surround himself with enough of them to keep him safe. And if not, well, he's a moron too: it's not like he's thinking that deeply about any of this. He just does whatever dumbarse thing pops into his head that exact second.

Also, you don't have to agree with me. This is what Judge Jackson had to say in her dissent:

So, one might ask, what remains of accountability for Presidents under law? With today’s paradigm shift, the majority leaves in place only the chance that this Court might someday determine that the criminal conduct in question was an “unofficial” act, or that the Government will somehow rebut the presumption of immunity that applies to a President’s official acts, such that criminal consequences might attach. But with the parameters of official and unofficial conduct unknown, I think it highly unlikely that a sitting President would feel constrained by these remote possibilities.

Trump is not bound by anything, anymore.

The Washington Post - Biden denounces Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity

01 July 2024

President Biden on Monday night issued a blistering attack on the U.S. Supreme Court for its decision earlier in the day declaring that Donald Trump was immune from prosecution for official acts he took during his presidency.

In brief but forceful remarks that came in a late addition to his schedule, Biden said that the high court was setting a dangerous precedent that could fundamentally change the world’s most powerful office.

For all practical purposes, today’s decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what the president can do,” Biden said, adding that he pledges “to respect the limits of the presidential powers.”

The president also noted that the decision means that it is “highly unlikely” that Trump would be prosecuted before the election in November, which he called “a terrible disservice to the people of this nation.”

So now, the American people have to do what the courts should have been willing to do, but will not,” Biden said.

The American people must decide whether Donald Trump’s assault on our democracy on January 6th makes him unfit for public office in the highest office in the land.”

Fine words from America's last President? ...   😟

Spoiler: the solution is judicial reform, meaning something gotta happen with the Supreme Court now.

The Constitution does not specify how many Supreme Court justices there can be. Logic indicates it has to be an odd number. Although the Constitution initially called for a court composed of six members, Congress later set the number of justices at nine.

Why not 11?

This slow motion train crash reminds me of two gruesome stories in 2009. If you have a strong stomach Google "Jaren Hare pet python" and perhaps much worse "Sandra Herold pet chimpanzee".

In 1986 President Reagan appointed William Rehnquist as Chief Justice, cementing a rightward shift.

The NY Times - Trump Moves to Overturn Manhattan Conviction, Citing Immunity Decision

breaking

Donald J. Trump began an effort on Monday to throw out his recent criminal conviction in Manhattan and postpone his upcoming sentencing, citing a new Supreme Court ruling that granted him broad immunity from prosecution for official actions he took as president ...

In a letter to the judge overseeing the case, Mr. Trump’s lawyers sought permission to file a motion to set aside the verdict, doing so just hours after the Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling involving one of Mr. Trump’s other criminal cases.

But:

1. These events took place before Trump was President.

2. This was a state prosecution, not a federal one.

I hope his case gets thrown to the kerb, where it deserves to be.

Must say I'm absolutely disappointed in the Supreme Court - I guess it's pretty obvious their loyalties lie with the orange buffoon, not the Constitution 😠

Sentencing delay is 48 days before election, Tuesday, 5 November 2024.

Mostly due to US Supreme Court.

RNZ: Trump hush money prosecutors agree to sentencing delay

A New York judge on Tuesday delayed Donald Trump's sentencing for his conviction on criminal charges stemming from hush money paid to a porn star until 18 September, after the former US president asked for a chance to argue he should have been immune from prosecution.

From today, in several news outlets

BBC: Judge orders surprise release of Epstein transcripts
A judge in Florida has ordered the surprise release of graphic transcripts from the state's 2006 prosecution of paedophile Jeffrey Epstein - a probe that ended with the millionaire financier receiving a legal slap on the wrist.

Epstein cut a deal in 2008 to avoid charges of sex trafficking and rape. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to 13 months in prison.

The nearly 200 pages of documents contain details of Epstein's crimes, including first-hand accounts from victims and specifics about payoffs to underage victims.

When prosecutors made that deal, they knew he had sexually assaulted teenage girls two years before, according to the transcripts.

On Monday, Circuit Judge Luis Delgado ordered the 16-year-old documents released, writing that "details in the record will be outrageous to decent people".

"The testimony taken by the Grand Jury concerns activity ranging from grossly unacceptable to rape — all of the conduct at issue is sexually deviant, disgusting, and criminal."
...
Convicted in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor, Epstein had moved in social circles that included key figures in the world of business and politics. Those figures included people like former presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton to celebrities and even Prince Andrew.

New scrutiny of Epstein began in 2018 after the Miami Herald published interviews with Epstein victims, including some who were seeking civil charges against him.

The renewed interest in the case led prosecutors to file new criminal charges.

Epstein took his own life in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial over federal sex-trafficking charges.

His accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving a 20-year sentence for helping Epstein carry out sex trafficking crimes.

Epstein lived life at the peak of luxury, and his own island and all.
Very much lord of his own domain for decades, where no-one told him what to do.

The remand Prison had a very strict reigeme.
I expect it would have focussed his thoughts that where he would end up for rest of his life would be worse.
Then there is the whole thing about sexual preditors being at bottom of prison pecking order.
Plus while fit he was not No Holes Barred Cage Fight material.

I could see he would be very highly motivated to avoid a future life that had nothing but suffering.
Certainly he might have got helpful suggestions from outside as well, its good for everyone.

He might have even bribed the guards who were conveniently abscent etc to enable his quick exit.
Or the someone on his behalf done the same.

So bob each way, but he may not have been in any mental condition to resist the idea.
