Biden should issue an executive order declaring Pink Underpants day, followed by the immediate arrest of anyone not visibly wearing them. Let the supreme court work that one out.

Good idea, with one small change, make it Rainbow Clothes day and drive the Retrumplicans crazy at the same time.

Given what the Supreme Court just did for Trump this is a real (although unrealistic) possibility. Biden has some ethics to not do this to Trump, at least:

The Daily Beast - Trump Caught on Video Claiming ‘Broken-Down’ Biden Has Quit

03 July 2024

In a leaked video [link], Trump offers a frank analysis of his rival’s performance in the first presidential debate ...

Donald Trump delivered a brutal assessment of Joe Biden’s performance against him in last week’s presidential debate, calling the president a “broken-down pile of crap” teetering on the verge of “quitting the race” in a video provided by a source to The Daily Beast.

“He just quit, you know - he’s quitting the race,” Trump says, sitting in a golf cart. “I got him out of the - and that means we have Kamala.” ...

After announcing that the president is quitting and handing the baton to Kamala Harris, Trump continues, “I think she’s gonna be better” as an opponent.

“She’s so bad. She’s so pathetic,” he adds, plucking at his gloves, then appears to say, “She’s so f***ing bad.”

It is not known where or when the footage had been covertly filmed.

I've never seen this lawyer so flustered, basically losing his sh_t.

I think it was because he assumed the Supreme Court would act logically, use precedence. In other words, not go rogue.

The "Nostradamus" of US elections Allan Lichtman outlines a possible Plan B for how the Democrats could still win if Biden decides not to run again:

The story says "since 1982", I assume that means 1984, which means that for every 1024 pundits who make completely random predictions on each election, one will end up being a "Nostradamus".  So it's not quite as magical as it's made out to be.

(Lots of gamblers use systems, most of which aren't much better than pure chance.  In his case he's probably increasing the odds quite a bit, but then there were also numerous elections where the outcome was a foregone conclusion, e.g. Reagan vs Mondale, so there were a much smaller number of close calls he had to get right).

TBH, I think the Biden situation could be just the added impetus needed to force Democrats to get out and vote. And if the situation becomes direr it'll become even more pressing for Never-Trumpers to cast their ballots.

And don't forget, Trump is going to ever more raucous and smug over the coming months. There'll be more and more revelations about how he's going to be the best President ever, better even than he was at 45, because he's going to have absolute power and immunity to do whatever he wants. Once US voters, of all parties, clearly understand that it's up to them, and nobody else, to keep this lunatic out of office, I think we'll see a landslide victory for Dems.

Of course, we'll have to put up with Trump's stolen election rants for years to come 🤪.

Trump Is Immune

Aw come one,

It is widely accepted that leaders (including in the US)  have immunity for actions taken in the administration of their office, (either explicitly- they pass a law to "make it legal" or they simply use the existing laws on the books....

Politicians are elected to wield the power of the state,  and routinely do things that are found to be in violation of the law, but they have no personal criminal liability for those actions.....

In NZ , a number of the actions the government took during Covid were found to be non compliant with the law.. did anyone expect the minsters who took those decisions to be personally liable (Cookers aside) ....???

Helen Clark once famously declared "By definition I cannot leak"

Losing sight of the big picture in the small details. The big picture here is Donald Trump is a malignant despot supported by religious and ideological fundamentalists who want to dictate how others should live. He isn't bright or imaginative but he does possess some native cunning. Once he gets in he won't make the mistakes he did last time. His purpose will be to dismantle institutional and legislative protections and rule by decree and be president for life. He has already made a good start on that with the Supreme Court.

Then you have all the evil attracted to Trump looking to make sure he gets a running start.
Trump may not be smart enough, but the Roger Stones and such are.
Fill the Cabinet with loyalists who are already in on the plan.

Start dismantling Government checks and balances.
The Trump appointed Postmaster providing a lesson.
Destroying sorting machines last election to try to circumvent postal voting.
More of this 'Right Stuff'

More people in the pentagon standing by would be good.
DOJ under more direct control of a subservient director.

Its not Trump as much as all those he brings with him now with a mission and a better idea of what to do.

Just except for that fact that he has correctly predicted every election, bar 2000 - and even then Gore still won the popular vote in that one. I figure he's had a pretty good run rate so far.

Ah, so it's 512 people to get one Nostradamus, not 1024. And given that several were relatively easily predictable, it may only have been 128 or 64.

Incidentally, this sort of thing is a (hypothetical) scam sometimes used to teach stats, what you do is send out newsletters to subscribers to your free financial advice blog telling half your members to invest in stock A and the other half in stock B.  Then you take the half where the stock went up and send half each a newsletter praising stock C and half stock D.  You keep doing this a few times and then charge the group where you've had a 100% success rate $10,000 for your next prediction.
