Given today, I wonder how many people will be willing to be behind (Physically) Trump in the crowd at a rally now?

Shooter was wearing this Youtube channel t-shirt, "Demolition Ranch"

This interview talks, with heavy use of "dog whistles": Interview talks about why, during Covid, they need guns to protect themselves from the US government

Er, sorry, what country is this again? USA? The country with 1 armed revolution, 1 civil war, 4 presidents assassinated, 2 wounded, and now 1 ex- wounded? I think objectively you'd have to conclude that violence is definitely a part of US politics.

Brave Saint Donald will play the Victim card (again) and get millions of sympathy votes.

A Republican victory has just become even more probable.  😟

Yeah, that's my concern too. What's worse than a martyr? A living martyr.

kingdragonfly: Looks like most politicians left and right are posting these sentiments almost exclusively (almost word-for-word matches for most whether Democrat or Republican)

  • thoughts and prayers for Trump (No Republican so far has mentioned bystanders, even in passing)

  • thank to secret service/first responders for their speedy response

  • political violence has no place in politics

Elon Musk stands out as different: “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” he wrote on X.

I get that as regards the sentiments.

I dont recall like sentiments from the Trump caused insurrection that killed these:

Within 36 hours, five people died: one was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes, including a police officer.[c][33][44] Many people were injured, including 174 police officers. Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months.[34]

The NY Times - Trump Wounded in Assassination Attempt as Hail of Bullets Erupts at Campaign Rally

After Mr. Trump thrilled the crowd with his fist pump and made it offstage on his own power, his arm draped over the shoulder of an agent, some in the crowd quickly saw political implications.

Trump was just elected today, folks,” I heard a man shout. “He is a martyr.”

JPNZ: What an incredible day! This is an attack on democracy. This pretty much guarantees Trump victory in the election.

Probably does. There was another attack on democracy Jan 6 2021.......

Unfortunately ...gun and ammunition stocks... sigh

I am concerned about taking my Family to the USA in4 weeks now...F it.

America is in a bad way at the moment, but most people individually are decent and friendly and helpful. It is a big place and unless you are unlucky, you should have a perfectly enjoyable and even uplifting time. Be sensible and watch out for warning signs but don't obsess about it. The chances that you will have a wonderful experience greatly outweigh the possibility that you won't.

100% Ive spent quite a bit of time there, lovely people, lovely place to visit, then there is the dark side. Burger joint in Tennessee, old while guy bagging a black server, I apologised to her, poor thing. Similar area, an old white guy staggering in a car park, "its ok honey, (ex gf) he's just on crack. Got lost driving in New Orleans at night, back street, black guys having fun playing basketball "honey dont stop dont stop". Stuck on the freeway in Atlanta, under the sheltered over pass pillars, beds bookcases, the homeless making a home. Super clean cut well dressed beggars in SFO. Same day, we were flying out and old white guy begging for water. "Im a vet I just want water" We had excess in the rental car he was super thankful.

Great place, great people, but a real dark side as well.

You forgot criminal charges, some of which were against the nation, Busness charges, failed business ventures, sex worker bribe charges, plus the losses from "the" insurrection, which were lives and money https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_6_United_States_Capitol_attack#:~:text=Within%2036%20hours%2C%20five%20people,by%20suicide%20within%20seven%20months

"Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) posted to X that “Joe Biden sent the orders,” garnering over 4 million views, and later called for Biden to face charges for “inciting an assassination.”"

I thought it's now legal for Presidents to do whatever they want?

I'd comment but I'm probably on the Secret Service's watch list for my comments about Trump already.

Shooter identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks.

This one is gold: "Crooks was registered as a Republican and was in active voting status, according to the database service LexisNexis."

I was just going to post that bit about him being a Republican too, what a twist. Here I was thinking it was some sort of left-wing nutbar, but no...

Quite a few memes going around the place today, pointing out Republican hypocrisy of their oft-recycled line of "thoughts and prayers" (and nothing else) whenever it's a school shooting, yet when Trump gets shot the uproar is overwhelming.

I just wish Republicans would have the same empathy towards school shootings (and action around them) as they are currently showing towards Trump being shot (an investigation being opened, etc).

My God, if they did that for every shooting in America I doubt anything else would ever get done inside Congress.

Why do a Congress investigation? It is a police matter.
