With a virtually non-existent social media profile, his Internet history will likely be the most telling thing. He may not have posted much, but like any 20-year-old he'd surely spend a lot of time online. What had he been reading and watching?

Maybe he had profiles they just haven't found yet?

Or did he just want notoriety in death, and it didn't matter how he got it?

JPNZ:

Good post, Ive seen it mentioned a few times that maybe he was a bullied loner with social issues/anxiety/whatever. Its not like the USA doesn't have a long history of troubled teenage gunmen that go on shooting rampages.

What gets me is that he was 2 years out of high school. High school can be awful for some kids because of bullying, but he got through that. You'd expect he wouldn't experience the same sort of thing in his workplace at a nursing home.

A socially disconnected teen in unsocial media gun culture silo.
Shunned at school because they are strange including wearing hunting/military camo clothing.

Two years out of school and possibly they can't afford university.
High school diploma, minor awards in math and science may still not get you much of a job.

Family gives you an AR15 becuase.
No alarm bells really, this is normal middle America.

Not seeing a future.
You diversify into bomb making as well.

Maybe you are looking at going out in style, rampage your old High School?
The school rife club rejected you on basis you were so bad a shot you were dangerous.
Rejection by this boys most identifiable peer group?

Trump train arrives just down the road a few minuites drive.
School shooting now looks 10 a penny easily forgotten.

Fame !, I want to live forever, as the song goes.

It's a kind of suicide by cop, politics a side issue just going out famous.

Certainly possible.

But Trump is one of the most polarising political figures in American history, and the idea that his attempted assassin (the first attempt on a president or candidate in 43 years I believe) wasn't politically motivated just seems so unlikely in the current climate. Its baffling to me.

Barron: Heated Rhetoric As Republicans Blame Biden For Trump Shooting
...
Representative Mike Collins went further on the shooting, stating "Joe Biden sent the orders," without offering credible evidence.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, meanwhile, offered an escalation of her own, telling her followers "we are in a battle between good and evil" and casting Democrats as "the party of pedophiles" and "violence."

"The Democrat party is flat out evil, and yesterday they tried to murder President Trump," she said.

In my mind the idea that he wanted notoriety is the most likely. From what we know so far he seems like a nobody and no evidence of political leanings. He probably looked for the highest profile available target and Trump obliged with a local rally. If Biden had turned up it would have been him.

There was no reason found for America's worst mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017. It sounds callous but the shooter probably wanted the record and the notoriety that went with it.

If Trump spoke out and told these two clowns to calm the rhetoric down (as Biden has already done) I think it would go some way towards making a difference with the divisiveness Trump himself has promoted since he became president. However, I think it highly unlikely he would do this, as he also loves the attention it gets him 😠

What was his experience shooting on a range? a steady rifle with optics seems improbable for a regular shooter to miss from 150yd. Perhaps ad not used it before. I dont know the facts around how he obtained it etc.

I just hope neither party turns it into a political circus in respect of the innocent lives lost.

I listened recently to Crockett (D) on it being possible to be a "responsible gun enthusiast" and how it is the leading cause of death for teen/young adults. If anything one would hope licensing would sink in, but not hopeful. He was wearing that fiream channel shirt, it just seems like they are talked about as entertainment, not blaming, just saying.

Reagan had a 3 month surge from 60-68% after the incident in 81.

But very different circumstances and if he were around today I highly doubt he would agree with what SCOTUS has done and what plans Trump and Co have for the constitution. If anything, his Rhetoric was more Biden like. Its tragic to see the Republican party be taken over by this toxicity.

Of course Mosk throws his weight behind Trump, the miniscule tax the wealthy already pay is big dollars and he and other Wealthy want tax breaks to 0% with other enticements. There is no irony Trump is targeting influencers. Dems need to make a decision and fast, then whatever it is there influencers need to get behind it. Whether a man stutters and mixes up names on occasion or not, plenty of long clips showing Trump do the same. Its the character and political experience that matter imo. Repub or Dem.

Dems just have to keep up the Rallies like that excellent one in Michigan. Reminding people what they have done and what they plan to do for the evey day folk in the swing states especially. But also not let up reminding what kind of person the other guy is, the bunkruptics, frauds, sxl assault which the judge labelled far more after Trump dismissing it etc. Every single event involved in, whether proven or not, because the other guy is outright filling 90mins with lies. and of course point out what his associates plan to do with the constitution.

Sideface: The US has nearly 78,000 licensed gun dealers, more than all post offices in the United States, and more than the number of McDonald’s, Burger King, Subway, and Wendy’s locations combined.

Over half of all gun dealers are located in residential communities, including nearly 9,000 dealers licensed to manufacture firearms and ammunition, from handguns and shotguns to silencers and other accessories.

Those figures are very misleading because a dealer license is one that allows you to buy unlimited numbers of guns at wholesale prices with little to no scrutiny. Ergo...

I was thinking about this earlier today, and thought what if the situation had been reversed, ie, Biden had been shot instead. What would Trump have done?

But then I saw this and thought this bloke can verbalise it a bit better than I can:

Yep, that's the tricky bit, how do you be the bigger person without losing a lot of votes to a con job? (I mean the post shooting poor me, Im fighting for the middle class not corporate like Biden)

Its like everything you see from Trump supporters like Musk or Carlson or their friends, is just one big gas light, stating the direct opposite of the truth.

Some how some of middle america truly believes Trump is fighting for them. He has no policies aside from mass import tariff and 11M deportations (to where will be interesting). Which it doesnt take all the Nobel price winining economists Biden is citing to realise that is going to sink middle america while providng tax cuts to the wealthy. along with complete federal abortion ban.

That, aside from Proj2025 is all people have heard, plan wise from Trump.

Dems just need to make this CRYSTAL clear, along with what Trump has done and what he has alleged to have done. If he is going to state lies, may as well point out unproven claims. On top of over turning the Constitution so that whatever he does as president, provided its said to be president related, cannot be used as evidence.

I do think the Dems need to risk Newsom for Pres and Harris to help him prosecute this election/lies, or the other way around. People want new. I know two Calis might be bad but not if they prosecute it to the patriot side of people, like Biden did in Michigan.

I dont get it, why would anyone fall for this rubbish?

They have low inflation, petrol is half the price it is here, unemployment is at record levels, healthcare is cheaper than ever, mean while making money selling and buying reserve oil. Why is this amount of US citizens so unaware this is what happens post pandemics and they have recovered better than anyone else? why, they have the internet.....

also has anyone noticed how extreme right wing sky news australia has become? just taking the piss out of Biden, not what he has achieved, with zero commentary on Trumps gaffes and lies?

What is australia getting so involved with this for? its embarrassing but also creepy.

I'm not shocked the 20 year old assassin was given an AR-15 assault rifle by his father.

In my American youth, I hung out with some unsavory gun-nuts, wannabe terrorists, and even some criminals. (I did manage to stay out of jail myself.)

I'm not going into details, because you probably wouldn't believe me anyhow.

It should come at no surprise that America is awash in guns. And right-wingers gun owners vastly outnumber left-winger gun owners.

I won't touch a gun now. I discovered that guns get you into much more dangerous situations than being unarmed. That walking away from a confrontation is always the best choice.

I don't expect the same epiphany from Trump.

Trump has encouraged militant right wingers. I'm only shocked that he experienced the political violence he's been encouraging first hand.

I noticed that too. I gave thumbs down to several Sky Australian news Youtube pieces. I was tempted on reporting them to Youtube. Even among the usual right-wing channels, Sky News has definitely been stood out.

Honestly I often find Australians attitudes perplexing.

What do you mean it’s become right wing? It’s a Murdoch news outlet. It’s always been right wing.

They employed Alan Jones after he got punted from radio for being a piece of shit. That should say enough.
