TeaLeaf:

also has anyone noticed how extreme right wing sky news australia has become? just taking the piss out of Biden, not what he has achieved, with zero commentary on Trumps gaffes and lies?

It's not "become", it's essentially been Fox Australia for quite some time now.

kingdragonfly: Trump has encouraged militant right wingers. I'm only shocked that he experienced the political violence he's been encouraging first hand.

I can't find it now, but I remember reading a comment Trump made after the shooting that went along the lines of "I can't believe this could happen in this country."

Ah yes, actually, I can 100% believe it could happen - given the number of guns available in the US and the ease of purchasing them, IMO it was really only a matter of time until something like this happened, to either Trump or Biden.

Handle9: What do you mean it’s become right wing? It’s a Murdoch news outlet. It’s always been right wing.

They employed Alan Jones after he got punted from radio for being a piece of shit. That should say enough.

Yeh I know, but its gotten just absurd, its like Trump is writing for them. I honestly think some of the stuff being said should be said in america, not spamming Oz defending the guy and mocking the dems with outright crazy talk.

Geeze alan jones, brings back memories. bad ones.

Im amazed at just how many YT views their spiels are getting and I wonder if amercians think we are all morons down under....

Like kingdragonfly said, they are even standing out from the usual right wing.

Now I wonder who in the world has "influenced" all this anti democratic right wing partisan movements around the world. first the afd in deutschland and then the far right Le Pen in France, luckily the centre held, even Reform was a worry for 30seconds in the UK.

We all know what Trumps answer to fixing Ukr is, so luckily they have friends already resolving this in advance.

That does depend on what your line of reference is, Sky news is pretty central here. But compared to virtually any news site in NZ it would sure seem that way.

Looks like his pet judge has given him an "RNC opening day" present...

Trump classified documents case dismissed by Florida judge

Judge Aileen Cannon granted Trump's motion to dismiss the federal case on the basis that the justice department's appointment of special prosecutor Jack Smith violates the Appointments Clause of the US Constitution.

What a useless judge. But does that mean the case can be appealed and retried now? Maybe with a judge who knows what they're doing?

The few times I've watched it all I've seen is mockery of Joe Biden and endless praise of Trump. Hardly what I'd call "pretty central".

Also (from Wikipedia): Especially since the acquisition of the channel by News Corp Australia, Sky News Australia has faced scrutiny from the press over its increased focus on opinion programming. Comparisons were drawn to Rupert Murdoch's American news channel Fox News, and there have been accusations that the channel's opinion programming has promoted misinformation and untrue conspiracy theories.

I think I'll pass, thanks.

Jack Smith not going to let that go. Perhaps this is opportunity to get her off the case.

Judge Aileen Cannon doesn't want this case: she had little experience with criminal trials, and her impartiality came into question early on. Pervious to this she most often wrote appellate motions.

In 2020, someone from the office of Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, asked her to apply to be a potential federal judge. And in November 2020, she became one of the youngest judges on the bench in the Southern District of Florida.

New York Times: Trump Vice president pick J.D. Vance Is an Oil Booster and Doubter of Human-Caused Climate Change

He once said society had a climate problem but changed his position sharply while seeking Donald Trump’s endorsement in his Senate race.

Senator J.D. Vance, Republican of Ohio, is a strong supporter of the oil and gas industry, opposes solar power and electric vehicles, and has said climate change is not a threat.

It wasn’t always that way.

Mr. Vance, a fierce critic of Mr. Trump before becoming one of his most loyal MAGA supporters, also appears to have undergone an evolution on the issue of climate change. As recently as 2020, Mr. Vance said in a speech at Ohio State University that “we have a climate problem in our society.” He praised solar energy and he called natural gas an improvement over dirtier forms of energy, but not “the sort of thing that’s gonna take us to a clean energy future.”

Fast forward to 2022. As Mr. Vance sought Mr. Trump’s endorsement for his bid for the Senate, his positions on climate change took a sharp turn.

“I’m skeptical of the idea that climate change is caused purely by man,” Mr. Vance told the American Leadership Forum that year.

He acknowledged that the climate was changing but said that humans had no role in the changes. “It’s been changing, as others pointed out, it’s been changing for millennia,” Mr. Vance said.

(Scientists have conclusively determined that human activity, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, is the dominant reason the planet is at its warmest in recorded history.)

I think the VP pick should be in the election thread.

Trump is essentially playing the Rus playbook of state the opposite of the truth enough times to Normalise it, then blame the opposition for the very exact things Trump is 100% standing for in Truth.

Trump's comments re one less in the "Witch Hunt", people some how bellieve him, that he is being persecuted.

Cannon is a disgrace. Somebody this inept at the job with a clear conflict of interest should not be presiding over such a big case. Its absurd with that much evidence it just gets chucked out. I thought of all the cases this was the slam dunk. Dems should have stacked SCOTUS and brought these cases through the DOJ as a priority in 2021.

Some how Bidens lot need to fix the SCOTUS system now, I know there is a taskforce working on it, ie to be more inline with other functioning democracies, such as having no partisan majority and being an  18yr tenure not life long appointment. also so that each president cant just keep stacking it. I just dont know how they could "Trump-proof" it from him over turning whatever they do.

freitasm: VP discussion on the other thread @TeaLeaf.

yep, sorry was just my thoughts on the previous comment. Deleted my opinion.

It does feel like a depressing saga how somebody so corrupt can rig the court system in the supposed beacon of democracy. It feels like all is lost for justice.

So what happens now, Smith will appeal but is there any chance he will be successful and a new judge appointed?
