BBC: FBI: Trump gunman's motive still a mystery as new photos released
US authorities said that the man who attempted to kill former President Donald Trump acted alone and there is no sign of foreign involvement.

But FBI officials stressed at a news briefing on Wednesday that a motive for the assassination attempt remains unknown, and they said that Thomas Crooks - the 20-year-old assailant - had a "mixture of ideologies".
...
Kevin Rojek, head of the FBI's Pittsburgh office, said that Crooks began searching online for Trump campaign events starting in September 2023.

He searched for events for both [Republican] Trump and [Democrat] President Joe Biden, who was still the Democratic nominee at the time of the shooting. He also looked for the location of both the Republican and Democratic national conventions.

“When… the Trump rally was announced early in July, he became hyper-focused on that specific event and looked at it as a target of opportunity,” Mr Rojek said.

Crooks registered for the Trump rally one week in advance, Mr Rojek said.

On the same day, the 20-year-old searched how far assassin Lee Harvey Oswald was from John F Kennedy when the Marine veteran fatally shot the [Democrat] US president in 1963.

New York Times: Trump Reposts Crude Sexual Remark About Harris on Truth Social
...
Former President Donald J. Trump used his social-media website on Wednesday to amplify a crude remark about Vice President Kamala Harris that suggested Ms. Harris traded sexual favors to help her political career.

The post, by another user on Truth Social, was an image of Ms. Harris and Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump’s opponent in 2016. The text read: “Funny how blowjobs impacted both their careers differently…”

The remark was a reference to Mrs. Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, and the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and a right-wing contention that Ms. Harris’s romantic relationship with Willie Brown, the former mayor of San Francisco whom she dated in the mid-1990s while he was speaker of the California State Assembly, fueled her political rise.

Mr. Trump’s repost was the second time in 10 days that the former president shared content from his personal account making sexually oriented attacks on Ms. Harris.

Trump's barrel has no bottom to scrape, it seems. Even the war dead are an opportunity.

Former President Donald Trump "writes" in a new book set to be published next week.

He states Mark Zuckerberg plotted against him during the 2020 election and the Meta chief executive would “spend the rest of his life in prison” if he did it again.

Trump has made similar remarks about Zuckerberg before. Trump wrote in a July post on Truth Social that if elected he would pursue “ELECTION FRAUDSTERS at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time. We already know who you are. DON’T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!”

For now, Trump's ambition to be judge, jury and executioner is just an ambition.

I believe, and I really hope I am right, that Trump is shooting himself in the foot with this sort of behaviour. While his cult will cheer him on, most people, whether conservative or not, or religious or not, are fundamentally decent and will be put off by this kind of thing. They will either vote for someone else or not vote at all. It will be interesting to see how the election ultimately turns out. My guess (and hope) is that Trump will be swept away with the detritus of history.

He's appealing to the brown shirts. He wants total control and idiots think dictators will give them a better life.

Until they don't.

The "amusing" (if that's the word) thing about these sorts of idiots is that they always seem to think they will be amongst the privileged few, rather than the downtrodden masses. It never seems to occur to them that they are the ones who will be targeted, exploited, abused, and spat out by the New Order.

Donald Trump has a death wish. Deeply buried in a small corner of the festering tip site that is Trump's brain is the awareness that he really is a malicious and worthless person, which is why he despises his supporters more than he does his detractors. So his self-destructive behavior will continue to escalate until his wish is granted. IMHO, if he were to win in November, Project 2025 would be instigated and move forward with or without Trump's cooperation. Once this happens, Donald will fully become what he always has been - an embarrassment to the GOP, but now a likely bumbling, fumbling obstacle to the Project's full implementation. He should give up golf.

The Zuckerberg election related donation Trump was particularly upset about:

NPR: With a tight budget and little help from the federal government, Chester County applied for an election grant from the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a previously small Chicago-based nonprofit that quickly amassed hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to help local election offices — most notably, $350 million from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.

Crazy situation when funding is not provided nationally in many cases, and congress refuses to adequately provide in other cases, and election officials have to run cake stalls for a safe election.

Gawd, I wish hadn't followed that link so soon after dinner. I read the following and immediately barfed:

In "SAVE AMERICA", President Donald J. Trump offers an unparalleled look into his four years as the 45th President of the United States, and a vision for his next term! "SAVE AMERICA" is filled with iconic moments from the first Trump Administration. From Historic Summits with World Leaders to candid scenes from the White House, every photo has been selected by President Trump, alongside his words, which provide insight into what will shape his next four years in office. Lavishly illustrated and beautifully designed, "SAVE AMERICA" showcases President Trump's major themes and accomplishments, including record-breaking trade negotiations, tax cuts, international diplomacy, and Border security. This blend of powerful imagery and commentary paints a clear picture of President Trump's future vision for our Country. "SAVE AMERICA" is the only book which highlights the past, and offers a roadmap for the future directly from President Donald J. Trump!

I dunno what universe the MAGA crowd are living in, seems to be a constantly strange, angry, confrontational world.

In their warped logic, Trump wins = "free and fair election"; Trump loses = "waaah! It was all rigged! The other side cheated!!" like a pack of childish sore losers 🙄

I saw a video on Instagram (from memory) of some obvious MAGA-ers(?) watching a TV of Harris giving her speech at the DNC. One guy gets up while she's speaking with what looked like a sledgehammer and smashes the living crap out of the TV, totally destroying it.

If that was a stunt, I dunno what it was meant to achieve, otherwise I guess that idiot has some really serious problems he needs to get some help for? 🤷‍♂️

Regarding MAGA faithful saying Trump will win despite the poll numbers

Robert Trivers, American evolutionary biologist

"A very disturbing feature of overconfidence is that it often appears to be poorly associated with knowledge -- that is, the more ignorant the individual, the more confident he or she might be."

Or a favorite from author Robert Heinlein:

"Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig."
