kingdragonfly: Former President Donald Trump "writes" in a new book set to be published next week.

It looks like a picture book. Recommended retail USD$99.

I wonder if he bothered buying the rights to that photo or just used it, as they do with the music at his rallies.

kingdragonfly: Robert Trivers, American evolutionary biologist

"A very disturbing feature of overconfidence is that it often appears to be poorly associated with knowledge -- that is, the more ignorant the individual, the more confident he or she might be."

a.k.a. the Dunning-Kruger effect.  Trump is truly a renaissance man for the Dunning-Kruger effect.

They exploited a licensing loophole to use it, so it's legit but not legit at the same time.

Trump and staff reprehensible behavior at US national military cemetery.

The New Republic is "big brains" right-wing media. But story is consistent with all media.

NPR is highly trusted all sides, and high quality (if somewhat bland)

The New Republic: Elon Musk’s X Caught Slapping Spam Warning on NPR Story About Trump

Elon Musk’s “free speech” project is once again under fire—this time for flagging an article critical of Donald Trump.

On Thursday, X users and NPR editors noticed that a link to an NPR story about Trump’s Arlington National Cemetery mishap was being marked as spam on the platform.

When users clicked on the article link, they received an alert reading: “Warning: this link may be unsafe,” followed by the URL to the webpage. This type of warning is typically displayed when the URL leads the user to spam or another kind of malicious link, not a factual news report.
...
ecently, X has come under fire for limiting access to several political accounts such as KamalaHQ, the official rapid response page for Harris’s campaign, the Uncommitted movement, and the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

This also is not the first feud between Elon Musk and NPR. In 2023, Musk labeled the new organization “state-affiliated media,” a label usually reserved for true propaganda outlets in countries like Russia and China. In response, the outlet formally left the platform.
...

Federal law: "prohibits political campaign or election-related activities" at the Arlington cemetery, including photography.

"an enemy of my enemy" can still suck. Epoch Times exists worldwide, including maintaining a small New Zealand office. You might have seen advertising a Chinese dance show, Shen Yun Theatrical Show.

An article from June

New Yorker Magazine: The Scam at the Heart of the Mysterious Epoch Times

Five years ago, a niche newspaper called The Epoch Times made a big bet on Donald Trump. The outlet, associated with the [US tax exempt religious organization] exiled Chinese spiritual movement Falun Gong, never gained too many readers by handing out its free broadside condemning the policies of the Chinese Communist Party.

But when Trump came into office, its editors found a hitmaker: pro-Trump stories and conspiracist clickbait. In 2019, as his reelection campaign warmed up, The Epoch Times increased its efforts to cover Trump favorably. It also extended its ad budget, spending more on pro-Trump advertising on Facebook than any group except the campaign itself.
...
The paper was eventually banned from Facebook for trying to obscure its pro-Trump ad buys, but the bet paid off.
...
Tax records showed the expansion strategy was successful. The Epoch Times Association, the nonprofit behind the paper, pulled in $70 million in revenue in 2020 — tens of millions more than in the nine previous years combined. When banks asked about the surge in money coming in, the chief financial officer, Weidong “Bill” Guan, said the influx came from an increase in “online donations.”
...
In June, the US Justice Department suggested the growth in 2020 had been fueled by another source of revenue: Federal prosecutors in Manhattan charged Guan with bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering for allegedly running a yearslong scheme to launder at least $67 million in illegally acquired cryptocurrency through the company.

An interesting viewpoint (under part 1) that looks at the above - yet another horrific thing the orange buffoon did:

Look at photos of Trump with his normie fans and you often see the difference between his expression and the expression of people who are imitating him with utter sincerity because they’re not in on the joke.

Those are some of the saddest pictures.

If they printed them on more absorbent paper I'm sure more copies would get taken away.

When Trump faces consequences, such investigations or lawsuits, he often blames political opponents or the media.

Trump: “I wasn’t doing it for publicity. I get a lot of publicity, I would like to get a lot less publicity. I’m the only guy that would hire a public relations agency to get less publicity.”

Without proof, Trump also claimed the accusation that he was using the graves for public relations was “put out by the White House,” calling it a “disgrace” as he accused President Biden of being to blame for the service members’ deaths over his handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Sad pics alright. But if I was standing over Trump's headstone I think I might feel that a thumbs-up was appropriate.

Variety: Jack White Threatens to Sue Trump Campaign Over Use of ‘Seven Nation Army’: ‘Don’t Even Think About Using My Music You Fascists’

Jack White is joining the growing list of angry musicians threatening to sue the Trump campaign over the use of their music in his promotional posts.

On Thursday, White uploaded a screen recording of Donald J. Trump‘s Deputy Director of Communications Margo Martin’s X account where she posted a now-deleted video of the Republican nominee walking to the White Stripes‘ “Seven Nation Army.” White said there was a lawsuit coming from his lawyers, “to add to your five thousand others,” he noted.

“Don’t even think about using my music you fascists,” wrote White in the caption of his post on Instagram. “Have a great day at work today Margo Martin.” He added, “a double f__k you DonOLD for insulting our nation’s veterans at Arlington you scum. You should lose every military family’s vote immediately from that if anything makes sense anymore.”

Can't believe he somehow keeps thinking he can claim "presidential immunity" when he wasn't the president when this happened???
