Newsweek - Mary Trump Explains Why People Should 'Be Shocked' by Donald Trump

31 Aug 2024

Former President Donald Trump's estranged niece, Mary Trump, explained on Friday why people should "be shocked" by her uncle after his staff was reportedly in an altercation at Arlington National Cemetery earlier this week. ...

Mary Trump, who has been a fierce critic of her uncle, questioned why the Army wouldn't press charges itself, writing in her Substack blog on Friday:

"Why is the convicted felon allowed to commit more crimes with impunity? ...

"Let's be shocked that the former Commander-in Chief is such a despicable narcissist that every interaction he has with service members is simply a means simultaneously to steal their honor while denigrating them. ...

"Donald is a foppish, chubby overlord who relies on the unquestioning thuggery of the conscienceless jackals who comprise his inner circle and staff who exist to make him look tough.

"For him, 'toughness' means being an unrepentant ***hole; people in his orbit simply follow his lead."

Now that's what I call a character reference !  ☺️

a la past January 6th insurrection and future November 2024 election.

Vanity Fair: Calls journalists “enemy of the people” during Pennsylvania rally minutes before man storms into media section
...
As the incident was unfolding near the media section, Trump was again critiquing how the press is covering the 2024 election.

The former president appears to begin watching the interaction and says, “beautiful,” before repeatedly noting, “he’s on our side.”
...
At the beginning of the situation, he smiled and said [to a [Republican candidate], “We get a little itchy, David, don’t we?”

An NBC news reporter asked Trump if the imagery from Arlington should have been put out

Trump: "Well, we have a lot of people. You know we have people, Tik Tok people. You know we're leading the internet that was the other thing. We're so far above her on the internet."

Reporter pressed and asked again if the imagery should have been put out

Trump: "I don't know know what the rules and regulations are. I don't know who did it and it could have been them.

It could have been the [dead soldier's] parents. It could have been somebody."

Reporter: "It was your campaign's Tik Tok though that put out the video."

Trump: "I really don't know anything about it all. I do is I stood there and I said if you'd like to have a picture we can have a picture.

"This was a setup by the people in the administration"

Im getting the gut feel, from listening to pollsters, focus groups etc, the curve for putting up with Trumps insanity and pure lack of humanity (ie saying sorry and taking ownership), that curve is heading down now and people are just calling BS on him and his antics as a failed human being. Including two time Trump voters.

These legal problems, or Harris trolling him, could send unhinged beyond frothing at the mouth, he may end up in another type of confined space. ;-p

Typical, when backed into a corner we hear the "I don't know anything about it/them" or "I didn't organise it" 🙄

Also - even though it's mostly public knowledge, a biographical film of Trump's earlier years is set to be released just before the election, despite his lawyers fighting like hell to try and get it stopped (why?):

https://newrepublic.com/post/185499/donald-trump-totally-jumped-shark

The writer of this piece makes quite a few good points - the most pertinent one is that the orange buffoon has jumped the shark, and his act is old and tired now, especially after 9 seasons:

But again, for now, let’s just judge him as an act. His act is way tired. It’s now nine years of “Fake news” and “You won’t have a country anymore” and all the rest. In 2015, all those Trumpisms were stupid and disgusting; but at least they were new. I actually laughed when he described Jeb Bush as a “low-energy person.” He was! I could imagine then how, for voters who didn’t hate him, he was interesting and possibly amusing as a species that American politics rarely produces: someone who threw the script in the air and said whatever the hell popped into his mind.

Reason: Trump Doubled Down on Authoritarianism by Selecting J.D. Vance

In September 2021, Hillbilly Elegy author J.D. Vance—then still a long shot candidate for the Republican Senate nomination in Ohio—made an appearance on Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight. In a crisp white button-down and navy blazer, no tie, he laid out a proposal to use the powers of the federal government to punish private universities and nonprofits for promoting "radical left-wing ideology."

"Why are we allowing the companies that are destroying this country to receive tax preferences?" he asked. "Why don't we seize the assets of the Ford Foundation, tax their assets, and give it to the people who've had their lives destroyed by their radical open-borders agenda?"

The questions were part of Vance's effort to endear himself to former President Donald Trump in the only way that seemed available to him at the time: by launching a culture-war offensive against progressives, rule of law be damned. His bet paid off this summer when Trump chose Vance—now a first-term senator from Ohio—as his vice presidential running mate.
...
Like any good authoritarian, Vance has also fostered enmity toward disfavored subsets of the population—in his case, leftists and members of the coastal elite. In 2021, he told The American Conservative that his supporters "hate the right people."

Once Trump loses in November Vance is going to disappear into the same black hole that consumed Sarah Palin.

In the United States, a Gold Star Family refers to the immediate relatives of members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have lost their lives in service to the country.

The Daily Caller is known for its right-leaning political stance. It was founded in 2010 by Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel.

Note this article slides past the thorny problem that Trump's actions in Arlington Cemetery broke several federal laws in the special "section 60", recently dead soldiers.
  • creating campaign material
  • and use of cameras
  • the federal law applies equally to everyone always, even the family, ex-president, and the speaker of the house
Trump's campaign team were told it was illegal before getting Mike Johnson involved. If somehow Trump didn't know it before arriving, the army sergeant told him, before a physical confrontation. Predictably Trump released a campaign ad with the footage the next day.

The Daily Caller: Exclusive: Gold Star Families Had Trouble Getting Trump Into Arlington Until House Speaker Intervened

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson had to intervene to get former President Donald Trump into Arlington National Cemetery for the third anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal with Gold Star families, a family told the Daily Caller.
