The current Minister of Police Mark Mitchell has agreed to implement all the IPCA recommendations. Other than that, Mitchell and the current Police Commissioner Richard Chambers seem determined to forget about the whole thing as soon as possible.

Coster claims to have briefed Mitchell (and Hipkins) informally. I believe him. The extent of that briefing seems to have been one or two sentences with Coster raising no concerns. Mitchell claims to have been unaware of the many emails sent to his ministerial address.

There is one word conspicuously absent from the IPCA report - "women" - and absent from any IPCA recommendations in this case. That is an utter failure that only the Minister and the Commissioner can now address. The report does quote the phrase "a woman scorned". Dictionaries define "scorned" as contempt, disdain, disrespect, rejected as unworthy or stupid. That is exactly the result.

This poll indicates that Luxon and co would win if the election were held today. I guess he can afford to turn down interviews at the moment then 🤷‍♂️

They wouldn't hold on, it'd be a comfortable win. If TPM loses some of it's seats I think it would be even worse for the left as the overhang would go away

Meh for Luxon and Hipkins. It's an expected disaster for TPM and a very bad result for the Greens. Dropping more than 35% in support could be a rogue poll or it could be a very bad sign.

I don't care about left, right and centre it is all stupid tribalism. I do care about what is best for Aotearoa, my whanau and especially my mokopuna. Right now there is not much in parliament that gives me comfort for the future. The skill base, integrity and professionalism is tragically poor. The opinion polls are simply dividing the pennies between the lowest common denominator and attached flotsam.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Shane Jones is so, so close to getting it, except he literally cannot because his donations depend upon him not getting it.

The Oceans and Fisheries Minister has raised concerns about fish "heading to Te Waipounamu" due to warming waters.

"In my lifetime, we're seeing the drift into the South Island of fisheries resources that have been historically located in the North Island," Shane Jones said.

I assume he finished off with "and so we desperately need more of my donors' oil and gas so that it is cheaper for my fishing donors to chase the fish further and further south" but the story doesn't say one way or the other.

TPM is TPM, after the implosion its not hard to see why, be interesting to see how many maori seats labour can swing. I think the drop in the greens is probably the left cannabilisation with most just moving to Labour. The Left/Right split hasn't actually changed much over the last year.

Indeed. If the Greens appeal is regrettably narrow, TPM's is razor thin. ACT isn't going to be picking up any Maori seats just because TPM are having a bad month, put it that way.

Seymour may be serving slop to the kids, but it seems that the slop was not the problem this time.

After reviewing all possible causes, investigators determined that the most likely explanation was a mix-up between lunches intended for the previous week and those meant for that day.

It is believed that meals from the prior week were inadvertently stored in Cambro containers, which were later made available to students in the cafeteria.

I believe that makes the score: Seymour 1, Schools 8297.

Is this a new update? Because when they came up with that last week the school's principal disputed it.

[Edit: I see there's a new update on this]

The principal has her own agenda in this. She’s been in the media about lunches a number of times as well as having an interesting employment history.

Handle9: as well as having an interesting employment history.

That part sentence implies some kind of black mark. I can see in 2017 she won a court action for unfair dismissal after unfounded allegations of some kind:

Is that what you are referring to?

The audit office has questioned an $18k spend on a staff development exercise:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/principal-defends-queenstown-trip-after-auditor-general-issues-warning-over-school-travel-bills/MX723KDUCVCUHPKYVXKAIRSIKE/

https://oag.parliament.nz/2025/school-audits-2024/appendix2.htm

There is no indication that is an employment matter at this time. The audit office has questions about it. Apparently the school and principal have issued a statement. I could not find it. It might be on Facebook.

Luxon's government seems constantly under attack from the right. Former finance minister Ruth Richardson has been involved in a Taxpayers Union campaign against Nicola Willis. The Taxpayers Union wants radical spending cuts:

Willis told Richardson to come out and challenged Richardson to a debate. Richardson today accepted the challenge:
