In 2009, when US Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency landing on the Hudson River, the entire event, from bird strike to landing, took just a few minutes, and everyone survived.

The federal court rejection to Trump was also very quick, but Trump's chance to escape justice has finally drowned

I can't wait for sentencing. I guessing death-threats to the judges' daughter won't make it better.

The Guardian: Federal judge rejects Trump’s request to intervene in hush-money criminal case

A federal judge on Tuesday rejected Donald Trump’s request to intervene in his New York hush-money criminal case, thwarting the former president’s latest bid to overturn his felony conviction and delay his sentencing.

US district judge Alvin Hellerstein ruled that Trump had not satisfied the burden of proof required for a federal court to take control of the case from the state court where it was tried.

Hellerstein’s ruling came hours after Manhattan prosecutors raised objections to Trump’s effort to delay post-trial decisions in the case while he sought to have the federal court step in.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office argued in a letter to the judge presiding over the case in state court that he had no legal obligation to hold off on post-trial decisions and wait for Hellerstein to rule.

Prosecutors urged the trial judge, Juan M Merchan, not to delay his rulings on two key defense requests: Trump’s call to delay sentencing until after the November election, and his bid to overturn the verdict and dismiss the case in the wake of the US supreme court’s presidential immunity ruling.

Merchan has said he will rule 16 September on Trump’s motion to overturn the verdict. His decision on delaying sentencing has been expected in the coming days.

Three Trump snippets this week

"You know, I do the weave. You know what the weave is? I'll talk about like nine different things, and they all come back brilliantly together. And it's like -- And friends of mine that are, like, English professors, they say, 'It's the most brilliant thing I've ever seen.' But the fake news, you know what they say? 'He rambled.' That's not rambling. When you have -- What you do is you get off a subject to mention another little tidbit. Then you get back onto the subject, and you go through this, and you do it for two hours and you don't even mispronounce one word."

"The transgender thing is incredible. Think of it. Your kid goes to school and comes home a few days later with an operation. The school decides what's going to happen with your child. And, you know, many of these childs [sic], 15 years later, say, 'What the hell happened? Who did this to me?'"

"You take a look at bacon and some of these products, and some people don't eat bacon anymore. And we are going to get the energy prices down. When we get energy down -- You know, this was caused by their horrible energy -- Wind. They want wind all over the place. But when it doesn't blow, we have a little problem."

You can't argue with logic like that.   🤪

What strikes me about all this is how defensive he is. Clearly he hears (or is told) the things being said about him and he feels constantly compelled to explain them away, except he does it very poorly. Someone who feels confident in their skin has no need of this kind of thing. Trump is disintegrating but will it happen in time to save the rest of us?

Funny thing is, he thinks telling endless lies is still a winning formula for him, and (mostly to the MAGA crowd), it is:

But I wonder if they will eventually tire of being lied to, constantly?

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has faced legal scrutiny over his business dealings and personal conduct. A special counsel was appointed to investigate these matters

I guess special councils are only illegal if it's used against Trump.

NPR: Legal experts want Judge Cannon removed from Trump's Mar-a-Lago documents case

A retired federal judge is among those asking an appeals court to reassign former President Trump’s indictment on charges of mishandling classified documents case to a new judge.

Special counsel Jack Smith has appealed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon's decision when she dismissed the case last month against former President Donald Trump for mishandling classified and top-secret documents at his Florida home in Mar-a-Lago.

In documents filed with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, two groups of legal experts and former government officials say U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon should be removed from the case.

Former federal judge Nancy Gertner and two legal scholars, Stephen Gillers and James Sample say rulings by Judge Cannon and her numerous delays have raised “well-founded concerns that she may be biased against the Government’s case and unable to manage that case impartially.” They’re seeking permission to file an amicus brief.

In July, Judge Cannon dismissed Trump’s indictment on charges he illegally withheld and concealed classified and top-secret documents from federal investigators. In a decision that ran counter to decades of judicial rulings, including by the U.S. Supreme Court, Cannon said the statute under which special counsel Jack Smith was appointed violated the Constitution. Smith is appealing the dismissal.

All the bad publicity; none of the money.

Bonus: Trump looks weak to everyone, including right-wing.

As I noted earlier, no celebrity would appear. His only cohost of note was Rudy "don't take my World Series baseball rings" Giuliani. Not even Kid Rock would touch this one.

New York Times: Fund-Raiser for Jan. 6 Rioters at Trump’s Golf Club Is Postponed

A gala event to raise money for some of the rioters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, set to take place on Thursday at former President Donald J. Trump’s golf club in New Jersey, has been postponed, according to the event website.

While Mr. Trump had not been planning to attend the soiree — billed as the J6 Awards Gala — the event attracted attention for the way it reinforced the strong connections he has maintained with those who stormed the Capitol on his behalf at an awkward moment: just as his campaign to return to the White House enters its final stages.
...
Gala attendees were asked to shell out $2,500 for a single ticket (or $50,000 for a “platinum table” of 12) for the chance to mingle with the families of indicted rioters and to win a custom plaque commemorating
...
The featured guests were expected to include top former Trump aides like Rudolph W. Giuliani, who is under indictment in both Phoenix and Atlanta on charges of trying to help Mr. Trump overturn the 2020 election, and Peter Navarro, a onetime White House trade adviser who recently completed a four-month stint in prison for ignoring a subpoena from the House committee that investigated Jan. 6.
...
Even though the future of the event is now in doubt, it was in keeping with Mr. Trump’s persistent efforts to rewrite the history of Jan. 6.

He has often appeared with Jan. 6 defendants at private events at some of his properties and has repeatedly described them as “hostages” and “political prisoners.” Mr. Trump has also promised several times to pardon those charged in connection with the Capitol attack, including those who assaulted police officers.

The most incredible thing is how justice seems to be completely incapable of getting this corrupt and despicable person behind bars.

A person that doesn't hide the sentiment that if he could he would shred their constitution so that he could just suck the teats of the nation.

Re the J6 celebration/rort, can he go any lower?

No need to answer that as we all know there is no lower limit he can't beat.

More Trump Trivia:

The NY Times - Trump Ordered to Stop Using Isaac Hayes Song at Rallies

03 Sep 2024

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign to stop using the song “Hold On, I’m Coming,” by Isaac Hayes, at campaign events in response to a lawsuit from the artist’s estate. ...

Mr. Trump regularly used the song as his exit music for much of the past year, including at the Republican National Convention in July and as recently as a rally in Bozeman, Mont., on Aug. 9.

He has since returned to using the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.,” which he used to close out his rallies during his 2020 campaign. (The Village People have also previously objected to Mr. Trump’s use of their music.)

Many other artists have objected to Mr. Trump’s use of their music, including at least three over the past month.

I guess Trump and MAGA are so far out of the mainstream that they don't realize it's a gay anthem.

(Village People founder Victor Willis was a founding member and dressed like a police officer. He cowrote YMCA and says it wasn’t meant to be a gay song, though admits it's now a gay anthem)

Is Trump a communist hero? Because he's doing more to defund and jail right wingers than Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez combined.

CNN : Trump can soon tap his $2 billion Truth Social fortune. But it won’t be easy

For months, former President Donald Trump has been sitting on a social media fortune that he couldn’t touch. That will change very soon.

The lock-up period prohibiting Trump from selling or even borrowing against his $2.3 billion stake in Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) is scheduled to expire by September 25, according to filings.

In theory, this will give Trump access to a pot of money that he could use to pay sky-high legal fees or even fund his presidential campaign. In reality, Trump faces huge obstacles that would make it very challenging to sell a large chunk of Trump Media – unless he doesn’t mind crashing the stock.

“It would be all but impossible for Trump to liquidate his whole stake or even a third of it without completely tanking the stock price,” Michael Ohlrogge, [a specialist].

And the share price is already tanking.
