Chutkin sounds like has had enough. Trumps lawyers got a big old telling off.

Sept 26 Jack Smith to file, Chutkin no consideration of the timing of the election or what Cannon used from Thomas re Special Counsels. :-)

Martin Luther King Jr. in his “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” where he wrote, "Justice too long delayed is justice denied."

He was arrested 29 times in 10 years.

His longest appeal took about 8 months.

Trump's hush money case has already been running for 40 months.

The Guardian: Judge delays sentencing in Trump hush-money case until after US election

Describing conditions as “fraught with complexities”, a New York judge on Friday delayed Donald Trump’s sentencing on charges stemming from hush money paid to an adult film star until 26 November.

Trump, the Republican nominee for president, had asked Justice Juan Merchan to push back his sentencing date until after the US election. Trump had previously been scheduled to be sentenced on 18 September, less than two months before election day.

Trump’s lawyers in August argued there would not be enough time before the sentencing for the defense to potentially appeal Merchan’s forthcoming ruling on Trump’s request to overturn the conviction due to the US supreme court’s landmark decision on presidential immunity.

While Merchan noted that Trump’s attorneys had “repeat[ed] a litany of perceived and unsubstantiated grievances from previous filings that do not merit this Court’s attention”, Merchan’s response acknowledged that the combination of an upcoming presidential election and the supreme court’s ruling had “render[ed] the requirements of a sentencing hearing, should one be necessary, difficult to execute”.

AlterNet - 'Above the law': Merchan sentencing delay proves Trump making 'mockery' of justice system

06 Sep 2024

Justice Merchan has decided to delay Trump's sentencing once again - this time, to November 26, which will be three weeks after the 2024 presidential election.

Some scathing reactions to this:

Journalist Bill Shea argued, "You or me, the judicial system would crush or murder without a moment's hesitation. Trump, a convicted felon and rapist and open fascist, gets kid gloves that only the powerful get, no matter how obviously guilty and vicious and stupid they are."

MeidasTouch's Fred Wellman tweeted, "Jesus f*****g Christ this guy will never face justice. Crime after crime and they just let him slide over and over. They indicted and convicted Menendez in New Jersey in under a year. This mother f****r has been sliding for four years."

Podcast host Adam McGinnis wrote, "The Judicial system is a mockery, hammers everyone but the worst corrupt guy.

Attorney Pam Keith tweeted, "Horrendous decision by Judge Merchan. I can’t help but wonder if the constant threats to his family made up his mind."

In Merchan's defence, if Trump is elected, his sentence would be undone anyway.  If Trump loses the election, he can be sentenced promptly.

Long read making the argument for why Trump's sentencing should have gone ahead.

Trump’s argument for a sentencing delay boiled down to two points — both dubious. First, he plans to appeal on various grounds, including the argument that the conviction should be thrown out as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling in July creating a zone of presidential immunity for criminal conduct related to so-called “official acts.” Second, Trump’s lawyers claimed that the only reasons to move forward with the sentencing as planned were “naked election-interference objectives.”

In fact, Trump was convicted over three months ago, which is a perfectly normal amount of time to pass before sentencing in a criminal case after a conviction. And appeals do not delay sentencings in the ordinary course, even if the defendant strongly believes that he is likely to prevail.

Oho. A Fox news hosts dares her colleagues to explain Trump's word salad (above) on childcare and try and make sense of it. Good luck with that 😀

I hope the orange buffoon blows the debate too! I hope Harris traps him and he just walks right into it.

Of course the MAGA base will lap it up...everyone else? Not so much. Hopefully it's not like his first debate against Biden in 2020, that was shocking.

Trump, in an interview on a New Hampshire radio program this past week, boasted that he has “been preparing all my life for this debate.”

I guess we'll find out this week, eh?

One of the very few truthful Trump statements. However, unless he comes wired for prompts from his cronies, his preparations won't be adequate to cope with this debater.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/07/trump-25th-amendment-kamala-harris-biden-00177868

Donald Trump on Saturday floated changing the 25th Amendment to allow Congress to impeach a vice president for covering up a president’s incapacity less than two months after President Joe Biden exited the 2024 contest amid concerns about his age and acuity.

The former president has repeatedly, and without evidence, accused Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrats more broadly of covering up the state of Biden’s health — particularly his mental fitness — after the president’s disastrous June debate performance that ultimately led to his exit from the race. Some Republicans in Congress had called for invoking the 25th Amendment, which provides a process to take power away from a sitting president, to remove Biden after the debate — the same rule Democrats attempted to wield against Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. But changing a Constitutional amendment, as Trump is now suggesting, is highly unlikely to actually occur.

What the hell. There is no way in a million years he would get both the Senate and the House 100% on his side (or even enough) to back him to any degree for a change like this to occur. As usual, he's just pandering to the base 🙄

Trump’s remarks on Saturday are also the latest sign of his continued struggle to adjust to running against a new opponent. Trump has repeatedly lamented the change at the top of the Democratic ticket, and has at times even appeared to confuse who he is competing against.

Long may he continue to struggle! 😀

And an amendment needs to be ratified by a majority of states.

Good luck with that.

Perfectly happy for him to pour all his what-passes-for attention into that rather than anything else.
