The Washington Post - Trump plans to fire Jack Smith’s team, use DOJ to probe 2020 election

22 Nov 2024

President-elect Donald Trump plans to fire the entire team that worked with special counsel Jack Smith to pursue two federal prosecutions against the former president, including career attorneys typically protected from political retribution, according to two individuals close to Trump’s transition.

Trump is also planning to assemble investigative teams within the Justice Department to hunt for evidence in battleground states that fraud tainted the 2020 election.

The proposals offer new evidence that Trump’s intention to dramatically shake up the status quo in Washington is likely to focus heavily on the Justice Department, the nation’s premier law enforcement agency, and that at least some of his agenda is fueled not by ideology or policy goals but personal grievance.

Project 2025 has been launched ...   😟

Deportation plans are heating up. Texas saying they want to help Trump deport violent criminals:

Associated Press: Texas is offering a parcel of rural ranchland along the U.S.-Mexico border to use as a staging area for potential mass deportations under President-elect Donald Trump. The property has no paved roads and sits in a county with one public hospital and limited local resources. But Buckingham stressed its location. “We feel like this is actually very well-located. The land is very flat there. It’s adjacent to major airports. It’s also adjacent to a bridge over the river,” Buckingham said. “So if it’s helpful, then I would love to partner up with the federal government. And if it’s not, then we’ll continue to look to ways to be helpful to them.”

Proportionally far more USA citizens commit violent crime compared to people illegally in the USA working and keeping their heads down. Mass deportation is going to run out of violent criminals very quickly. Everyone knows they will be targeting everyone including undocumented people with a clean record and paying taxes for 50 years.

CNN takes a look at the economic impact of Trump's promised mass deportation of millions of productive workers:

CNN: Mass deportations of undocumented immigrants would likely slash farm labor in half, which could result in massive food waste and create risk for the nation’s food security, said Ron Estrada, chief executive officer at advocacy organization Farmworker Justice. “They’re the front lines of our US food system,” Estrada said. And many of them have been working the fields for years, he said, adding that an estimated 85% of foreign-born farmworkers came to the US more than 10 years ago. Business owners, industry members and economists alike warn that large-scale deportations of undocumented immigrants, along with stricter border measures and the revoking of Biden-era protections, could have a seismic impact on the labor market and US economy. Critical industries such as agriculture, leisure and hospitality, construction and health care could take some of the largest hits.

Everyone involved knows 100% USA needs a sensible permit and citizenship pathway for those lower wage industries and everyone knows after the deportations it will be inevitable if they want to an economy. Why not create that pathway now and process applications?

This piece takes a look at the possibility of Trump running in 2028. Before you say "don't be crazy", don't be so sure. He did win again, after all:

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/donald-trump-run-again-2028-third-term-vance

Trump might want to run for president again at the top of the ticket. He might bristle at playing second fiddle to anyone, even briefly. But if Vladimir Putin could pretend to play second fiddle to Dmitry Medvedev for four years as prime minister (while remaining in de facto control), surely Trump could bear the indignity of having his name appear below JD Vance’s on the 2028 ballot—provided everyone knows that Trump remains in charge.

(All of this assumes the orange buffoon even lives that long - he would be 82 by then, and Christ alone knows his health is shocking).

He still has a Florida house, with a refrigerator.

So what are the odds Rudy has a frozen hooker's head in his New York fridge? :)

Rudy Giuliani Now Reduced to Fighting to Keep His Refrigerator as He Battles Defamation Judgment and His Former Lawyers: The Mediaite

Rudy Giuliani has fallen a long way since the days he was regaled as “America’s Mayor” — as CNN reported Monday he’s now reduced to fighting to keep his refrigerator amid multiple lawsuits seeking to claim his assets.

Giuliani’s support for President-elect Donald Trump’s baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 election have cost him dearly. Besides losing his license to practice law in New York and the District of Columbia and being named a co-defendant along with Trump in the Georgia election interference case, Giuliani is also facing a nearly $150 million judgment plus attorneys’ fees and fines for refusal to comply with discovery in a defamation case against two former Georgia election workers, Wandrea “Shaye” Moss and Ruby Freeman. His former lawyers have sued him for almost $1.4 million in unpaid legal fees. Oh, and Moss and Freeman filed another lawsuit against him for his “repetitive false speech and harassment” targeting them during and after the trial in the first case.

The deadline had passed on Friday for him to turn over property including about two dozen luxury watches and a 1980 Mercedes Benz that was once owned by movie star Lauren Bacall.

Giuliani’s lawyer said he did turn those items over, said Scannell, and he was now “in the process of turning over his Manhattan penthouse apartment, valued at around $6 million, to these women, but he says now that he wants the refrigerator that is in it.”

Now Trump's gotten back in, what's the chances he'll pardon his one-time BFF/lawyer, along with the rest of the clown lawyers (eg, Eastman, Clark, etc) and any other dropkicks (Bannon, etc) who were trying to help him overturn the 2020 election result?

Can he issue a pardon at any time, or only at the end of his term?

As mentioned Trump can only pardon federal criminal cases. Rudy Giuliani, Alex Jones, Mike Lindell can't have their state civil cases pardoned (civil=money, not jail).

Trump could have pardoned past Steve Bannon's contempt of congress criminal charge (hee hee)

But Trump can't pardon Bannon's "We Build the Wall" fundraising campaign. He has been charged with money laundering, conspiracy, and defrauding donors who contributed to the campaign, which aimed to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The case is being prosecuted in the State of New York.

Then President Bill Clinton civil case before the Supreme Court set the precedent. Clinton's sexual harassment lawsuit was filed by Paula Jones, a former Arkansas state employee, while Bill was Governor of Arkansas. Trump can't pardon his own civil case, but as president they are postponed till he's no longer president.

...but...

Aldous Huxley, Brave New World: "A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude."

George Orwell: "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever."

Walmart just leveled with Americans: China won’t be paying for Trump’s tariffs, in all likelihood you will: Fortune
...
Trump labels tariffs a ‘tax on foreign countries’ with no downside

In came the Trump campaign, which repeatedly portrayed tariffs as a panacea. They would fill the nation’s coffers, reduce the deficit, bring back manufacturing jobs—and might even eliminate the need for income taxes. And the costs? Well, those would be borne by others—chiefly U.S. strategic rival China, which could face duties as high as 60% on goods it exported.

“A tariff is a tax on a foreign country, that’s the way it is whether you like it or not,” Trump promised supporters at an August rally in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania. “It’s a tax on a country that’s ripping us off and stealing our jobs.”

The National Retail Federation, however, begged to disagree. Unless exporters are both willing and able to drop their factory gate prices in order to maintain volumes, the costs will entirely be borne by Americans—either directly in the form of import duties, indirectly through higher prices passed on to the customer, or some mix thereof.

“A tariff is a tax paid by the U.S. importer, not a foreign country or the exporter,” NRF vice president Jonathan Gold said in a statement published one day prior to the November elections.
...
Walmart finance boss Rainey said the massive retailer would do its utmost to cushion the blow—but pain was inevitable.

“We’re going to work with our suppliers as well as our own private brand assortment to continue to try to bring down prices for customers,” he told Fox News. “But we’re not immune, and tariffs will be inflationary for US customers.”

Trump’s education pick Linda McMahon accused of negligence in WWE child sexual abuse lawsuit: The Hill

President-elect Trump’s pick for Education secretary, Linda McMahon, is at a center of the lawsuit regarding child sexual abuse while she was in charge of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The lawsuit, which was filed last month, accuses McMahon and her husband, Vince McMahon, of knowing about a ringside announcer who allegedly abused young boys for years but doing nothing about it.

The plaintiffs, who were not named, said announcer Mel Phillips, who died in 2012, sexually assaulted them when they were “ring boys” back in the 1980s. Ring boys were young boys who ran errands and helped set up venues for fights.

McMahon, who led Trump’s transition team and has been nominated by the president-elect to lead the Education Department, is accused of failing to act after learning about the sexual abuse.

The NY Times -  Trump Is Running His Transition Team on Secret Money

24 Nov 2024

President-elect Donald J. Trump is keeping secret the names of the donors who are funding his transition effort, a break from tradition that could make it impossible to see what interest groups, businesses or wealthy people are helping launch his second term.

Mr. Trump has so far declined to sign an agreement with the Biden administration that imposes strict limits on that fund-raising in exchange for up to $7.2 million in federal funds earmarked for the transition.

By dodging the agreement, Mr. Trump can raise unlimited amounts of money from unknown donors to pay for the staff, travel and office space involved in preparing to take over the government.

Mr. Trump is the first president-elect to sidestep the restrictions, provoking alarm among ethics experts.

Those seeking to curry favor with the incoming administration now have the opportunity to donate directly to the winning candidate without their names or potential conflicts ever entering the public sphere.

And unlike with campaign contributions, foreign nationals are allowed to donate to the transition.

Rotten to the core  🙁

Donald Trump’s Transition Team Skips Ethics Pledges and FBI Background Checks: Vanity Fair

The president-elect is giving the Biden administration the middle finger by making the changeover as difficult as humanly possible.

In an apparent show of contempt for both the federal bureaucracy and standard protocol, President-elect Donald Trump is defying virtually every norm of presidential transitions, from coordinating with federal agencies to background-checking the candidates for top administration jobs. Trump’s transition team is operating entirely from Mar-a-Lago, the Washington Post reported Tuesday, and has yet to “set foot in a single federal office.” The team also hasn’t worked with the General Services Administration—the logistics hub for the federal government—because Trump has reportedly not turned in a required ethics pledge that explains how he’ll navigate personal conflicts of interest.

The GSA is just one of the agencies Trump has apparently iced out as he readies his second administration: The Post reports that the president-elect has also declined to use the State Department’s secure telephone lines and interpreters, and has eschewed the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s security clearance system.
