https://www.autostraddle.com/trumps-cabinet-picks-ranked-by-the-raw-terror-i-feel-in-my-soul-when-i-look-into-their-eyes/

"Raw terror" is right...some of these people are simply horrible, and the majority are vastly under-qualified for the roles he wants to put them in.

Trump is basically a small businessman. He has one skill, property development (which is also dubious).
This has seen him lie, cheat, short change contractors, bully people, tax cheat, etc etc etc etc all his iife
ANYTHING he has done outside of this he has failed at, Airline, Steaks, Wine, Casino, University, etc etc etc.

ALL he is doing is bringing his small business skills to the presidency, surrounding himself with other power seekers and sycophants.
He believes he is a genius, and thus loyalty is more important than skill...because he knows all and can tell them what to do, but so long he is OK, nothing else matters anyway.
His ego is so fragile it need stroking by others all of the time, he will make extremely bad decisions simply because someone told him he was a "good boy".

He is simply going to threaten, bully, short change, lie, etc etc as president as it is the only behaviour he knows.
He is going to wreck havoc and do a massive amount of damage to world trade and the USA.
And he will be out for revenge, he wants to hurt people who he feels slighted by.
The religious right, by telling him he is the 2nd coming, is pointing that vengeance towards LGBTQ+, racial minorities, women's rights, and it was easy to do because he already has these traits

He loves the idea of these flawed individuals sucking up to him, it makes hime feel safe, that he has something to hold over them to ensure loyalty

The NY Times - Trump to Attend Notre-Dame Cathedral Reopening in Paris

02 Dec 2024

President-elect Donald J. Trump will travel to France on Saturday for the reopening of the historic Notre-Dame Cathedral five years after it was ravaged by a fire, his first foreign trip since last month’s election and a symbol of how quickly global leaders are turning the page on the Biden presidency. ...

President Biden is not expected to attend the reopening, but Dr. Jill Biden, the first lady, will be there ...

EDIT:  He's a convicted felon, so how does he still have a passport?

Oh come on, they just fixed it. It's going to burn down again straight away when Trump walks in and catches fire.

How dare Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau be younger, physically and mentally more attractive than Trump? Of course Trump hates him.

I guess Puerto Rico lost its chance to be the 51st state.

Trump suggests Canada become 51st state during tariff discussion with Trudeau

US to UK: "We don't care that UK public like food safety, animal welfare, and lesser environmental impacts and think the NHS is crucial to British society and that everything should be done to maintain it. It's all socialism and it has got to go."

UK must pick between US economic model or EU’s ‘socialism’, says Trump adviser: The Guardian
...
Speaking to BBC’s Today programme, Trump advisor Moore said: “The UK really has to choose between the Europe economic model of more socialism and the US model, which is more based on a free enterprise system. I think the UK is kind of caught in the middle of these two forms of an economic model. I believe that Britain would be better off moving towards more of the American model of economic freedom.

“If that were the case, I think it would spur the Trump administration’s willingness to the free trade agreement with the UK. I think it would make sense for both Britain and the United States.”

Previous efforts to agree a UK-US trade deal have been scuppered by rows over agricultural standards, particularly fears over allowing chlorinated chicken or hormone-fed beef on to British supermarket shelves.

Moore said: “I think we have the best agriculture centres in the world. So I wouldn’t see that as a problem from this side of the ocean, but I do understand that in Britain. I know the last time I was in London, that was a big issue with many of the British folks I talked to.”

Trump has proposed a blanket tariff of at least 10% on all imports, as well as further retaliatory tariffs against countries that place tariffs on US imports. Moore said the blanket tariff was a “fairly popular position with many American voters” but suggested some countries might be exempt.

In my humble opinion, if Trump does put in place a 10% world wide tariff, New Zealand would be slightly injured but OK. Likely China and others would be looking to dump some of their inventory, such as Chinese made EV's.

You may have heard already intelligent Americans worry that it could raise fuel prices. Americans traditionally get bent out of shape over a 1% rise in petrol prices. Expect "Hang Trump" and nooses to appear at a 10% increase.

Here's a video from before the shadow of the Trump tempest brewing on the horizon swallows the fragile light of yesterday.

Freedom from free public healthcare would be top of the list. Actually looking at UK prescription charges it looks like they are going in that direction to an extent.

More for the politics thread than the TIL one even though it's a TIL: JD Vance's "childless cat ladies" may have been more of a dog-whistle than most people realise.  The "childless" was kind of obvious, women should submit to their husbands and produce as many (white) babies as possible (there's even an name for it, quiverfull), so calling someone childless means she's defective as a woman.  However "cat ladies" also doesn't mean what you think to the far right, it's not a spinster who collects (rescues) cats but women who want to rescue illegal immigrants, Africans, Muslims, Mexicans, and in general all manner of horrible people who aren't white and Christian.  There's various posts on this, e.g. this now-deleted barely-coherent one but they're all pretty deranged and not worth reading.

Not sure if JD Vance meant it as a general insult or in the white-supremacist sense.

Regarding, Vance’s criticism of prominent Democrats as “childless cat ladies” no president in the history of the United States has ever been a mother

America's founding president, George Washington, didn’t have biological kids (he also raised two stepchildren).

There was definitely malice in JD Vance's statement, but it may be Hanlon's Razor

If Trump had said it I'd say "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Where Hanlon's Razor break down for Trump it's often ignorance and incompetence and deliberate ill intent.
