A couple of quick laughs - this is from 2019, but the caption was something along the lines of "is Melania planning a move to Canada?" 😀

And to wit - while the orange buffoon may bang on about making Canada the "51st state", it ironically would not actually help him politically, as Republicans would have to pick up more states to win:

The NY Times - Trump Is Sentenced in N.Y. Criminal Case and Will Avoid Jail

breaking

The president-elect received an unconditional discharge of his sentence, which formalizes his status as a felon and makes him the first to carry that distinction into the White House. He had fought to avoid the proceeding at every turn.

After months of delay, President-elect Donald J. Trump’s New York criminal case culminated on Friday with the nation’s former and future president avoiding jail, but becoming a felon.

Never before has this court been presented with such a unique and remarkable set of circumstances,” the trial judge, Juan M. Merchan, said at Mr. Trump’s sentencing. “This has been truly an extraordinary case.

He then imposed a so-called unconditional discharge of Mr. Trump’s sentence, a rare and lenient alternative to jail or probation. Explaining the leniency, Justice Merchan acknowledged Mr. Trump’s inauguration 10 days hence.

Just a couple of cartoons for this morning:

Carter tells deceased former presidents know what the hell is going on in the US now:

(I never knew that Lincoln drank coffee!)

Also, this one I mentioned on the last page - as we've seen before, the orange buffoon is the leader when it comes to deflection:

I've seen the light. Annex Canada? What a great idea!

He's trying to deflect from Merrick Garland releasing Jack Smith's report

Jack Smith's report doesn't matter. Full stop. Trump already got away with everything. Jack Smith could release a report complete with 15 camera angles of live video of a naked Trump eating a live baby off the statue of Abraham Lincoln and it won't make any difference now. Trump won.

Somehow, the worst man in the world not only isn't going to pay a cent in penance for his crimes, he is the President of the USA. Even if by some miracle he a) holds another election, b) loses it, and c) hands power over to his opponent, whoever that is won't do a damn thing.

Coffee became the patriotic drink of independence in America after the Boston Tea Party. Later on, coffee was decisive in the Civil War against the southern slave states. Lincoln's blockade stopped the southern slaver armies importing coffee from the slave state of Brazil. The southern slaver armies quickly ran out of coffee. Meantime a few years earlier in Africa, Liberia was the first African republic to declare independence. Lincoln recognized Liberian independence and began importing coffee grown by free people. Each Union soldier was supplied with a guaranteed 36 pounds per year, won the civil war.

The NY Times - When disaster hits, Trump is the blamer in chief

10 Jan 2025

When enormous wildfires began to menace Los Angeles, the incoming president did not use his social media site to pledge support to emergency responders or offer words of compassion to a city where thousands of people have lost everything.

Instead, President-elect Donald Trump used his megaphone to tell the world who was at fault.

It wasn’t the Santa Ana winds, nor was it the rising temperatures that have dried out vegetation and made fires harder to extinguish.

The culprit, he wrote, was “Gavin Newscum.”

The Los Angeles fires have killed at least 11 people, reduced thousands of structures to ash and burned more than 36,000 acres, an area larger than the footprint of San Francisco.

It’s the kind of devastation that, in a bygone era, might have prompted at least a temporary political cease-fire and pledges to work across the aisle to rebuild ...

Instead, with 10 days until Trump’s second inauguration, he offered a reminder of how he has long used disasters to damage political opponents like Gov. Gavin Newsom, Democrat of California - even when they’re still going on. ...

I'm sure he was captured in this precious historical sketch at the very moment he was pouring his mate Thomas Jefferson a coffee - a gesture that would never occur to the wide-mouthed frog. It would also be more than questionable whether he would be able to cope with the concentrated social-intellectual superiority of his predecessors in the long term. 😁

What is the Greenland thing possibly about.

Its a  venal appeal to Trump and Family get via their Russian contacts.
These contacts are broader than many think as there are Oligarch links in Trumps Rich circle,
and the new Techbro circle.

That's what I immediately thought when I saw the Trump machine landing in the public TV news. Such a fuss about fooling people with fake news. Nuuk, Copenhagen, Brussels and the NATO are not amused. 😁

Regarding Greenland, Denmark is a NATO member, and Greenland already has a number of US military bases.

Greenland would have happily added any kind of military facilities, as it's just money in the bank. See article below.

So buying, taking Greenland is not about security, and is about climate change, and pilfering all those resources that are for the moment under the ice, estimated to be over a trillion dollars worth.

And of course, there's the artic ocean resources also.

It's a tactic admission that climate change exists, while the Republican publicly deny climate change exists.

'We didn't know what it was at first.' NASA aircraft uncovers site of secret Cold War nuclear missile tunnels under Greenland ice sheet: Space.com

NASA scientists conducting surveys of arctic ice sheets in Greenland got an unprecedented view of an abandoned "city under the ice" built by the U.S. military during the Cold War.

During a scientific flight in April 2024, a NASA Gulfstream III aircraft flew over the Greenland Ice Sheet carrying radar instruments to map the depth of the ice sheet and the layers of bedrock below it. The images revealed a new view of Camp Century, a Cold War-era U.S. military base consisting of a series of tunnels carved directly into the ice sheet.

As it turns out, this abandoned "secret city" was the site of a secret Cold War project known as Project Iceworm which called for the construction of 2,500 miles (4,023 km) of tunnels that could be used to nuclear intermediate range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) at the Soviet Union.

Trump suddenly has annexation as his top priority.
These are big issues to take by force or force submission.

Yet he mentioned 'NOTHING' about this in the election campaign.

Americans were not given opportunity to vote on this, and it will be the same with many other things.
Trump kept quiet as he knew it would lose voters.
Perhaps more importantly energize a few percent of the 30-40% or so who don't regularly vote to vote.

Elon rolls back his Trillions of dollars savings, maybe we get to 1 Trillion,
maybe its just tricky accounting that just costs more to save little.
Its aspirational.
Easy savings now difficult savings. Who knew ?

Of course a tax department that can't afford to audit the rich is a good thing. :-)
Common folk and small business they will still get theirs.

Though he could alone make a big dent by forgoing subsidies to his companies and Government contracts. He wants more spent on his companies.

Elon's not paying to get to the Moon again ( > $4B so far to SpaceX ).
Elon is not paying to go to Mars. Its that taxpayer he 'says' he wants to save money for.
It will be fat profits to Elon from taxpayers.

Promoting robotic missions well that's not the big ticket in subsidies and profits.

As China looks to send Taiwanese into hell, they can go, just the same as USA, over Greenland, Panama.
Thanks for the 'green light' Mr Trump.
